Thread: BE 'advanced' guide is a joke

I was also disappointed.... as a bio-eng for the past 2-3 months and now finally a master... i was hoping to see some NEW information...

Especially not a guide on how to grind the profession and some handy cloning information, which people have figured out and posted long before...without the help of SOE

I would agree that it seems someone was told to make a feature to keep us Bio-Eng people happy.. only to go and copy a load of info which a majority of us have already seen...

As Orlandu posted earlier, MOST OF THE INFORMATION IN THE "ADVANCED BE GUIDE" WAS DONE BY PLAYERS. NOT DEVS.

In no way is this the documentation we were looking for. We wanted OFFICIAL WORD on what the cloning system really does with all the variables and if it is working as intended.

This is an excerpt from the last section of the "Advanced Guide"

In Closing

Some will find this guide a welcome breath of fresh air while others will find no new information here. To those people who find no new information here, I salute you because you are among the accomplished bio-engineers in our community. For those that find this a helpful guide and thirst for more information, please check out the Expert guides in our Bio-Engineering community. Thanks to the Bio-Engineer correspondent Talthazar, Mirrl, bio-engineering community, Panthu, NJ62, sciguyCO, and the correspondent team for their contributions and involvement.

What upsets me most is that this "Advanced Guide" was supposed to be for the "accomplished bio-engineers". We wanted this to show us what we were missing, because frankly, the "accomplished" among us are still just peeking out from under our blindfolds most of the time.

In a word, disappointed.

I really mean no offense by this, and I'll apologize in advance because it's rather pointed. The guide reads like an SOE intern was given three hours to put it together this morning, i.e., "Go read the boards--there're a lot of big brains there that have worked most of this stuff out." Aside from the absence of copy editiing, the repeated use of the word "seems" leads me to believe that this didn't come from a dev at all, simply someone who combed the threads and pieced things together.

/disappointed

i had to stop reading the "guide" after the first few pages...its like plagiarism IMHO...i mean i could have sworn that i read those EXACT words in our guide on the forums (you know, the one that's been there forever?)...i kind of feel like this is a "ok they wanted a guide so let's shut them up and write something to make them happy" case...talth i know you have been working really hard on getting them to do this and i thank you for that, but this is honestly just ridiculous at this point

(please dont take any of this offensively, i just needed to vent it out lol)

I was impressed and dissapointed:

Impressed that they put in the actual calucations for HAM and resists
Impressed that they clearly paid attnetion to the community and posted known techniques for generational cloning to lower CL

Dissapointed that there were no new things revealed
Dissapointed there was no CL calculation
Dissapointed that there was no mention of what the limits are for different CLs to avoid invalidity checks

However, I am also VERY glad they got it posted anyway so that I can poiint people to it when they question why it is going to take three weeks to get theri custom order of three CL23 pets with light armor and specific special attacks done.

I completely agree. While the guide is useful, I was really expecting hard numbers an exact forumals used for the majority of crafting. Nerf after nerf proved that the devs still don't even know how to calculate the correct CL of a creature.

I'm not sure if they should have posted what they wanted the crafting to be like or the way it is now. TH got ripped apart with the SEA guide when it was horribly incorrect in a few areas. With a guide to show what should be happeneing at least the bugs can be found and thought of as bugs. Not "This is how it is working, is this correct?"

I'm still baffled by the devs saying the creature being made are still too powerful over and over again. But they won't at all say what that opinion is based on. If I know something is overpowered I usually have some baseline I'm comparing it to, some number I want it to be. Just say these conditions already. This is annoying both for the BE and the person that uses it.

There were some good things in the guide. I was actually surprised to see the detail in the HAMs and Resists. Missing the CL calculations is bad though. The entire guide was written like the author really didn't know what should or is happening. "Seems" is not something anyone should used in a document like that, at least not an official one when the author should have had access to the dev that made the system.

i was thinking the same thing..... it's more of a "so you want to be a bio-engineer, eh?"

just needs the "craft a whole bunch of micronutrient supplements and broad-spectrum nutrients in practice mode after you sample a bunch of trash then pikets on dantooine" tip for mastering BE the quickest

WRONG. They didn't do anything. Those calculations you see are a best guess at how the community in general (and specifically the original BE author not a Dev) thinks it works.

ya, they did none of the work. readsexactly like the be guide talthazar wrote up with help from many posts by tal-n sumorex and the rest of the BE community. that writer did give them kudos, but imho, only to save himself from plagiarizing. can it still be? he didn't even paraphrase. it should have been stated that the entire document was put together by everyone but him. i'm a little ticked off, that guy probably got paid for a little reading, cutting and pasting. what does talth, tal-n and sumorex get?

Ok, go open your swg box, we wanted the "adventure manual" and they gave us the "quick start quide".

I hope they don't think that guide contains the information we need, specificaly for Non-CH pets.

Hey all, I haven't written anything on these boards in a while because, well, there really hasn't been ANYTHING to write about.

And now, after months of waiting with eager anticipation, we get THIS. Instead of answers, we get recycled information that several of our own came up with after careful experimentation. We were promised an answer to the whole CL formula, and instead we get nothing.

I am extremely disappointed with the devs right now. This is, without a doubt, one of the worst instances of "bait and switch" we've had around here in a long time.

BE Correspondent, I hope you're readying some sort of negative response for this "guide".

I saw a similar thread before I saw yours Tal-N and vented there (the Shame on SOe one). I cannot agree with you more. It was a slap in the face to the community for them to simply regurgitate our own findings back to us and not offer the answers we have sought.

So, Devs/Th--

1) What is the math/formula behind CL outcomes?

2) Why not show the CL on the template as we experiment it so we can know when to stop putting points in and so we ca actually hit our target?

3) What will be the acceptable stats/ranges for BE creatures of both non-CH and CH levels?

4) When in the name of all that is not SOE (i.e., all that is not evil) will you realize we cannot replace DNA samples like my doctor can replace his resources or my artisans can replacetheir resources? MR DNA should not be lost, nor should mulit-generational sampled DNA be lost due to crafting failures.

5) Why do we fail so much to extract DNA? I am pretty sure that by Master BE, I should have a basic understanding of how to jab a friggin needle into the beast's leg and withdraw a smidgeon of blood--even if that critter is level 75. Do we just need enhanced needles or what?!

to the first thing, i think that people MIGHT read the FF if they are sort of remotely interested...most people just stopped reading it when they found out that there were links to it (trust me ppl have told me)...i mean they using info from like 5 months ago too if you check...after all this time it is pretty much a direct insult to all of us BEs...*grr*

and to the second thing...i have sampling 4, and i fail on gnorts...now THAT is realistic
