Thread: Clone skin minimum CL / aggressiveness rating Version 3.0

This is the third version of this post and I wasn't able to produce anything in the 3rd run thru the cloning list to alter any data. Figured i might as well clean this post up into a final version. Unless we find a way to experiment the aggressive trait out of a clone, I won't be spending much more time running thru the cloning lists.

What does Sumo mean by Minimum CL?

We usually refer to a creature / clone / pet as having a CL. This is, effectively, the "Level" of the creature. The higher the number, the harder the creature should be to kill / control. For me CL is shorthand for Challenge Level, though Control Level or Challenge Rating (CR) mean the same thing.

Each clone appears to have a minimum value for CL. Meaning that even if you use the worst possible DNA you can find, the CL on the Clone won't drop below the Minimum. Kimogilas are a good example, as even a 100HAM Kimogila is STILL rated at CL40.

What is Aggressiveness?

Aggressiveness is a trait that we can NOT see on the clone itself. In order to see the Aggresive: Yes or Aggressive: No, characteristic you have to tame the clone and then examine the actual clone like you would a wild animal. Every creature is either Aggressive: Yes, or Aggressive: No.

One of the factors used to determine if a person can tame an animal is Aggressiveness. To be able to control these creatures you have to have the Taming Vicious Creatures skill. Most importantly, Non-Creature Handlers do NOT have this skill. So if the creature skin they want for their pet is rated Aggressive: Yes, then a Non-CH will not be able to tame or accept the pet in a transfer.

We are not certain if this was purposeful. Hopefully we have an answer from BE Dev soon about this. My personal opinion is that it was purposeful to restrict some skins to being used only by Creature Handlers. If it was purposeful, hopefully this trait will be added to the Pet Deed on examination.

How do I use this listing?

To try to ease figuring out what is aggressive and what isn't, I"ve listed "aggressive" after the aggressive pets and color coded the list also. Reds are aggressive, Greens are not.

Hopefully this list will help you avoid blunders like making a kickbutt non-CH pet template, only to discover the creature has a minimum CL of 15.... or worse getting it under CL10 but it being an aggressive skin keeping the non-CH from taming it.

Odd that the hermit spider and the merek are passive. I mean i know that the hermit spider body is also used for nightspiders who are passive but then again the Angler body is used for Arachne hatchlings too which are passive. Anyone ever seen a passive merek at all?

I found the Merek to be the biggest surprise also. I can't think of a non-aggressive Merek. The others (Bordok, Angler, Hermit Spider,et al) do have non-aggressive counterparts in the wild like you point out. I"d post my exact words when I saw the Merek was non-aggressive but they'd get *edit*'d heheh.

Hermit Spiders are an odd case. They are actually aggressive, but... you can tame an agressive hermit spider in the wild, still transfer it to a non-ch and they can control it.

Kind of along the same note what about DB's in a clone I've made a cl69 Gurreck with no DB so just curious does it have to ge agrressive to get a DB?

Maybe "aggressiveness" is not always equal to "vicious". They are almost same but not exactly same. Now this would need some experiments with low level critters that are Aggressive.

Crazed Durni ARE vicious

Shaupauts?

Oh! By the Way! Also CH cannot control Vicious Creature until they get Taming II Skill box. (unless there was a change in the new system that i missed totally)

Aggressive verses Vicious... aggressive shows up as a red dot on radar and will most likely attack... vicious creatures are creatures that Deathblow... I believe Ferocity plays a part in this but I'm not sure to what extent. Anyway that is how I have found it to be... and I am curious if anyone has found anything to the contrary.

My guess (after having tamed who knows how many creatures and now having sampled just about as many) is yes - but not always. My take is that, if the creature is aggressive but has low ferocity, it doesn't death blow (this is an assertion without any hard evidence since I haven't kept a close track, so I won't be upset by counter examples ).

I'll think about rewording my explanation of what aggressiveness does because there are factors like DB / ferocity to wonder about too.

If one of y'all is feeling frisky and isn't a CH (both my characters have CH skills as do all my friends), could you run thru the aggressive models that are CL10 and under attempting to transfer them to a non-CH? Also check the Hermit Spider for trasnferability as its the only one that sticks out sorely for non-aggressive.

The Merek, have to ask around to see who doesn't have the taming vicious ability among my friend that would be able to tame a CL25.... prolly no one has that template LOL.
