Thread: BE 'advanced' guide is a joke

When I saw this I quickly went across to look at it since we know this has been a long time coming and we have for a very long time asked for some solid facts on what determines the CL ratings, what is considered acceptable limitations for certain ratings plus a decent answer as to how special attacks are actually worked out. What we ended up with was a rehash of things we already know but with some nice detailing about the math used for things such as resists and such. All very well and good for people who aren't veterns of the community however I have to say we STILL have yet to be given any official information for the most important question of all.. what is the calculations for determining the CL rating?!?!

Needless to say we have been asking for this time and time again and TH said he'd be doing a Friday feature to help explain such things. Well there it is and the question still stands. Just for once I'd like to see something with the BE profession done properly rather than doing a general sweep but missing some of the most important stuff. The CL is a central issue for all clones and there wasn't even a mention in the guide that when sampling animals outside cities you cannot make high level clones. People now wanting to try the profession will be coming in here asking why they can't make a CL70 kimogila with chuba dna.

I really mean no offense by this, and I'll apologize in advance because it's rather pointed. The guide reads like an SOE intern was given three hours to put it together this morning, i.e., "Go read the boards--there're a lot of big brains there that have worked most of this stuff out." Aside from the absence of copy editiing, the repeated use of the word "seems" leads me to believe that this didn't come from a dev at all, simply someone who combed the threads and pieced things together.

Sweet, Tal-N is back. Congrats on the up-coming nuptials btw.

I just can't belive that after all this time, this "guide" is the best they could come up with. Why can't we get ANY feedback from a Dev? DE's (and I'm not flamin' you guys, just using your prof as an example) are getting 3 months worth of updates, with constant feedback from the Devs. We couldn't even get confirmation that this "guide" was even being worked on. TH told the sumgglers about it, but not us. Why can't we get any Dev to talk to us, and answer our most basic questions?

I'm still to livid to really talk about this. Tal-N, again, welcome back to the BE boards. We can really use your help around here. Your posts are allways well thought out, and well presented.

Well I've been lurking for quite some time, been working on my TKA/Chef on the TC for a long time now so my attention has been away from the BE community, there's not much happening here anyway plus every topic is something which has been discussed 2 billion times before already so the interest in taking part just isnt there as much anymore. Also as you know with me moving to Orlando to be with my sweetheart my RL has been alot more interesting than any game could be

You'll probably be seeing me less active in the SWG community as a whole at the end of this month, a new MMO is coming out soon called 'City Of Heroes' which is based around comic book super heroes and such which interests me alot, probably be the first time I actually roleplay a character infact but I think I'll stay out of their forum community for the most part since the game isn't that complex anyway. I'd highly suggest anyone looking for an MMO with a great character creation and combat system to check this out actually when its released at the end of April.

Getting back onto the topic it does indeed seem that TH and the devs in general know far less about bio-engineering than the players themselves, I was shocked to see an 'official' friday feature pull almost all of the content from posts made by fans. For an advanced guide it really only touched onto the more advanced stuff that players have managed to figure out, I thought the purpose of an advanced guide is to even teach veterans something new. I would complain to TH about this but frankly i dont think it will be of any use since most issues with Friday features fall on deaf ears, it took a week after that disaterous 'skill enhancers' feature for TH to realise that the skill tapes and such are severely flawed and mainly broken.

/sigh... tell me about. Half of the posts now are "how do i grind this faster" and people looking for BE's on their server since dedicated BE's seem to be in short supply...

Oh well...

<==== in 100% agreement.

It seems SOE wants to lower any profession relating to pets that aren't droids in any way they can. First it was CH's and now BE's are getting the same treatment.

I think I'm going to have to add onto my sig

P.S.- 5 starred above posts to counter the lamer who's been making rounds on the BE forums with his 1 starring silence.

The short version is we don't really understand the algorithm that is used.

ROFL

the funny thing about this quote is that they tried to pass this off as the documentation promised to us by the developers.

Yeah, I read that and just started laughing. Ugh. I've just given up on cloning all together. I'm a tissue man now. At least I don't have to worry about refunds every new patch or every third clone because it won't call.

Nice to see your still lurking Tal, and grats once again to you and your fiancee.

I took a quick scan of this "guide" when I saw TH's post in DevTracker and though "Great, they finally did it!". I posted a quick grats and headed out to go shopping.

