Thread: BE 'advanced' guide is a joke
Well I've been lurking for quite some time, been working on my TKA/Chef on the TC for a long time now so my attention has been away from the BE community, there's not much happening here anyway plus every topic is something which has been discussed 2 billion times before already so the interest in taking part just isnt there as much anymore. Also as you know with me moving to Orlando to be with my sweetheart my RL has been alot more interesting than any game could be ![]()
You'll probably be seeing me less active in the SWG community as a whole at the end of this month, a new MMO is coming out soon called 'City Of Heroes' which is based around comic book super heroes and such which interests me alot, probably be the first time I actually roleplay a character infact but I think I'll stay out of their forum community for the most part since the game isn't that complex anyway. I'd highly suggest anyone looking for an MMO with a great character creation and combat system to check this out actually when its released at the end of April.
Getting back onto the topic it does indeed seem that TH and the devs in general know far less about bio-engineering than the players themselves, I was shocked to see an 'official' friday feature pull almost all of the content from posts made by fans. For an advanced guide it really only touched onto the more advanced stuff that players have managed to figure out, I thought the purpose of an advanced guide is to even teach veterans something new. I would complain to TH about this but frankly i dont think it will be of any use since most issues with Friday features fall on deaf ears, it took a week after that disaterous 'skill enhancers' feature for TH to realise that the skill tapes and such are severely flawed and mainly broken.

/sigh... tell me about. Half of the posts now are "how do i grind this faster" and people looking for BE's on their server since dedicated BE's seem to be in short supply...
Oh well...
The short version is we don't really understand the algorithm that is used.
Nice to see your still lurking Tal, and grats once again to you and your fiancee.
I took a quick scan of this "guide" when I saw TH's post in DevTracker and though "Great, they finally did it!". I posted a quick grats and headed out to go shopping.
Then I came home and actually read it. It's hard to express how disappointed I actually am in the developers with this. They'd have done better by just posting a link to our FAQ page, as at least some of the "bugs" in the compilation are commented/updated on in there.
I guess there is at least one positive though. Even as it is I actually learned something.
What was it?
That the "little percentage number in the lower right hand side of the crafting window. This number will increase and decrease depending on how you place your experimentation points and represents your chance at a critical failure."
Something to keep an eye on when you get those 5 crits in a row ![]()
Actually I enjoyed how the Writer in the guide basically states that they and no one else seams to know what effects levels or for that matter other things.
Oh yeah and great equations.
They mean nothing.
Since if you dont know what Resists will carry across you cannot use a formula to figure them, becasue you dont know what will cary across in the first place, nor what vaules they will be since as stated they maybe up to 60% lower or possibly higher.
Yeah and also the writeer missed my post.
I didnt create a SHotting Kima, that was made of Gaping Spider DNA.
And I have two creatures with special attacks of UNknown.
One is some area effect poison the other is....I dont know...but it makes myBlurgh after it uses it run away for some reason.
So anywise...A guide full of errors is not advanced in any way except in making a certain Development Team look like Morons for not checking it over.
By the way...City of Heros I was thinking about trying out too.
But FFXI has been consuming my time as of late.
Crafting in FFXI and grwoing plants is alot of fun.
And every month Square/enix does something special.
This last week had this Easter Egg thing....and the month before there was the cherry blossom festival with fireworks.
Nothing comes close to the sparkling Treants though.....to give everyone an Idea of what that was.
They Put his special mission up only for the month of december. Basically anyone who took the mission was suupossed to kill this giant tree thing. So anywise these things where tough...took 3 days of constant play to kill one in a local area to where my character was. Anywise....it took a combined effort of over 800 players on the one I saw.
It was wild.....a huge ring of fighters and melee people surrounded it constantly hitting it, a little further out another huge ring of players these ones shooting or casting magic on it to kill it, and beyond that...all the healers.
I recall seeing over 200 people at one time teaming up to kill the Treant.
Yeah you automatically teamed up when you took the mission, and you got this effect on you that lasted 1 hour of real time.
Anywsie...the thing was, that if all the treants where killed, your server would get a special prize. In this case it was this special telport NPC, that would let you go to places you had been to before for a small cost.
Boy that was the nicest feature added...saves lots of time and headaches...no waiting for a boat or airship or having to travel to a place to get one....no riding a chocobo, just zap you are there.
Encouraged peopel to travel alot, as they didnt want to waste time, and wanted to travel cheap.
On a lighter note,I can say this about the guide.....I think it will keep the BE populace down. Anyone would-be dabbler thatcomesto the site and readsthe BEbreakdown for making petswill surely run for the hills....lol.
I still have job security...lol.
