Thread: BEs: now too much BS? discuss...
So,I am not here to grief or flame...just trying to figure something out...
Howthe frell am I supposed to justifyprogressing to Master CH, not to mention the skill point sink, when any Master BE without scruples can now sit in a starport and spam:
"Uber NON-CH pet, cl10, ar1 40ish resists, 9k ham, specials...1million credits"
Aside from the shady deal of offering an obviously bugged/broken creature experimented down from cl50, likely to be around no longer than the next publish, isn't this ENTIRELY contrary to what the DEVs intended with the creature rebalance? I cannot find a wild tamable with ar1 under cl40 now... why should BEs be crafting these creature-tanks if a near-master CH canNOT tame one?
To all you incredible BEs who have been at it since your profession was amongst the most broken, keep it up! This is in no way directed towards you...
To that asinine Rebel BE spamming in Theed, you should be ashamed...I /reported you for harassment for lack of any other useful outlet...knowingly exploiting a bug like that, and trying to pawn your freakish pets off on the unsuspecting public for a small fortune shows what sort of character you are, and how little you possess...
To all the CHs, BEs, and DEs(combat models coming):
What are we to do about this? I have been CH since my free month, way back when...if the DEVs don't want the CH profession to be what it has become, then eliminate it, or modify it meaningfully...do not nerf us out of existence entirely by borking our pets, and giving better ones to everyone else =p But if it is your plan to simply break my will with your borkage, you have nearly succeded...someone offer a useful suggestion?
dont worry eventually they will get theres in the end. as will the buyers of the creatures.
Can you say Nerf to those?
Prepare to be one-starred.
These unbalanced pets will be dealt with, I'm sure of it.
It's certainly not just kahmurrith species dna btw. Anything which has effectiveness resistances rather than special protections has an incorrect CL one way or another.

Tal-N, I've seen you say this a few times, could you please explain the difference betwen the two? I read some of it on the armor boards but it didn't make a lot of sence. What it looked like was that effectiveness was beter than resists.
Resists are the amount of protection you have so a resist of 40 means you take only 60% of the dammage from that type weapon.
Effectiveness seemed to be the opposite, being that the weapon is only that effective against you, so 10% effective means a weapon of that type only does 10% of its dammage.
Is this right?
wow, really?? Nah, that can't be right, otherwise Eff would be higher on lower level critters letting more damage through?
Like the CL 22 Mountain Worrt with is 10% in Kin, Blast Restraint...
I'm not going to *star* this post one way or the other, but I'm a Master CH, and I think it's about time that the BE's got some attention.
The CH profession is not specifically geared towards "pet vending", the BE profession is. Nor is CH the "transportation provider" class. Master Artisans are -- (although personally I think it should be the DE's). Pets that we can tame in the wild are great, if BE's can make even better ones, why is that a problem? Same for mounts. I use my mount when I have pets in tow, but to get some place fast, I use my swoop.
I know that this post is ostensibly about bugged DNA and exploits, but from your tone it sounds as if you are generally not happy with the fact that BE's can now make good pets. I agree that bugs should be fixed, and exploits should be addressed, but I don't begrudge BE's superior pets.
Just my two cents.
It just seems to be how the resists are catagorised. I dunno the difference since basically if an mob has 50% energy protection falling into either catagory then the damage is still reduced by 50%. So it seems to simply be how the system recognises the resists and has no real bearing on how it operates. Let me take a few examples, the mountain squill is usually CL34. All effectiveness resists with a few vulnerabilities, take 5 samples, make a copy and it'll be around CL15. Now do the same with a barkmite burrower or a mantigrue screecher. Both species have all resists as special protections and the clone from 5 samples will indeed be around the same CL as the wild animal.
What this means is that the more resists an clone has as effectiveness the more it's CL is wrong, look at all of these low CL super pets. Every single one of them will have the majority if not all of thier resists as effectiveness. I even used this knowledge to make myself a custom bodyguard other than my nocous kahmurrith one. I took3 merek deaths head samples and 2 roba stalker. Now the roba has weakness to cold and heat special protection, however the rest of it's resists are all effectivness. You don't even need to use them in the old 1/2/5 and 3/4 combinations now that I know what is happening, i stuck the deaths head into 1/2/3 and the roba into 4/5. The result was a first gen clone which was CL12 with poison and knockdown. I resampled this resulting in a CL5 clone with all the same resists and around 9.4 HAM for health and action with 5.7 for mind. Damage was around 190 but this was designed to have the combination of specials I wanted not the raw tanking ability of my other bodyguard.
Try this with other stuff, desert razorback + mountain squill. Kahmurrith defiler + merek deaths head, Spined puc + nocous kahmurrith. ect.. ect..
/snicker
I love a good irony ![]()
The irony is heres you exposing these types of pets and making them, and I've been defending them (to a degree) and avoiding making them. Kinda funny when you think about it *grin*
I guess that means Eff has a lot less wieght in the system than SP's, so Eff's mustn't then be as good? Or is the system just bugged to hell?

Hell if I can figure out what is going on then so can anyone else, the fact is though the playtesters missed this, the programmer missed this so it's clear that someone needs to get out the colored paper and crayons and spell it out for them in big capital letters and then throw some glitter sparkles onto it in order to make it sink in so they know what to fix.
I guess that means Eff has a lot less wieght in the system than SP's, so Eff's mustn't then be as good? Or is the system just bugged to hell?
No, it means the same. The reduction is damage is identical if it's a special protection or effectiveness. The armor guide simply states that when it comes to player armor if the special layers protection is higher than the base effectiveness then it overrides it. However in the wild that is meaningless. One possibility is that the animals have simply been made by different designers who knew that it didn't matter what type of protection is was... until now at leastthat wastrue, the diffferent types didn't matter at all.
My point was that maybe the code that determines CL rates Eff as not being as good as SP, hence the massive drop in CL for those critters with Eff, not SP.
Perhaps this is giving us a glimpse of the "guts" of how things actually work, not how they are supposed to work. Eff may well "supposed" to be as good as SP, but the CL code sure doesn't seem to think so...
