I've been with SWG single before day one, the same goes for BE to be honest. This being my first MMO I assumed that this is what to expect from such a game, that this is really as good as it gets and having gaping flaws in the gameplay, design and such was an inherant part of the MMO genre... then City of Heroes was released and I have to say that Sony needs to take a leaf out of NCsoft's book. Over a year has passed that I have known this game and frankly its still very shakey, its starting to look like the devs shouldn't have focussed on more and more content and should have instead focussed on buildinga firm foundation before adding additional content. The crafting is very good but there's only so many times that you can make a clone or a blaster before it gets tedious. I have been to every planet and seen everything and everyone that I can solo, I would be encouraged to group with people except that the combat system really doesn't rung my chimes and after playing CoH I know that it is truely very very weak so I've lost interest in that aspect of the game too.

So whats left, well not much until this combat pass comes into play. The space expansion is what I always lookd forwards too and since I was silly enough to pay for 6 months in advance this account isn't going to just go poof. Nothing is improving with any of the professions in my opinion, the really good idea of the 19 questions simply isn't comung to fruition and TH who once gave me hope that communication between the devs and the community would improve has lost all of that zeal he had at first and simply isn't doing his job anymore in my opinion.

I'll stop by from time to time to see if anything is geting better, if anyone else is playing City of heroes feel free to contact me on the Protector server under the name Tal-N. I've registered a supergroup/guild called The Forgotten and will be working to build it into a nicely close knit group of regular players if anyone wants to join in. But as for SWG I will have to say...

Cya later.

Well, good luck to you. I find it ironic that you're leaving a game you say has no content for one with no content at all other than endless combat, but the bottom line is that you have fun. You're input here will certainly be missed.

Let me correct your initial assumption... This is how SOE MMO's are. Most other companies take time to work out game play affecting bugs before releasing it. If you want a game with content and amazing gameplay... just hold your pants for WoW.

you know if all the hype around WoW and everyone just foaming at the mouth thinking its going to be released and not suffer bugs like every other MMOG has at release, it going to be very interesting when the reality stick starts swinging.

I am not saying there won't be bugs... but I am saying my faith in Blizzard is that it will be free of gameplay bugs that make the game unplayable. Blizzard has a great trackrecord, even with online games.... They take a lot of time to develop and TEST good software before releasing it. Something that thus far, SOE hasn't done. WoW hasa lot of hype, b/c Blizzard has a big base of loyal customers, that know what to expect. And honestly if Blizzard fails to follow through... they will lose a ton of respect with Hardcore gamers, something they don't want to do.

No company is perfect, and while I kow SOE works its butt off to release a good product... I think the priorities of the company are not in the right place... And I can tell you from previous experience, that SOE seriously needs to rethink its business plan... b/c if they continue to release games like PlanetSide and SWG, in the state they are released.... the massive following from Evercrack will eventually die off and SOE will start to feel it in the pocket books.

For me, as of right now, the game isn't unplayable... and I actually think there is a ton of content to it... I enjoy the game quite a bit and when I find that I am getting bored, there is always something that I can find to do that I haven't yet... while I have been playing the game for a long time, I only get in about 3 hours a day on the weekdays.... and only a few a week... but still....

OK I am rambling... my point was made... hat eto see good people leave, but sometimes it just happens

There hasn't been a single game EVER, that's been released that hasn't had bugs in it - at least a game that's complicated anyway. And I'm not talking about some cheesy gamelike pong, that doesn't count. People who think COH or WOW is going to be way better than SWG are going to have a big eye opening. I betafter about 2-3 months of playing those new games, people will start realizing the game's not as good asthey thought it was. The funny thingis, SWG isn't even a year old. I think next month it will be a year old. Anyway, just think of what the game started out as compared to where it is now. It's 100% better now compared to when it came out. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm excited to see what's in store for the next year.

The word on WoW is that while the hopes for great and bug-free gameplay are high based on Blizzard's reputation, there is a LOT of work yet to be done before they get it to that stage. One thing Blizzard does have going for it is that they listen to their beta testers, so they stand a good chance of catching many, if not most, of the serious bugs before release.

It's always a trade-off ; get the game into the public's hands before they get tired of waiting and make another choice, or your development funding runs out vs testing and reworking things to get the bugs out first. SOE leans one way on this choice, Blizzard the other, but both have to deal with it.

Tal-N I understand how you feel and I'll miss your insights here. Enjoy CoH, if that is where you go, and look in from time to time, if only to see how stubborn the rest of us remain. Wherever you go, the player community will benefit from your intelligence and consideration, and you'll make a difference.

Also, Blizzard has a track record of delaying release dates based on the state of the game. Whereas Sony thought that a delay in releasing SWG would hurt the bottom line, Blizzard understood their player base (in regards to previous games), and their player base's expectations, and basically said, "Do you want a buggy, 'ok' game right now or do you want a great game when it's truly finished?" Blizzard even scrapped an entire game (Warcraft Adventures) because it wasn't working.

Bottom line is that based on reputation, the market is willing to wait for Blizzard because they know that they're waiting for a good reason. Sure, there will be bugs, tweaks, and patches, but the "out of box" experience for WoW should be exceptional. At least that's what we're expecting based on past history.

Having said all that, I'm not willing to abandon SWG just yet. I love the franchise and the vast potential of the game. I love the fact that it's one of the few good Sci-Fi MMOs out there. If WoW is a blast to play at release, I'm not sure I'm going to be willing to pay 2 $15.00 monthly fees, though.

Well I have a feeling Jump to Lightspeed will be a hell of an expansion... I played Planetside for a long time, and SOE learned a ton from it. I expect they will take a lot from the air combat poritions of planet side and throw them into JLS. SOE is all about getting stuff out by a deadline.... And that is how most of Sony customers like it... so yeah.. they do what is expected... but I suspect JLS will have a bit better launch than SWG itself did

One thing to remember too is that Blizzard pays their own development and only is answerable to themselves. Sony (in the case of SWG) was in partnership with LA and therefore wasn't in complete control.

Now, back on topic. You'll be missed Tal. If you were playing on Pinnacle I'd say hi. Good luck in your next adventure and hopefully we'll see you after the SE.

Blizzard has an excellent reputaion no doubt. Their games also have an amazing shelf life for this industry and I've thoroughly enjoyed Starcraft and all versions of Warcraft (Stop poking meeee, Gimme sompin ta kill, Me so Horned, me kill you long time.) This is their first MMO, however, so it will be interesting to see how well they pull it off. I'm not sure I'll be one of hte ones to jump on it at release, the graphics seem a bit cartoonish for me and I've never really been drawn to that in an MMO. Just seems it would kill immersion for me, but that's just a personal preference.
