Thread: The graul mauler lost
Yeah, what this means for you BE is that the CH haven't been totally bull**edit**ting you on this one.
I for one love diseasing and poisoning pets. I'm using my maulers because as a hunter in the wild, I just really need a PvE tank, I would like to get into PvP more, but CH just isn't a contender right now. If you guys can make better PvP pets, or even PvE pets that have worthwhile resists *and* damage output (with wild pets we very much have to pick between those two) you can make a killing.
Ranged is good, diseased and poison are great. A high damage pet that doesn't eat it when the shooting (or punching) starts would be nice. The graul mauler has kind of proven the test case for the low damage-high resist pets.
There might even be combos we haven't had available to us yet, so be sure to offer your friendly neighborhood CH a couple experimental pets too. With all new creatures, we might not even know what we want yet.
I am not at all suprised that the GSH owned the graul mauler. I would put mine against any graul mauler any day.
Here is my prepatch combo I hunt with the most
Gaping Spider Hunter
Mountain Krevol
The GSH as said above has several advantages in a fight over a Graul Mauler. The first is poison, although only medium is plenty strong enough and it has only slightly less kinetic resist with a nice boost in HAM over the GM.
I once got killed twice by a lair of bordoks, one of the random ones that spawns about 7 or 8 at a time, and through the entire fight my GSH just tanked and killed. While I was running back he just took them out one at a time. He was a machine. That cemented my prefernce for this fearsome looking spider. I only wish BE came with their skin with this patch.
The combo is with the mountain krevol(cl25), also ranged with poison and dizzy. They are the best HEK on kinetic of all the 25 or lower pets making them a great combo with GSH. They are also responsive and aggressive in a fight, mine have never run.
Post-patch, I will be working to build a nice combo (~25 + ~45) under the new system, a single CL60+ big gun, and a CL50 heavy hitter to pair with a dewback or other mounts. This will be my start. As the flexibility of BE shows itself I will get more situation specific combos.
I am really looking forward to the patch although the GSH is taking a hit in the resists department. Perhaps we will be able to put together a similar pet with some additional vulnerabilities and a higher kinetic to fill the PvE role in the 45 CL category.
Sorry BE's for continuing this. Remember its us CH'ers who are your best customers. And i own a few BE made pets I rather love. So this kind of post should help you see what it is we are looking for.
And as for the GSH. I got mine near the Nightsister Cave on Dathomir
Grelgen, you are getting a bit insulting. If you do not like the topic, please stay out.
I brought the topic up because I like to learn. I do not feel that you can become a good BE without understanding creatures. They can nerf the Graul Mauler, but they can not nerf the knowledge you acquire.
This is a lesson about "kinetic", "CL", "Strong Poison", "damage", "melee vs range", fighting characteristics and such.
And BTW, I do enjoy the posts above. I own a Graul Mauler and can hunt for a whole evening and just use a stim or 2 fighting Rancors and such. And yes, perhaps I am a dummy, but I was surprised the Graul did so poorly, that is why I posted.
I am a good BE and i know my stuff
G_DPS = Graul damage/speed
S_DPS = Spider damage/speed
((G_DPS/2)*.6) < ((S_DPS/2)*.25)
The disease/poison was incedental. A cl44 animal is supposed to beat a cl34 animal. It all comes down to numbers. The fact that the graul runs around like a little girl is also unimportant because it is still doing the same damage to what ever it is fighting.
That the gsh won doesn't surprise me in the least. They're mean little buggers, and armor and kinetic resist has never been the end-all of even unassisted pet vs pet fights.

What I wonder is whether our new 'skins' we put on pets post-patch will cause the creature's AI to become as that of that particular creature (ie, skin it as a graul, it runs from combat all the time like 'normal' pet grauls do) or what...
Grauls don't actually run from combat. What's really happening is the mob you sent your graul after is fleeing from the graul because it's so freak'n big. However, the lag causes it to appear as those your pet is the one fleeing. That's happens a lot with the largest pets and one of the reasons I stopped using large pets. I got tired of them scaring the target away.
This is also caused when your pet and it's target have different optimal ranges. So if one has an optimal range of 4 meters but the other has it at 10 meters, the oen with 10 meters is always goign to appear to be fleeing when in fact it's just trying to get the bet hit in it can, but the creature with only 4 meter optimal is trying to close in. So one is trying to close in while the other is trying to get some elbow room. Unfortunately this ends up turning into a chase where you have to keep telling the pet to attack so it'll just fight at wohatever range it is as logn as it can hit, call the pet back or chase the pet and it's target, usually ending up far enough from your mission lair that it resets.
