Thread: I'm Delbon, and I'm a Bio-engineer...

Hello, my name is Daniel...er, Delbon, and I'm a bio-engineer. I've not posted a rant in a little over 3 hours. My last muon gold dose was 16 hours ago...I'm feeling the need as we speak, on both counts.

I've been a bio-engineer for a little over 2.5 months, although I was an aspiring one right after launch. I found it appealing because I really wanted to make some cool creatures that I could use to whoop tail out in the wild. Yes, even when I was a tender-finned tadpole, I had decided to master both bio-engineering and creature handling. I just mastered bio-engineer earlier this week, and I'm about halfway to mastering creature handler. I took my time moving through this profession (as evidenced by the amount of time I took to climb Mt Everest and reach master), but I'll admit that I did indeed grind that last box of cloning one night when I got anxious to hit master. I'll probably master CH sometime in early December, when I can get back out hunting in the wilds (after this mounts craze is past and I've not got any orders to fill).

I've made my fair share of petstims and vitality packs, enough that I think I merit the title Master Veterinarian. I've made more money than I care to count off of these things, but credits are really just Monopoly money anyway. I'll confess I've sold a few critters here and there (selling kahmurras is almost a guilty pleasure, since they're naught when compared to the other non-CH pets), and I've even made a kimo or two. All in all, I'd say that I enjoy this profession.

I find myself fearing that we'll soon be an extinct class. The devs seem to be doing their best to ignore us and make us all leave the profession we love so much. I, for one, will not stand for it.

My name is Daniel. And I am a bio-engineer. And I am proud of it.

I'm proud of being a bio-engineer, I wear my genetacist title all of the time. However the point is while we might be proud to be one does it get you any respect or admiration from others? On the whole I'd say no. I see a master BH and theres a certain amount of respect I have for the person since it's an profession with a purpose. When people look at a master bio-engineer do you honestly think they feel like that?

I think some people really do. I go through Theed all the time, and I get the occasional, "Wow, that's the first master bio-engineer I've seen." That is kinda nice, but it's the, "Wow, this is an AWESOME [insert gurreck/rancor]! Thanks a million!" that makes it all worth is. One thing I think needs to be pointed out is that we don't need respect as a profession in order to gain legitimacy within the universe here. Sure, having crowds part and whisper, "Whoa, there goes that Master Bio-engineer...Wonder what nasty creatures he's making right now?" would be cool and all, but it isn't absolutely necessary to fitting our profession into Star Wars.

On another note, I've given a lot of thought to the things I've posted recently, and I have some apologies to make.

DeltaNine: my apologies for yelling at you. I doubt you'll read this thread, but I apologize just the same. It's your choice to follow your Holocron, and I can't fault you for that.

Traigus: I've not said anything directly to you, but I'd like to apologize for the community as a whole (ok, they didn't all say, "Hey, let's let Del speak for the rest of us," and I know that I'm probably not speaking the general opinion here). We're all angry (understandably so), but some of the comments made to you were uncalled for and completely out of line.

The devs: I don't really feel like I owe you an apology, but at the same time, I know you guys are working. I may not see the results now (and I may not see them in 6 months; who knows?), but I appreciate the fact that you're still trying. Keldarin, I know it's gotta be hard to come in here and read some of these posts and see your name being dragged through the mud/thrown into the flames. Even though we've not heard from you in a while, we do appreciate the things we've gotten so far (yes, they are few, but I think I should point out that a few is still greater than 0).

Anyway, hopefully other people will post to this thread too and introduce themselves That was the point of it, I suppose...The few new bio-engineers we get should be welcomed to our community (it may be vitriolic and a little histrionic now, but that'll die after we eventually get fixed).

And one more time...

I am proud to be a bio-engineer.

Heheh, I don't think that praise as the result of ignorance is all that flattering People walk into my lab and see the rancor on display (it's a junk dna one) and say thats an incredible rancor and ask to buy it sometimes. The fact is that I'd prefer praise from someone who understands the profession than someone who doesn't, it's the equivilent of performing a card trick for a 4yr old who then thinks your wonderful cause they don't understand it.

Lol, the whole point of a card trick is so the kiddie won't get it I remember that my Grandpa used to pull a penny (or a quarter, or a nickel, or a dime...pick your currency) out from behind my ear, or out of my nose, or out of my armpit. It took me FOREVER to finally figure out he wasn't making money on the spot But the point is, I enjoyed it either way, although when I had it figured out it wasn't quite as cool. Ignorance in this case isn't any big matter; we CAN DEFINITELY make better rancors and gurrecks than can be tamed. I don't think many people would dispute that, and even if it's not entirely true, it's still worth it to hear the thanks.

Thanks.
I'm good at taking flames... I'm a teacher, and a target for unspecified general anger (at my very existence sometimes) pretty much whenever I'm at work.

As a non-starter profession Master BE SHOULD mean something. While it may be sad, whatever the skin changes on the new clone line wil lget you more "oooh" factor then anything meaningful.

I currently play 15 professions, and frequent the boards of a few more.. most people have gone "class" based, and focus very specifically on 1-3 professions... leaving the rest to be a big mystery. They also are operating a lot on the "us v. them" theory... so, many are openly antagoinistic BH and Pisoleers are constantly at each other's throats.

All the really broken professions are like 12-step programs.

Hehe, I teach as well (organic chemistry, ironically enough). I feel your pain, although I think that college students are a little bit better at keeping it behind my back. I'm glad that you contribute here and try to maintain a relatively positive atmosphere; I know it's hard, and I think I've only recently come to terms with my anger. It's hard to accept that we're still messed up, and there is no visible, transparent, obvious work being done. It's hard to take anything human on faith, but I just guess that's what we'll have to do

/cheers for teachers

Proud to be Bio Engineer too.

Probably because this is the subject i'm working on at the university, probably because i'm fascinating by this unknown frontieer of the science. Cheers for us all !

P.s.

Once i met a guy, he told me : I respect you because BE is one of the most difficult profession to achieve. Only who is good motivated get it!

I'm Buboo and I'm a bio-engineer. Its been 5 minutes since my last rant. I'm feeling jittery already.

I spent the afternoon sampling butterflies on Corellia because since this last patch everything I sample attacks me (I have DNA sampling 4). I wear 3 different garments made with mask scent material and it breaks as often as it did without the garments. My animal, which is my only real protection, rubber bands on me, and I getmissions to waypoints with no lair.

I'm looking for a sponsor to help me get past the rants. Someone that can sit with me while I jitter and quake. Someone that will lie to me and tell me the devs really do care.

I feel another rant coming on.

Hello, my name is Hida and I'm a bio-engineer.

It's been a whole day since my last rant and I'm still having fun. I also appear to be insane today.

Yes, Spazzers, the devs really do care. Hahahahaha!
