Thread: Is there a reason why we cant harvest after sampling?
Since alot of BE's can afford a second proffesion(CH,Riflman,Swrdsman,ect...),this does not irratate me at all for I have combat skills.I do see, however,A BE that is a Docter and have no combat skills what so ever would be a wee bit annoying.
Imo,we damage a creature less sampling then, lets say,a Commando that burns the poor thing to death, charred and turned to ashes. There is no reason we shouldnt be able to harvest after the creatures death from sampling.
If the Devs follow their normal path though,if we keep complaining about this, they will not make it better for us,they will maybe put some sort of "damage meter" on the creature,so if you damage the creature to much by blowing it up or whatever, they wont be harvestable by anyone.
I of course do not want that, but sticking with this proffesion for 5 months, going through all the trails and bugs, nothing would surprise me anymore.
The reasoning is both a complex one, and a simple one.
The Simple Answer:
When we sample the DNA, we are not actually in conflict - therefore "we" did zero damage and are not able to harvest or loot the creature.
* This can be verified by attempting to loot the creature
The Complex Answer:
This seems to be mainly an issue with permissions rather than an implemented mech. When looting you recieve the message "You do not have permission to access corpe" or what have you. This seems to be in line with the infamous MegaSeal containers in some of the caves out there. However, this may also be a mech by the Dev's to increase the time it takes to Master BE. I can't imagine the luxury of being able to harvest all of those guys I killed making my way up the sampling line. Quite possibly, I could have made the 80k stack of meat required to grind craft the rest of the profession (whooda thunk it, seamless profession mastery, this would indicate a working system no?). Really though, I do believe it to be a matter of permissions.
Anyone remember back in the day when the same thing would happen when a DoT/Bleed would be put on and the player that placed it did not get the credit/exp for the kill? Same thing in this case methinks.
So for the simple answer, what happens if you fail, do damage to the pet, run away and come back sample and kill it...you did damage so therefor would have access to that corpse.
