Thread: The graul mauler lost
I figured this was close enough to a pet issue to tell about this.
Something interesting happened the other day. I had a friend that I sold a Gaping Spider Hunter to. He had a duel right in front of me with a guy with a Graul mauler. Even though the spider is CL 44 and the mauler 34, I did not know who was going to win. well the 2 owners were rennung around town, the pets stood and fought. That Spider still had half his life left when the mauler dropped.
I have not seen any evidence that the Mauler has been nerfed... The mauler has ar1 and kinetic 75 I think. The Spider has ar1 and kinetic 40. It must be the poisonous attacks of the spider... The mauler does like 330 damage, spider does about 500.
I just didn't know a mauler could be owned. THere was a Master Creature handler that watched this and immediately yelling "WTB Gaping Spider Hunter".
Was this relevant?
Well, Maulers are pretty much the all purpose pet. Only reason being is it's Armor Light and 75% Kinetic Resist. Other then that, it's notmuch good. And doesn't hit worth a **edit**.
The gaping spider with it's strong poison attack and about 200 more damage with a slight drop in kinetic resist should have little problem dropping a Graul Mauler, espcially since the GSH has 10800 HAM I think.
Though for hunting GSH's can be a pain, they attack with range initially, and sometimes don't hold agro well. GSH is a pretty good PvP pet, better than a graul mauler in my opinion.
Althought the grauls and graul maulers run in a fight. They dont stand and fight very well. There are times i will use a pair of BDQ's over my pair of graul mauls. Just because i dont feel like either losing them. Or running 200m while they run from something.
I would have thought this was a part of ferocity. BUt apparently since they look like 15 foot tall teddy bears they really want to talk and not fight
As a Master CH, I rarely use my maulers any more, unless I'm just looking for a couple of shields. They tend to run all over the place and miss as often as they hit.
Oddly enough, my favorite duo these days is my Gaping Spider Hunter paired with my Brackaset mount or one of my Grand Wrix. With it's ranged attack, the spider usually gets in some damage before the target has even touched my pets. Also, I've never had my spider run from a fight; sometimes the target will try to back off, but the spider just follows on its heels and stops it in its tracks (unlike my maulers, whose favorite tactic seems to be "let's introduce our master to our new friend" by leading a fambaa or kimoglia back to me).
Actually, during the fight, neither took a step. They stood nose to nose and had it out.
When my GM starts to run, I target the creature we are fighting and hit "follow". the mauler comes back and then you tell him to attack again. If you had 2... you could have different follow commands and an icon for each and accomplish the same.
Strangly with Grauls i also noticed they dont run when their in packs. If i have my two out and someones hunting with me has a third. As long as we keep the GM's on the same target they dont run. Its when their singled out that they run.
Your right about them showing their friend to their master. Their not the brightest in the world. But steering this back to a BE thread. I wonder what a hyper intelligent Master BE made GM would be like.
Yeah any pet that starts to run, just tell it to attack again. This usually stops them in their tracks and they turn around. Using folllow then attack is dangerous because the agro often turns to the creature's owner who has been pounding from range(especially if the creature has a ranged attack).
It doesn't surprise me the GSH won handily. Strong poison, like any damage over time bleed, is a butt kicker because each tick of the bleed doesn't check armor or resists.
Yeah bleeds rock. Here's a cool trick I figured out if you are a pistoleer get Pistol stances1. Get your pet to attack something and stand about 9m away from the target. Use pistolmeleedefense1 to knock it down, when it falls use healthshot 2, healthshot 1. There is much less resistence to bleeds when they are knocked down, with a Krayt FWG with a damage power up I can get over 3000 points worth of bleeds on a target when it works well. After you have bleeds on switch to your Cheaper FWG5 or your Republic blaster if they have armor
Don't use that on anything you can't stand to take a couple hits from though, it draws a bit of aggro. Never been brave enough to try this on a krayt though, maybe when I get a set of buffs I will.
and this is in the BE board because:
a: we cant make graul maulers
b: we cant make gaping spider hunters
c: after the patch everything we make will be a nut job compared to wild creatures
d: you think showing off is cool
I think yer answer would be d.
Well, I'm aware of spamming commands to keep the maulers in their place, my point is that with certain pets you just don't have to. You would think it was tied in to ferocity, but it seems to not follow a logical reason.
The best explanation I've seen was a post about the "reach" of a creature's attack; how possibly mauler's need an ideal hit range versus their targets range so they do a little dance with each other to adjust their range.
