Thread: Don't we need a little more +creature knowledge.
Ya, ya it's a ranger/scout skill mod. It doesn't do them near as much good as it would us.
I would think that a proffesion that can create creatures and manipulate their DNA would have more creature knowledge than a hunter.
I'd like to be able to see the lvl of the creature im sampling at least.
What do you say correspondant?
Don't agree. Things like their CL ratings, specials, damage and chance to hit ect.. can all be determined from taking a dna sample. Also there is another thing in that the tracking skills line is actually very very handy for rangers, if you want to put it another way a ranger/scout understands the nature of the animals by hunting them and learning about them in their natural environment. A bio-engineer on the other hand focusses entirely on their biology. Put into real life terms, you don't need to be a naturalist or a zoologistto become a veternarian however that extra experience would help you to become a better vet.
/disagree with original post
/agree with Tal-N
The fact that I'm an MBE climbing the ranger tree has absolutely no bearing on my opinion. Hehe.
I'll have to disagree. All info we need (minus CL) is in the DNA samples.
However what I REALLY want to see it some +Mask Scent in the DNA Sample tree!
Im going to assume that when you said all those things can be determined, that you meant something else besides the DNA flat out listing them. I'm new toBE I'll give you the benefit of the doubt(such a high post count and all). ![]()
And if we assume you're correct then what is the difference? If we can already determine those things what's the harm in just listing them flat out?
I've been a ranger 2 times now, master once, and it was rare when I used that skill mod. As far as I can tell it's filler, rarely useful for hunting. Of course I wasn't a BE then.
Sure some of the stuff is usefull to hunters, like DB or not. But you get that knowledge at the scout lvl. I guess specials knowldge/damage is usefull.
Comparing BE with real life professions doesn't really work for me. BE's are workingin intimate detail IE aggresion/mental profiles, not just thier biology.
I don't want to get into a hole super geek war over that, but if someone asked me whohad the most +creature_knowledge in real life ,a real good hunter ,or someone who could make their own creature and dictate the way it behaves, wellI wouldn'tsay the hunter.
I wouldn't really be bothered if the devs took your stance though. But I would think CH's would have the most +creature knowledge by your standards. Maybe they should give all the creature behavioral knowledge to CH's and Biological knowledge to BE's. But leaving the scout tree alone, that would spread things pretty thin.
Bottom line for me is......
If wecan determine whatmost of the stats will be on a creature, we should be able to see such stats.
I agree that it would be nice to see the CL but that would take away from the already hurting Ranger Class. I contract aMaster Ranger to go out with me. What I get for his services is - Tracking creatures (of course), the CL of any creatureswe see (I keep this recorded in /notepad), and he also carries home about 75 dna samples for me when my inv/backpack fills up.
With a little effort, I have a very extensive list of creature data in /notepad. There are very few creatures I run into that I don't have the important, to BE's, data I need to know.
Do your Ranger Friends a favor and hire them to do what they do best. Everybody wins and its not like we don't have the cash to pay them ![]()
I'm going to agree.
Personally I think skills should bleed thru in alot of professions. Medics / Doctors / Combat Medics / Bio Engineers should have the survey line inside of their professions. Mask Scent and Creature Knowledge are another example of a skill set that to me, should be inside of the BE tree because it is part of what we do. Heh how do we magically look at a DNA sample and see all those numbers /chuckle... yet we can't look at a critter and know. "Whoa, this grizzly bear has a stunning strike gene Igor!".
One of the things that makes me chuckle about Creature Knowledge is that it is a skill I can Alt+Tab and go to a website (or my personal database) and I get skill points for absolutely free. That suggest to me: what's the point of annoying me? Thats all it is.. an annoyance having to alt+tab, breaking immersion.
I doubt it will ever happen... but the vet vs ranger arguement is very very weak.
I agree just like I've agreed about the same thing for CHs. Too bad it won't happen. Ranger is next to useless right now except for tracking.
So considering they have such a low number of skills I doubt they are going to give one up. The biggest problem I have with this, is that because of the internet and all the fan sites the only advantage a Ranger has with this skill is time. Anyone can go to a few web pages and get any info they want. The same info that a Master Ranger gets.
But again I don't see it happening unless the entire Ranger Tree is redone.
I disagree. I agree with Tal-N. If its really ultra-important, you can take a DNA sample and find all you need to know except CL. If you really need to see CL then you can go and get master scout, which gives you the +10 you need over Hunting IV to see CL on things without all the skill points for ranger. If you don't want to do that, then there are a multitude of sites you can go to find said CL ratings.
OT: I think I've known Tal-N for a while if he's the same guy that posted at the Planet Black and White forums, and he has a good head on his shoulders even if he is a little forceful with what comes out of it. ![]()
