Thread: The uber CL10

All that pet is good for is tanking anyhow.
Compared to the monsters I could command as an MCH, especially superkimo's and bada$$ rancors, these little pets pale in comparison. They don't do alot of damage, they don't have good HAM balance (usually much lower action and mind) and are vulnerable to everything except kinetic.
CH can have a Kimo tank stormtroopers, atst's, etc and actually dish out some serious damage.
You are wrong sir!
In case you havent noticed that pretty much all MCH pets are good for
Kinetic and Energy are THE resists in PvE everything else dosent come into play 99% of the time I'll admit that these things dont tank stormies to well but they do tank creatures pretty good.
Kimos are useless because of the idea range issue that makes them run
/rofl..............Serious damage he says*doubles over laughing* what game have you been playing? (Yes I am a MCH and have been for several months now)
CH can do a max of around 650, but that damage gets no specials, is AP0, and kinetic on top of allthat (pet ranged attacks do energy though) against something with ar1 and 1% kinetic that is reduced to 325 and against any type of high end content with AR3 thats reduced to 163 damage right off the batnow throw in 90% resists and you come out with a whopping 16 damage. If your pet gets intimidated that number drops to 8. Yea thats real serious damage right there................

I am against overpowered CL10 pets for three reasons: business ethics, negative effect on combat grinding and uselessness of CH pets.
Business: These pets have been sold for a record of 2m credits. Although most of them get sold at around the 500k mark, these pets are seen as a quick money making scheme and certainly puts a bad light on BEs. It's not bad enough that the chefs hate us for not dropping to our knees and worshipping them that we have a string of PvPers and rich kids asking us for nothing but uber cl10 pets for tanks. This just adds to impression that we are schematic monkeys. I've seen people take up this profession JUST to make these pets.
Combat Grinding: Jedi and other professions (mainly ranged ones) use these pets as versatile tanks. While there is nothing wrong with that - these pets do their jobs too well. It sounds quite silly but I feel that the pets should take more damage then they do and that they are just used as an easy way out so that jedi and grinders dont have to worry about taking damage themselves. Plus it has a small negative effect on our pet stim business.
CHs: The fact remains that the only difference in the tanking abilities between a CH pet and a non-ch pet is that they can have light armour and varied resists. There is no improvement on the kinetic or energy resists. The cap for any pet is 60/60 in kinetic/energy. So the only difference between a CL10 and a CL70 is the the light armour. I think to change this, to make CH pets more effective tanks than non-chs there should either be a cap on the resistances of non-ch pet or an increase in the cap of kinetic resistances in CH pets.
ArthurDentOnBria wrote:Here is my main objections to them:1. The fact that there is a bug in the CL calculation creates a situation where the *only* way to create a competitive pet is to exploit the bug. Just try to create a competitive pet in the CL 1-25 range without using dna from a merek. I dare ya. I double dare ya. It dumbs down the process.2. It simply does not scale, causing all sorts of imbalancesCL 10 pet: 10k HAM, 60% kinetic 0% energy AR0, 100 damage: market value: 500k, skill points spent: 0CL 12 pet: 10k HAM, 60% kinetic 0% energy AR0 150 damage: market value: 60k, skill points spent: 49CL 14 pet: 10k HAM, 60% kinetic 0% energy AR0 200 damage: market value: 60k, skill points spent: 54...CL 24 pet: 10k HAM, 60% kinetic 0% energy AR1 200 damage: market value: 70k, skill points spent: 63...see the problem? Not only is dabbling in CH foolish under such conditions, but making any pets other than the CL 10 pets is equally foolish from the BE standpoint. Because in all those pets I list above, the dna in all of them is more or less identical. Why put your 5 dna samples into a pet that is going to turn out CL 14 when you can put it into a CL 10 and charge 10x more for it? Similarly what rational person decides that they want to spend 49 skill points just to get a pet that does 50 points higher damage, and then not being able to find a BE willing to make such a pet for under a million credits because that is what they get for a CL 10 using the same dna?
You have to question whether this is an issue with Non-CH Pets, or the state of the CH profession?
We have been here many times before, and still nothing has happened about it in a year so there is little point in bringing this up every fortnight.
As for what Arthur said, I completely disagree with this being a bug. This is not a 'bug'. This is an unexpected use of a perfectly normal system. The reason that MH plays a vital role in 99% of Lower CL pets is becuase, wait for it, IT IS THE ONLY SAMPLABLE CREATURE IN THE GAME WITH MORE THAN 70% Kin RESISTS! (Sorry for shouting) combine this with the fact that the rest of its resists are almost non existant, and it becomes almost a necessity to use. This does not mean that using the DNA is 'exploiting', or making use of a bug...it is just that the effects of using this DNA were never provisioned for in the calculation...this is not a bug, or buggy behaviour as it follows the CL calculation, it is simply an unexpected development.
We have pushed the envelope furthur than the Devs intended/expected, but then how can they be expected to test everything for all possible outcomes in such a complex system...it is unreasonable to provision for this.
The quote from the Dev Communication thread almost says exactly what I say but in less detail:
"Keldarin's answer was:
These pets are more powerful than level 10 cloned pets are intended to be. I would not go so far as saying that players who made these "cheated" however."
Im not going to get into the ethics of these pets as most of you probably know where I stand, however these pets are not exploits, they are simply unexpected. This does not make them right or wrong to make, but it does mean that BEs are not 'cheating' by making them. what worries me is that when these get nerfed, as they innevitably will, who will get the blame for the broken pets lying around?
In a profession whose main source of income is to be a schematic monkey or making pets for that rare creature handler that knocks on your dor.... you guys are awfully picky. What about the attachments that sell for 10s of millions of credits....exceptional weapons that 1-hit kill...90% resistant armor... doctor buffs... super chef foods. these are game-breaking, not silly PVE pets.
Mounts are dead. CH are rare. Chefs have BE alts.
I use to mass-produce these pets until I found out that they were scheduled to be nerfed. I no longer make them in large numbers... only for special requests after informing the customer of the future of CL10 pets. No one cares. They want them, they buy them, they're happy, and I'm happy for getting to make pets. Why can't you guys just accept this and let the subject die. These things are unbalanced, but they're not game breaking like 50 other things in the game. It breathes life into our profession. It gives people a reason to have a mount. It gives people reason to send you an email.
EDIT: I just wanted to add this. Do you know how easy of a fix this would be? Just give Merek Harvester 30% Resistance to cold until they figure out what the root of the problem is.

True, true. And I love making pets for CH. It's a nice challenge and they're always pleasant to talk to.
Spazzers wrote:CH's are my friends. I make them +1688 pet stim D's and they are happy. I don't make the uber CL10's even though I know how. They like me for that. I go home and play snappy movement and see if it makes me barf.Bye bye now.
So far my keyboard is barf-free, I haven't worked out what the big problem is yet.
