It's not broken, but it doesn't work exactly as advertised either. First the pet must be fairly mature. I'm not sure at what percentage grown they need to be, but I have yet to see a young baby do a special in any case, but I have found many start doing them after reaching an older age. Secondly, I find that the special attack commands only work when the pet is not in combat yet. I find that if I send a pet into combat with a special attack command it will faithfully use the attack as commanded, but only that first time unless I call it out of battle and send it back in again with another special attack command. Think of the special attack command as just a different way to send a pet into battle. Using this work around I get consistant results of pets using specials more or less on command (although this doesn't guarentee the specials will stick, you may need to call a pet from battle and send it back in a few times before it sticks, although you will see the attempt each time).

Is there a message or something? Or what do you mean by "see the attempt"? Just curious cause I have had less than stellar luck with these new commands.

There have been many threads on the topic. Use search to see them all.

Here is what you need to know...

Specials do work if you make a macro with follow target and then special attack.

You can tell they work because when your pet makes an attack the name of the attack will flash over his head... Also if it lands it will show up on the target (I hope you all know this stuff by now).

A few moves don't show up... such as open wounds, but enough do that I can tell my commands are working just fine.

Yeah it is obvious when someone in the group or one of the pets lands a special... I was just wondering if there was something other than the fleeting chance of catching the words over the critters head... or something more specific to the CH when the pet attempts.

I normally fight in a large group with lots of pets... so I am not going to see something like that (the glimpse of special attack word over my pets head) most of the time. I will try it out solo though and see if it works.

It appears over the pets head too. Not just the target. But no there is no other way. I only solo so its not an issue for me.

Hi there,

I am a MBE/CH and I have been having trouble getting pets to do their special attacks on command. It seem both my bioengineered pets and the pets I've tamed in the wild rarely ever do their special attacks on command. Any help or insight into this would be greatly appreitated.

Thanks,

WolfGuy

I too have had issues with specials occuring. I think it is widely understood to be broken.

I have noticed that the old style pets will not listen to the /tellpet command. I have 4 new BE pets and they obey the /tellpet command successfully. I finally got back to a level where I can use my old TMB, tamed before pre-patched.It didn't obey the /tellpet commands until I retrained the commands on him.
