Thread: What should have been done with Creature Crafting

I can't believe thismess is the new creature "crafting" system. No other crafting class has to put up with the smoke and mirrors we do. No other crafting class has to throw 5 pieces of stuff in a black box and cross their fingers with basically no idea of what's coming out.

This would have been so easy for them to make fun, and perhaps even *gasp* get right! The generic template could have stayed, but it would control only HAM, resists, base CL,and damage. Then, like almost every other class out there or even like our own stims fer pete's sake, we could have added advanced subcomponents, maybe calling them "gene splice modules". Maybe 3 slots would be available and you'd get to pick from an assortment of options.

An armor subcomponent could have required 200 units of flora structural, 100 units of reptile meat, and Rancor DNA. Upon final combine, this module would actuallyadd a - to multiple resists and a +CL modifier, and you could experiment to reduce that - resist back to 0, andexperiment to reduce the +CL modifier slightly. Not stackable.

A special resist subcomponent that required Tattooinian carnivore meat, fruit, and 2 pieces of DNA. During experimentation, you'd use your experiment points to push up 1 or more of the resists, or experiment to lower the "complexity" so that the final CL isn't raised too much.

A vulnerability subcomponent with the primary role of % based CL reduction. Not stackable.

A special attack subcomponent that would take the primary special from the DNA used in its creation. Experimentation would reduce the CL modifier.

Rough concept, sure. But doesn't this fit with the armor crafting, the weapon crafting, the stim crafting, the tailor crafting, even chef crafting alot more than what we're getting? Wouldn't it make sense that Master BE's, the Star Wars equivalent of the Doctors at NIH and Johns Hopkins doing Genome research, would be experts in the field and have a pretty good idea of what to expect? Instead of basically saying "Heck, I don't know what's gonna turn out, even though I been crankin' these puppies out for months. Let's give the old wheel another spin and look see what we get. Big money, big money!"

Most of what you said is very well written. I would just like to say we are here playing this profession because it could be a really fun profession to be in. These people need to stop worrying so much about adding mounts, player cities and vehicles and so forth and fix the **edit** professions so people can enjoy the time they spend in the game. Riding around on a mount is fun and all but being able to use my master be skills the way I should be able too would be quite a bit more fun.

Right well first of all i dunno why someone 5 starred this because it's not only premature to the point of making opinions on second hand information but we haven't even been told how the system is supposed to work in the first place... plus it's not finished either. I've given you a 3 star cause while I share these concerns we honestly cannot say if the cloning system is a mess or not.

Lets hold off until we have actually sat down and used it for a week or two, let people get adusted to how it works instead of ranting on about something you and I know next to nothing about. It's the equivilent of people getting worked up over how complicated the 'horseless carridge' seemed compared to the old horse and cart before they even got a chance to drive one.

This system could either be a very intricate system which requires you to play with and gradually rise up the learning curve or it could be like you said an intricate system which is saddly a complete mess of vagueness and random results. Let's not count our chickens before they have even evolved from lizards yet.

I, for one, do appreciate the complexity of the system for crafting clones.

All the crafting professions are basically the same game experience: find the best resources, keep an eye for rare resources, plop zillion harvesters on the resources, throw them on a schematic and keep the factories running. /yawn

After you hit master, there is very little challenge involved.

With the complexity and nuances of clone crafting (as long as it *works* ) there is tons of challenge involved. And challenge is what keeps me engaged inthis profession

It's rather sad that there are so many people willing to proclaim their ignorance. I apologize for flaming on BE boards, but this is just ridiculous! There are far too many people whining about something that they have neither seen first hand, nor experienced.

There are only a few BE's on here that are actively on TC and if you're not one of them don't bitch and moan about an IMPROVEMENT upon what you're doing now. Are you happy with how poor the created pets are right now? If you are then the problem lies in your complacency with what you know.

Whew, I was beginning to think I was the only one, lol. I still don't get why everyone here wants to make us like armorsmiths and weaponsmiths. I've been there, done that, and that's why I'm a BE now, because I want a greater challenge and something different. Now we get people whining about the fact that BE is different, lol, you just can't win.

If you've been around the BE boards for a while, you'd know that whining is a long-honored BE tradition. I think it's in the BE code of conduct somewhere, lol.

I must say...I really do like the idea of useing DNA samples to make subcomponents.

I like it, it adds a level of both complexity and control that doest seem to appear in the previous or incoming cloning system.

ARE YOU SMOKING CRACK?

1. YOU STILL HAVE TO SMAPLE DNA FROM THE MOB TO MAKE YOUR PET, THATS A CHALLENGE IN IT SELF... KEEP THINK ING THERES NO CHALLENGE TILL YOU GET DB BY THE MOB YOUR SAMPLING

So... basically... to make BE fun for you, it must be switched around and made like all the other crafter classes? Mmm hmm. Glad we disagree.
