okay.. you have to let me start out by saying that i feel really bad and like.. im being a total ass.. but i have to say this for the good of the BE's here...

swgbioengineer.com is a new website that has been advertised and bumped every single day for a while.. theres some new reason to visit it every day.. so far, current as of 10/23/3 ... i adamantly suggest sticking to the real website... bio eng 101... and its more useful/userfriendly baby brother.. gasp bio eng..

the new website, though trying to be more informative... tends to mislead a lot... it has a lot of the same data and has options to view the data with or without pictures... the layout is easy to use.. but.. all in all.. i feel like it's cheating ... the feel of the website is not to ultimately bring new and important knowledge to bio eng's, but rather to take credit for really incredible sites (thanks sinnyval for all your hard work.. and excuse my consistant spelling error in your name if i didn't get it right)...

the price guide is rediculous atleast from the point of view of anyone i know right now... and i'm personally going to boycott that website until something NEW and IMPORTANT and USEFUL and actually TRULY GOOD is put up there...

(fyi, bio eng 101 and gasp bio eng are linked to my website, url below)...

i'm not saying my website is any better or complete or more noteworthy, but i can have my opinions.. and i do think you can get a lot out of any of these sites... even swgbioengineer.com ... (hah am i advertising it too now?).. but i just get this really bad feeling like im betraying the original by visiting it.

Bad form, bad form indeed.

Fact of the matter is, who cares who did what first? Every person has a right to create their own informative "fan" site. It doesn't matter who did it first. Basically, in the end, everyone is going to have all the same information. Some sites may look better, some may not.

Now for the other edge of the sword. I do this for a living. I'm a software/web application developer, and manage a department of developers/designers. We do constant critique work. Your site is no better, so don't flame anyone else's. Drive traffic to your site by posting on the boards if you will, but don't do so by saying someone else's site sucks, or they're stealing information, or copying it, and taking credit for it.

Like I said, it's a game, and in the end, everyone will be sharing the same information for the most part. Where did that information come from? The game.

i had no intention to drive people to my site over someone elses by talking crap about theirs.. i thot that was made clear but perhaps i didnt word it that well...

your reply to my post showed no sense of honoring the original.. and you have every right to feel that way.. but.. using the price guide as an example... that website is a negative aspect to bio eng's... i'd rather people ask around to all the bio eng's in game and get answers that way than go to that site and assume their prices are worthy.

please dispell any idea that im trying to advertise my website... regardless of what came out in the first post, i'd like to restate.. that i am pro bio eng 101 and pro gasp bio eng.. and against the new site. the end.

I would like to add one more thing, since you were complaining about his price guide, then I'm leaving this topic for good.

I'm glad he did. Do I agree with his prices? No. Do I think they're too high? Maybe. Did I learn something from it? Yes. And that's the point. I know what someone else is charging, and that's all I wanted to know. Granted, perhaps he shouldn't have called it a "guide" and instead worded it as "my price list". I wish more people would post what they charge, to give a good indication of what a nice range would be.

I think pets are very difficult to charge. The reason is because their stats can range greatly. For example, I see Kahmurras for sale on the bazaar for 2K-3K, yet they have almost 1K HAM less than my wife's does, along with other low stats. Does that mean I should charge 6K, 10K? Who knows. But these are the things I try to find out with people's pricing "guides" and formulas.

its all presentation.. i was referring to the idea that he was presenting it as if it should be a guide... and i don't agree with that.. i'll go ahead and post my prices with the warning that they're my prices and my prices alone...

glad we agree on something.

I have to disagree, everyone is entitled to an opinion as much as everyone is entitled to their own wbesite. You shouldn't beat down someone for voicing their opinion, feel free to disagree with it but never say that they shouldn't have opened their mouth or posted it.

Regardless of the intent, reviewing someone else's website, when you have already created a competitor, makes you look like a **edit**. I wonder if that word will get censored?