Then I came home and actually read it. It's hard to express how disappointed I actually am in the developers with this. They'd have done better by just posting a link to our FAQ page, as at least some of the "bugs" in the compilation are commented/updated on in there.

I guess there is at least one positive though. Even as it is I actually learned something.

What was it?

That the "little percentage number in the lower right hand side of the crafting window. This number will increase and decrease depending on how you place your experimentation points and represents your chance at a critical failure."

Something to keep an eye on when you get those 5 crits in a row

Actually I enjoyed how the Writer in the guide basically states that they and no one else seams to know what effects levels or for that matter other things.

Oh yeah and great equations.

They mean nothing.

Since if you dont know what Resists will carry across you cannot use a formula to figure them, becasue you dont know what will cary across in the first place, nor what vaules they will be since as stated they maybe up to 60% lower or possibly higher.

Yeah and also the writeer missed my post.

I didnt create a SHotting Kima, that was made of Gaping Spider DNA.

And I have two creatures with special attacks of UNknown.

One is some area effect poison the other is....I dont know...but it makes myBlurgh after it uses it run away for some reason.

So anywise...A guide full of errors is not advanced in any way except in making a certain Development Team look like Morons for not checking it over.

By the way...City of Heros I was thinking about trying out too.

But FFXI has been consuming my time as of late.

Crafting in FFXI and grwoing plants is alot of fun.

And every month Square/enix does something special.

This last week had this Easter Egg thing....and the month before there was the cherry blossom festival with fireworks.

Nothing comes close to the sparkling Treants though.....to give everyone an Idea of what that was.

They Put his special mission up only for the month of december. Basically anyone who took the mission was suupossed to kill this giant tree thing. So anywise these things where tough...took 3 days of constant play to kill one in a local area to where my character was. Anywise....it took a combined effort of over 800 players on the one I saw.

It was wild.....a huge ring of fighters and melee people surrounded it constantly hitting it, a little further out another huge ring of players these ones shooting or casting magic on it to kill it, and beyond that...all the healers.

I recall seeing over 200 people at one time teaming up to kill the Treant.

Yeah you automatically teamed up when you took the mission, and you got this effect on you that lasted 1 hour of real time.

Anywsie...the thing was, that if all the treants where killed, your server would get a special prize. In this case it was this special telport NPC, that would let you go to places you had been to before for a small cost.

Boy that was the nicest feature added...saves lots of time and headaches...no waiting for a boat or airship or having to travel to a place to get one....no riding a chocobo, just zap you are there.

Encouraged peopel to travel alot, as they didnt want to waste time, and wanted to travel cheap.

Cripes need to spell check next time.

I was meaning to say: I did create a shooting Kima.

Which i still have.

And I do have a jax that shoots as well.

So that thing about only certain things will shoot is wrong.

And I did manage to carry some of the specials people say you cannot transfer across to a clone.

Although the game is broken, it lists the special attacks as UNKNOWN.

But anywise the process for creature creation is random and needs to have actual structure, instead of random variables.

Nothing against the Bio-Developer, but come-on.

This is really depressing. Reminds me of being a Hib in DAoC . I used to smirk when I would read complaints of "the devs HATE us!!!" in this game, but now....

Well, I left DAoC because of behavior like this. Don't get me wrong, I'm not planning on quitting SWG any time soon. It took two years of constant neglect and basically being called a bunch of whiners by the PR contact, andabout a year of playing a class with no less than 30 (and, at one point, approaching 100) *game stopping* bugs before I quit that game. SOE isn't nearly that bad yet, but I see them traveling down that path now. I don't like the way this is headed.

I wasterribly let down by this BE Adv guide. I wasdesperately hoping for an explanation to the CL....maybe even a slight hint orclue. Nothing.....zip....zilch....and more of the same old stuff.

I think most would agree that there are some very smart devs that help put the BE profession together. Honestly, all sarcasm aside, who are these devs that put together the BE profession? Those are the guys/girls I want tomake the ADV BE Guide.....not the player/forum base.

On a lighter note,I can say this about the guide.....I think it will keep the BE populace down. Anyone would-be dabbler thatcomesto the site and readsthe BEbreakdown for making petswill surely run for the hills....lol.

I still have job security...lol.
