Since the big CH nerf, many left the profession and the remaining ones just wanna tame pets.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=creature_handler&message.id=154332

Check this out, the CH's that have remained in the profession apparently think their sole purpose in the game is to tame pets... This post got 9 pages of posts so far and is still raging.

They feel the must tame pets, but don't know why. They do not post about the mission they do with their pets. I predict that at some point the game will throw them a bone. I hopethey give them apurpose rather than taking the bone from us.

I would be fine with things if...

  • The super rare tameable BS that we were given were given a reason to be so rare.

  • If CH's were actually able to have a stable for pets, something nice and interesting for people to look at.

  • If the devs could figure out what we are and give us our place, because we really don't have one.

  • If everything wrong with this game didn't oddly revolve around the Creature Handler Profession.

Not all of the CHs feel that way... but yeah there are a handfull of pretty vocal "taming purists".

I think CH profession could use some fixing, but do not agree with calling for nerfs on one profession to fix another.

Anyway, just wanted to post that not every CH is out to get the BE.

It's not that the "Taming Purist" CHs are anti-BE, it's just that there is more skill and pride in being able to find your pet out in the wild.

While BEs do serve the same function for CHs as Weaponsmiths do for all combat profs, the ability for a CH to get his or her "weapon" in the wild is something that makes them unique.

It's a symbol of accomplishment more than a sign of boycott against BEs, but that's just an ex-MCH's opinion.

Yeah and there isn't anything wrong with wanting to tame decent wild pets... but people should not be asking for a nerf of one profession to get another improved.

I don't think the BEs would be hurt if there were a few wild rare pets that were better than what is out there now... but CHs should not be asking for ways of downgrading BE in the process.

in my experience as a mch (was master for a while), there is no skill involved in running around some god forsaken planet and getting lucky when stuff spawns around you that is a good pet.

it wasn't skill that made me find the graul maulers (remember when those were awesome?), it was luck.

Did anyone call for a nerfing of BE? We're all a bit miffed at the bugged pets and the *massively* better stats on BE pets. You guys aren't just supplying good pets, they are bar none better than anything available in the wild.

You would have a wide-open market if you could make either general purpose pets and let us tame niche pets, or you make niche pets and we tame general purpose pets. The current system has you guys making better pets of every variety and has taken the exploration out of our profession.

For those of us who are all about combat, stats matter above uniqueness or the challenge of taming. There's nothing wrong with this approach, but I don't see why all of us should be pushed into that train of thought.

For some of us, the adventure of exploring the wilds and the challenge of taming our own pet has been largely lost because we know that no matter what we find in the wild, it's really not that special. We could contract a BE to make something the same or better with little or no effort and so it feels wasted.

There are taming purists out there. There are BE purists as well. I don't think either one is right and we can't let those of us in the middle get pushed out to either end.

Little or no effort?! Yeah, little or no effort on your part to let the ink dry on your contract order...Try going out and getting DNA from mutant rancors on Dathomir one night and tell me there isn't any effort involved...or maybe spend three nights running around Endor looking for bark mite burrowers and their queens, and mantigrue reapers. Oh, and then feel the pain when you critically fail on either the DNA combine or the final creature combine (cause believe me, it happens, and seems to happen more often when you use high-level DNA). In fact, it even seems that the crit fail chance increases as the number of times I die to get DNA (for your uber pet) increases. Oh, and don't even get me started on the cloning system that's so complex that we bio-engineers here on the forums haven't even collectively figured it all out yet.

Really, I don't see what the whole "taming is so much fun and requires so much skill" thing is about. I can hit the Tame button as fast as the next guy, and I can even laugh at the corny "Don't bite me" taming dialog for a little bit. But really, if it's about exploration, take a nice walk around, or a ride on your mount (bio-engineered, of course ), or break out the speeder and go see the cool stuff and pretty landscape this game has to offer. The exploration/taming thing with pets makes no sense to me, and I was a CH for a long time myself. The complaint about bio-engineers making head-and-shoulders-better-than-wild pets still comes down to the debate about loot weaponry being worse than crafted weaponry.

I don't mean this as a shot at creature handlers (like I said, I was one for a long time myself), but you guys really are complaining baselessly, and, in my opinion, pointlessly.

BE's are not a one-trick pony. Making pets for CH is not the only thing you do. Taming and training pets *is* the only thing we do. The fun has been sucked out of the stand-out feature of our profession. Now we're at best a decent crowd control in PvE and at worst a curiousity.

Taming and training is the only thing CHs do now? Wow, and I thought you were a combat profession aimed for defence over offence. When I had CH, I had it to provide a tank for my hunting party, not to go tame and train animals. You're complaining that naturals aren't as good as BE pets and then say all you do is tame and train, last I checked you can still tame and train.

The reason CH is the delecate balance of combat is because they potential control most everything in the wild. BE have empowered CHs to have pets better than wild ones so you are fighting with an upper hand. We can also provide pets to rival prenerf pets so you can still participate in PvP.

CHs also tend to forget that they are in the midst of a combat change. Pets took the first hit, but there is a temporary solution in BEs. When weapons take a hit next CHs will dominate PvP again.

CH isn't a solo profession, like damn near every other profession in the game. Thats right, just like every other profession in the game it relys on another profession to be really good.

The most vocal complaining is always on the boards, where the happy people are silent. In game, I find CH's to be rarely negative towards a BE and usually very grateful.