Just because your a competitor doesn't mean your not entitled to an opinion or voice it. There's far too much of a popularity contest on these forums where you get some stick for rocking the boat even a little, I agree we should get along but you should also give people a right to their opinion out of simple respect for someone who is in the same **edit**pit as you (ei. bio-engineering)

first of all he didnt create either of the 2 main "competitors" as you put it.

secondly, i aggree with him on every aspect. i have found several parts of the website in which the information is completely wong, some as simple as what vitality packs do.. ("heal a pets health action and mind wounds" - do they do that now? -_-).i have found several other innacurate stats/ingredients posted there and honestly dont feel that it is a credible source and wouldnt feel comfortable going there when i need to be reminded of something - a stat or an ingredient for something specific(my opinion, too bad - i know).

the price guide is also something that kinda rubbed me the wrong way. regardless of any differences in opinion i may have...

(ex. mounts for 30k obviosly doesnt take into account the extreme damand and possible non-existant decay of our product.. before AND afterwildmounts are considered - colored mounts anyone? ... or a bugged housepet that cost around 200c + 1 minute of gathering yard trash DNA for 100k?)

...a pricing guide is ALWAYS a bad idea - nothing good can come out of it. not only is price fixing silly, the creator of the website (though he does say that it can vary server to server)fails to mention that those prices are just reflecting his opinion, thus implying explicitly through the word "guide" that those prices reflect those of most, if not all, bio engineers - thers no mention of quality in pricing, nor are there wild or high quality creature stats on the site.

aside from possible misleading BE's, it can seriously affect the business of the rest of the BE's when someone looking for a pet see's the "price guide" and expects to get that price for a specific creature, whereas offering that price to a novice would get them ripped off, and to a master might get them told off.

im not writing this to protest the site, although i wont be using it - no offense to anyone - i am writing this to show thatterihlon wasnt off-base on his comments, he was stating - since the website fails to - that that site offers nothing new (not even a mention, let alone a link to the real BE sites)and that it does not speak for all BE's.

more than acceptable in my book.

I dont often agree with SOF but I have to say you put that argument about a 'pricing guide' very nicely. Please folks, there is no GUIDE to pricing as it varies a great deal not over from one server to the next but also from induvidual to induvidual. Offer methods of working out pricing but enough you cover various ones rather than a single type which you personally like.

His price guide is fine, its no different than anyone asking what they charge here and someone offering the info. Yep i dont agree with his prices, but what difference does that make? If someone wants or expects me to sell at a price b/c of someone elses prices. Go buy from them or if they are to high, even better for me.

I personally will not cut down anything anyone does to assist bio's. I used sinnyls site and was thankful it was there. The pet creature level was perfect as i use that info during the creation of my pets. Divided into two catagories with names - CH or NON CH along with thiercreature level. This saves so many /tells requesting this info if its included as part of the name.

Personally i charge approx 10X hps of pet (for the most part) up to level 26. After that it varies on the stats. My yard trash kimos (which i cannot keep on vendors). I sell one a day usually is 50k ;period. I set that when i became master and never looked back, never had a complaint and in fact quite the opposite.

You guys with bio websites - keep up the great work and thanks for the help in leveling us up.

Not bad form? What a bunch of **edit** that is. I may be wrong, but I thought the profession boards were supposed to be a community, for the most part, united. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and while I agree with this completely, I don't agree that it's always good form to voice your opinion. We're supposed to be a community, banded together, not bashing each other's website's and promoting traffic to other websites or even your own (yes, he did mention to visit his, read again). This is just not good form, and it's very childish.

Why bother doing it in the first place? If you don't like the website, don't use it. But don't come here and tell people the site sucks and use someone else's. The better thing to do is recommend other sites when people ask for information that you feel are better. Is that reasonable? Is that not a better thing to do?

And one last thing regarding his prices. I hope he keeps them up there, although I do wish that he changes the wording from "guide" to "my price list", so not to confuse people. It's the same thing as someone coming here and asking what people charge, is it not?
