Whena pet has ranged attack, when does he use it? Does he only use it when the target is too far away or will he only use ranged?

When the fight starts, he will use ranged. He will then move to melee distance after fireing several times.

Also keep in mind that not all creature templates can use the ranged attack. If the creature does not have a rnaged attack in the wild, it still will not have a ranged attack even if you put a DNA template with ranged attack in the recipe. This is evident if you are or have a Master CH to train it for you, they will not be able to train it for the ranged attack even if it was in the DNA template.

I belive that a CH useing the "Use Ranged" command will make it stay at ranged unless the criter closes on it. for any other situation it works just as described above, except when the pet AI tweeks out and forgets it has a ranged attack and always rushes to melee till you store/recall.

It's random. Sometimes it won't use it at all, other times it will use it until the creature or NPC is right on top of it. If the creature or NPC aggros onto the master, the pet might continue to use ranged.
AFAIK, special and ranged attacks still don't work on command.

What creature template should I use so the creature will have a ranged attack? I tried using 5 spineflap guard DNA and those DNA have a ranged attack. i put it into a Dalyrake template and i tried to get a master creature handler to teach the command for its' ranged attack.The master creature handler said that it couldn't be taught the command. I am wondering if there is a template that would use ranged attacks or is the MCH lying
? He also said that the creature will do the ranged attack on its' own.

Ranged attack is bugged right now. Pets will naturally do a ranged attack though. Its very accurate but hits for a little less.

The MCH does not get the Ranged attack teach command that is listed in their skills page. Any pet with a ranged attack will use it by defalt until the Mob gets into Hand to Hand. The ranged attack does not do less damage. In the last patch a new bug was created that causes the pet to try to move to best attack range. The problem.... Your pet will move the mob will move to counter... End result pet flees at full speed trying to check range to target. Pets with ranged do not run off... I no longer sell pets without a ranged attack until this bug is fixed.

think that master CH's can teach this command
might be bugged though.... who knows, so many bugs in the game still

Hello,
Iam Master CH on Bloodfin and can train all commands what can learn a Pet but range wouldnt work after teaching my pets know this command but when i say range then they dont use them 
No idea why.
