Thread: POLL: Ethical or not?

Ok, so we know two things really.

1. The devs know they are going to nerf the uber pets again, they just won't say when. (See CL 10 Creatures - Still too muchstickied thread).

2. 8K - 10K HAMs are about the best CL10'sBE's are making.

Knowing those two facts, it is definitely safe to assume that they will be nerfed someday.

My question is, do you think it is ethical to sell these pets to a customer without informing them of the upcoming nerfage?

A simple yes or no will do fine for this poll, but of course you are free to explain your position.

Thanks!

Yes...although I dont...2 reasons...we have NO IDEA when the nerf will occur (most likely months)...we have no idea what will be a valid pet & what will not be a valid pet (some are obvious but others aren't)

I always sell my cl10s with a disclaimer that I cannot be held responsible for the nerfage of pets. Everyone I sell to I make aware that nerfage is always a possibility. I do however guarantee that pets can be tamed at their current stats at time of purchase. Beyond that I will not take responsibility. On a side note... I do not market the "uber" cl10s that are going rampant.

No, it is not ethical to sell these creations without a disclaimer. That is why I do not sell them without a disclaimer. I make it clear before the purchasethat one year or one week down the road, I am not going to give refunds if their animal gets the nerf bat. The customer is then free to make the purchase or not.

No, i don't think its ethical to sell a pet that could become "invalid" tomorrow or next year without letting the person purchasing the pet know that this could happen. I decided to stop selling Non CH pets when i had a LVL 7 with 1k HAM, 30-40 damage and "poop" for resist go invalid on the person purchasing this pet. When this person was asked to change the lvl or stats, that's when i decided to stop sellin these pets until something is fixed with the system. Just my thoughts -=Zy=-

Glad to see the majority of us feel that selling these pets is not ethical. I will not make them or sell them period. It is wrong, these pets are a loophole that we know was not intended and it is up to the integrity of each BE personally to inform your customers if you are making and selling them that they could become invalid, nerfed or go <poof> at any time. Anything less than this is simply not right. Put yourself in the shoes of your customer, how would you feel, how would you like ot be treated? That to me is the best way to judge the fairness of your actions.

If the pet in question is obviously borderline or worse. Such as an 8-10K ham one. They yes the seller if he insists on selling SHOULD (IMO) give a warning.

For the Dasher/pup type pets I personally think they are about right and therefore sell pet's of this spec without any warning.

I always use a disclaimer just for reputations sake, but think about it for a second. Should I really have to? Do you think that most of the players out there are complete newbs? A LOT of the people playing today were playing when they nerfed the Class 15s. Nearly everyone in the game is aware that a Spat or Kaduu is your typical Class 10 creature. The people who can afford these or specifically search them out have been playing the game long enough to KNOW that a 10K/8K/5K Class 10 is probably too good to be true. Consumers should research large purchaces before diving into them as well, and it's not too hard to look up something like that on these boards.

It's not like being some pet/crack dealer hanging at the newbie spawns trying to squeeze that 1000 creds and a melon out of them for an uber pet that will get nerfed tomorrow. These pets have been around and legal since at least late January/Early February (look at the date of the first post of the above mentioned sticky) Thats 3-4 months that we have been telling the devs about them, and asking the devs what there opinion is on them. Thats also 3 months that some people have had them, which is longer than my Probot had armor. Ithasalso been3-4 months of this same exact debate.

That's a long time to hear people yelling "The sky is gonna fall. Just wait. You'll see...... Any second now......"

The question had nothing to do with how long these pets might be legal. Wrong is wrong whether it gets changed tomorrow or in a year. While you are right that a person should research a large purchase many people don't. Utimately it is up to each of us to decide whether to do what we individually think is right. I don't think anyone is going to get banned for making and sellin 10k ham cl10's. But remember it is your own repuatation as a honorable player you are risking. Forsome people ... they couldn't care less it is just a game, but i feel playing fairly is important.

BE is the only profession that has this ethical quandary...the basic fact of the matter is there are LOTS of overpowered professions right now. Rifleman/CM, TKA, there are lots of well-known professions that are grossly overpowered compared to all the others. Even among crafter professions, it isnt considered "wrong" if a WS figures out a way to craft a really powerful rifle; rather, they're applauded for their ingenuity and their products command a high sum.

BE right now is simply on the upswing of the Nerf Wave right now. It might come crashing down at any time, but I dont see anything morally wrong with riding it out while it lasts, anymore so than it was morally wrong for stackers to stack before the stack nerf. Everyone knew the devs didnt want people to be able to stack mods to the point of godhood, but asidefrom those who just used it to be asses in PvP no one said their souls were damned. When it comes down to it, uber pets dont hurt anyone, except maybe CH who cant find a market for tamed wild pets anymore, but even at the best of times BE pets are supposed to be superior to wild pets. All the uber pets are doing is helping people be more powerful and successful in the game - people for the most part who arent "complete" in that they've mastered all their profs and amassed a great sum of money and items and badges, people that have to compete with the uberleet who've played since beta and havehad the advantage of riding several Nerf Waves past, like the old pet system and pre-nerf pistoleer.

Exploits, hacking, duping, CHEATING is wrong because it gives some an unfair advantage over others. Uberpets are available to everyone that has a few credits. And they're perfectly legalin the system right now, a system I might add will NEVER be "complete" and totally balanced- the Nerf Bat will never be retired. You'll never hear AS complaining that other AS are making comp with stun too high, so what exactly do these BEs have against making high-level pets?
