Thread: Profit As A BE
In general, it's difficult for non-Masters to make a profit due to their limited experimentation points, sampling skills, cloning skins and schematics. This is pretty much true of all the elite crafting professions -- a Master Armorsmith will always be able to make better armor then a Novice, a Master Chef will always be able to make better food than a Novice, etc. Tailor's the one exception, as there's no experimentation. Novices can sell what they make, their only limitations being schematics and the Master-level color palette.
When I was training BE, I couldn't sell anything but house pets. It wasn't until I became Master that my business bloomed. I was bringing in a million credits a week in pet stims, tissues and clones. Then I started to get burned out, after about three months.
Here's a word of advice: Don't try and work all three trees -- tissues, meds and clones. It's too much. My advice, focus on stims. I always made more off stims than clones. C's if you can, B's if the resources for C's aren't available. Team up with a Master Doctor, and ask them to make your schematics for you. This'll mean harvesting your own medical resources, but that's easy. Note that for a stim, you should use advanced BEC and advanced LS, but you can use junk CRDM. This simplifies the stims, as you don't have the requirement of having to harvest a bunch of high-quality herbivore meat. Just make sure your ABECs are crafted for charges, not power. In other words, you want as many charges on a stim as possible. ABECs don't contribute much to the power of a stim -- that comes from the ALS.
As someone else said, B's are easy as their components are entirely machine harvested. They won't be as powerful as a C, but you'll be able to keep them in stock more easily. Be sure to use www.swgcraft.com to keep track of high-quality resources in your galaxy.
This is what I did - I sold basic camps and pet food on my vendor (business III, Artisan to get the basic vendor), I sold furniture pets (pets made with crap DNA - people do buy these - sell them cheap). Now since you only have a vendor, and no planetary map - to advertise, stand in front of the starport, make a macro to spam your business - what you are selling and where it is (give cords). Don't be too annoying with the macro, use a nice pause length.
The biggest demand for me is Tailor tissues. If you can gather the materials, that could be a very nice business, just selling tissues by the crate on your vendor, or doing special orders. I'm going to guess that Chef tissues will be in demand after the patch hits, so you might want to consider making those as well.
Pet stims are fairly easy to make, however quite a few components need to be made in order to produce decent ones (several factory runs), and the best pet stims are made with components from a schematic created by a doctor.
Try not to spread yourself too thin, it's much easier to pick a target audience than to try to keep every BE craftable item in stock.
Also, make a whole bunch of tissues and sell them to people working on Tailor or Chef for cheap (barely above the cost of the resources). To them, it is a bonus in their product that costs next to nothing, and you can get a little cash and maybe a future business partnership out of it.
Making custom decoration pets works too.
Good luck!
I've been told the going price on farstar is 0-5k for non CH pets - and after spending all day sampling enough DNA to make 9 CL 9 and 10 pets, plus 3 trash mounts - it got me thinking - whats the point? At max price thats equivalent to 10 Master Tailor items, that take a lot less of my time effort and patience. I think from now on I shall make abonimations of nature purely for my own amusement.
I was trying for Combat Medic before jumping ship for BE, so I came to this from Master Medic, and 4114 artisan.
I make the majority of my money from Pet Stims. I made my own not so great harversters, and started gathering resources. It was a pain in the butt at first, since I pretty much had to check them every day to make sure they had maint and power.
But I used my guild factory, and churned out 150 Pet Stim Bs and sold them for 100K (they were pretty crappy stims)to a friendly vendor.
Used about a quarter of that money to buy a lot ofpower from same vendor, and a micro flora with 4BER (the ones I made were 3).
Now I only needed to check the harversters every three days or so. So a week later, I made another 200 pet stims. This time I had a doctor friend make my schematics for the advanced components (Liquid suspensions and the like). These pet stims were about twice as good as the original batch.
Sold 150 ofthem to the same vendor friend (as agreed when she cut me a nice deal on the power and flora farm) for a nice profit. Also gave/sold the last 50 to friends in my guild/city. Alsoput the nicer ones on the bazaar for 3K apiece. I put them on Lok, Dathomir, and Dantooine usually. Where people are less common, and a good pet stim can come in QUITE handy.
So now I'm 3344 and hopefully master quite soon. I sell pets from time to time, but I'm very cautious about it, as I don't need 100 people yelling at me next publish when they can't call their pets. Usually its only pets for guild/city friends. And I give those away more than sell them. They can't complain if it was free!!
But that's how I make my money. At the momemt I'm working on a run of 500 Stim B with 701 power, and 19 charges. That will keep me in cash for a long time to come...
