Thread: Chef wanted schematic
The chef does not gain any ability he does not have or should not, just a boost to the availability of the suppliments and the convenience of having them where and when he needs them. He cannot make an unlimited supply, and can only use what he has provided to you in terms of the resources to make them. You can even set a limit on the number of items the schematic will make.
I have made a couple of schematics for chefs, charging them about 2/3 of what I normally charge per item to make the suppliments for them, with their materials. We have agreed on the price, and the number of items in the schematic, and I usually set the schematic for a maximum of 250 items, which is a reasonable day's run on them for most of the items. The chef can make the suppliments in their factory and take out what they need at the time, which allows them to use the factory itself as storage, and have the specific item right at hand when they need it, or make themselves a schematic and know what they will have available for it when they are ready.
You'll have to forgive me for the assumption, but to me, it seems like the idea of "never sell a schematic to a chef" sounds an awful lot like "we won't continue to make huge amounts of money from chefs if you do this" and smack more than a little of greed, which seems to be the biggest player-based problem in the game. I do not know that this is your real intention, but it does come across badly as it is written, without the rest of the cues like a smile or a tone of voice that would change the meaning hearing it said.
To me, in fact, I am making suppliments in my factories for one or two orders, while someone else is using a schematic that they paid me a per-item price to make for them to make others for their use. I'm making not only the money for the ones I am running, but makig money for the ones they can run, that they have even paid me up front for the priveledge of doing, without my having to collect the resources or maintain and support the additional factory. Seems like a better deal for me than making them myself.
All in all, I do not see it as wrong to make the schematic to sell to a chef. If you read the FAQ and notice the section about having a master doc make you schematics or components for stims, it sounds a lot more like they are taking our own good advice.
Nothing personal about you meant here, just a different point of view about selling schematics, that if we sell them for a reasonable price, we are not taking business from anyone.

Please explain to me the difference between making x amount of money selling supplements and x amount of money selling a schematic. Either way they are paying for your skills.
Well, there's a huge difference actually, but we're not talking about x vs x. If a chef wants to run 40 crates of tissues, and he can buy tissues for 50k/crate, he's not going to buy a schematic for 2 million, he's going to buy it for much much much much less (or get it for free).
In the one case, the chef buys tissues. The tissues are sold, they are removed from the marketplace. Supply is lowered, keeping the tissue price high. The BE selling the tissue will make more, and likely sell them at the same price again. The chef pays full price for his tissues, and must factor that into the price of his goods.
In the other case, the chef snags the free/cheap schematic. No tissues are sold, demand has gone down, but supply remains right where it is, potentially devaluing the tissues of those actually trying to sell them. Furthermore, since this chef saved a bundle in getting them, he now has a market advantage over his peers who have in the past been buying tissues. Now those wanting to buy tissues have to make a tough call whether to go for free schematics themselves or pay full price and have less margin in their goods, assuming they desire to price their goods competitively.

Speaking from experience, I'm a Master Chef on Sunrunner, and I can't find any BE's that will supply me with crates of Broad-spectrum Nutrients period. I'm so desperate that I have started harvesting the components needed to make them so I can do a deal with a MBE for the schematic.
I will pay 50K per crate of Broad-spectrum Nutrients, but you trying finding anyone selling crates on Sunrunner !! So help out the chefs, and either start selling crates of Broad-spectrum Nutrients in decent quantities or be open to selling a schematic for a reasonable price, 150K tops.
