Thread: State of profession?

Hi all,

So I've been away for about four months. When I left, BE was at its height-- tissues were finally working, and the new cloning system was out.

I've been surprised at some of the changes in the game since I came back. I don't think I've seen a single pet being used in combat. Everyone just uses doctor buffs now.

What's the state of the profession? Are BE's still getting demands for pets?

One of our servers longtime BE's has just dropped it on Ahazi. His reason was lack of CH's to sell pets to. Can't say I blame him, I've noticed the lack of pets also.

That is an astute observation. Demand for pets and pet products is way way down. The demand for buffs (both doctor and entertainer administered as well as food with the chef revamp) is extremely high. Combat has gotten so far out of hand that people just grab 80% composite, doctors buffs, varasian brandy and do a wonderful thing called "solo missions" which basically means they join a group for xp-sake but go solo anything they want on their own. The combination of armor and buffs means you can tank pretty much anything, and the mind buffs means you can use your specials like there is no tomorrow, so the need for pets is way down. Hopefully this madness will end when the combat-rebalance happens in a month or two.

the problem with pets is they're too buggy...they'll ignore commands, some of their specials are broke, theyrun off and do stuff on their own, play the chasing or running game with targetstrying to get to their optimal range, warp 100s of meters away, or worst of all the dreaded autostore bug =) Not to mention they cant keep up with vehicles and take 15s to call out in the field. They're just not worth the trouble and XP lost when nothing is able to kill you while buffed and armored unless it has 95% resists to everything and heavy armor and can survive till your brandy runs out=)

Thanks, guys.

That actually is one hugely positive change, droid-- being able to call pets/vehicles without setting up a camp.

But yes, your analysis sounds good ArthurDent. This "solo mission" business is bound to go away with the combat rebalance. The rebalance sounds hard. I suspect that it's a little further away than a couple of months. Ideally, it would get a couple of months on test just to shake it out.

I am sorry that I fall into this group of people that do not have the hours and hours of online time to wait on a large enough group of friends to form a huge hunting party so that I can participate in the "Content" that has been released in the last few months. I am lucky... and that is EXTREMELY lucky if I get 2 hours of play time a day.

Sometimes I think people in this game would only be happy if hunting a gnort tool 13 professions banded together in a blood oath, who had to travel across vast galaxies over immense timeframes and search endless tracts of wasteland to find ONE creature toattack in shifts over a week or more, just to get a couple of units of harvested materials of questionable quality.

I mean come on folks. The game is all about DOING SOMETHING. I don't like having to wait 20 minutes to travel to a hunting ground only to find that there are no groups forming there and then having to wait 20 minutes traveling back to a place where I can happily hunt gnorts!

Personally I do not see a darned thing wrong with the game as it is right this minute.... beyond the severely overlooked bugs that have taken a backseat to the more vocal elements in our midst. So I can kill a Rancor in 3 minutes. So I can take on an ATST in a 45 minute battle and win. So what! I am having fun and enjoying myself. Can't you just do the same????

It takes you 45 minutes to kill an AT-ST? So much for your 1337ness

Skinner,

I'm sure there are many many people that share your view, and will be sorely dissappointed by the combat rebalance, but I don't share it. The things that I think are most wrong is that there is no challenge and no advantage to the "hybrid" combat professions. When a TKA or rifleman or swordsman or whatever can solo a krayt or a nightsister or whatever, what challenge is there left besided pvp and what point is there to doing a hybrid profession or doing 2 different combat professions (or having a pet)? And what point is there to doing the "group hunt" which used to be a fun and social activity? It's really sad when people have to yell "looking for NON solo group" and have people staring at them like they are nuts.

The other thing, to me, is that so many of the skills have lost meaning because of the l33t factor. You just don't see rifleman using cover or the prone stance anymore, or people using traps, or warning shot, or suppression fire, or any of that stuff. All you do is literallybuff, brandy, andwalk right up to the biggest meanest things in the game and bonk them on the head proudly like you are the Albert Einstein of fighters. Some people find that a challenge I guess /shrug.

Very well said. I think the 'god like' status of a lot ofprofessions (or the FOTM type combinations) needs to be seriously adjusted. People complain that the high end content that's been added are just mobs with 100K HAM that are unkillable. Well what do you expect? When the current player base can solo things that should be insta-death if you even get near it. The current level of power that many players have is far too high and needs to come down by a huge factor.

Sorry Skinner, but I'm another who doesn't agree with you. One of the biggest things wrong with this game is the lack of challenge and group dynamic. Just last night I was killing Mantigrue Reapers 6 at a time solo with my merchant character who only has Master pistoleer - I didn't even have to break out my uber sonic pistol.Where is the challenge in that? All that says to me is that players have become grossly overpowered between the insane armor and buffs available now. Maybe you're happy being invincible, but the majority of gamers are simply going to find it boring and move on.

Wow someone gives a guy a one star for asking how things are going...nice. Anyway I would just like to say that way back when before uber armor and uber buffs things were a ton of fun. What we really have to remember is that things were even harder before the creature nerf which was going to balance out once they got the combat balance out "in a month or so". Oh and on a side note the Solo groups are for higher paying missions not the xp, and are most times more social then regular groups ..heh go figure.

I personaly have started several characters on different servers and the most fun I have is in the begining, before I can aford buffs, or armor, or good weapons. Having to run away, or be clever is so much better and is still sadly a mere shadow of how fun things were back at launch. Perhaps the combat balance will fix some of this but Im not holding my breath.
