I did it
CL9 Durni with Armor
I posted last week in a different thread that I had managed to make a CL1 pet (CL1 Durni) and after I made that I started to wonder what else I could make. I had read other people's tests that seemed to show that adding armor during experimentation added +8 to the CL, and I wondered if I can make a CL1 pet then I might be able to make a CL <10 pet with armor.
The CL1 pet took only 2 generations to achieve and this CL9 Armored pet took an additional 2 generations. I used MDH to help get the light armor without the risk of getting resists.
G1 = My secret!!
~CL9 w/ vuln to all resists
G2 = MDH - MDH - G1 - G1 - G1 CL1
G3 = MDH - MDH - G2 - G2 - G2 ~CL13 gains light armor
G4 = G3 - G3 - G2 - G2 - G2 CL9 w/ armor
Note: I was also able to make some sweet non-ch damage pets with 350+ damage with a G2 variation (still vuln to all), and 400+ damage with a G3 variation.
Of course, I realise that a non-CH pet with armor and vuln to all is fairly pointless because they cancel each other out. So this led me to my next pet project: see if I can push a pet with armor AND some kinetic resist that isn't vuln and still get at or below CL10. My first attempt brought me very close and I feel confident that my goal is attainable. So far I managed to make this:
CL12 Armored pet with +18 Kinetic SP
That pet was many many generations, but that was only because I was just resampling my near-miss pets from before and was too lazy to start over with a G1 pet. (I tend to keep all my failed target attempt pets to see how I can use their DNA, I end up with some weird results that are almost never reproducable, lol). But, looking back over my CL9 Armor pet's "family tree" I can already see some places where I can squeeze in some more room for that kinetic resist. I've been up too late tonight as it is, so this is something I'll have to pick up later, but I plan to continue working on my theoretical CL10 armored with with Kinetic resist.
I'm not sure how practical these tests may prove to be, but it is an interesting exercise for me. If I can keep these pets down to 4 generations or less then I may end up with something that is marketable. We'll see how it all turns out

So that would that tell us taht ligth armor actually adds about 8 levels instead of 10? This is, at the very least, greatly informative. GJ

Absolutely amazing. You put my work to shame
I had always suspected that both were achievable (although I had thought that 60% kin/ar1/cl2 was also achievable). So here's a pat on the back from me because that is truly brilliant work. I will amend the research list once GarVa unlocks my post.

Congratulations
So, as we thought, Non-CH with AR1 is possible, but it does raise other questions...If the difference between a Non-CH tank, and a Triplet is simply that of AR1 with a couple more resists then now the gap has been narrowed even furthur. I don't want to get into a debate over the ethics of this, as that can be done in other threads.
This post is to say well done on doing something that I don't think has been done before...even the Mighty Zad could only get to 15 (although Im sure he should have tried with Durnis rather than Dewbacks, and he did have the resists to go with it).
Keep us updated on what you find out with your other experiments

I'm confused
Is the BE pet making guide incorrect? It shows the minimum level of a Durni as 2 but say you made a level 1.
I'd like to see these pets for myself, do you have them dispalyed in your house??

I do have to agree that is a pretty impressive job. My best creature I made so far took about 3 generation samples I couldn't get light armor on him but got 3 good 20 stats on him of kinetic, blast and heat resistance. about 20 to 21 in each.

Very nice job, I'd always wanted to try that.
As far as armor adding levels, well, when you have all vulnerabilities, if the system is working in a reasonable fashion, it should not add any levels at all because the armor is not adding any protection, lol. Most of the time it is assumed when you are talking about armor, that you are talking about at the very least a non-kinetic vulnerability.

The strange thing about this is the G2 pet coming out at CL1, I think it would end up lower if it could. I did some extra experimentation on one pet and it still came out CL1. On another one I experimented aggression with 5 points and it only came out CL3 (Another project of mine, create a very high damage non-CH pet, I'm betting I can break 500dmg). But to get the armored pet and especially for my attempt at armor + kinetic resist I'm keeping the experimentation to a bare minimum.
I have no idea about actually using these pets. I was able to tame that CL9 armored pet, but since I am not a CH nor did I take the time to find one in my excitement, the pet has no commands and just stands there looking pretty. But he's on my datapad and come out when I call it.
I'll be in my lab doing more experiments later, so more to follow

I'd like to see these freaks of nature first hand, especially the CL1 pet. Are they dispalyed in your house?
