Thread: Dying on Dath

Well i managed to get 5 Mutant rancor samples at the cost of 8 deaths at least.


So i go home to use them 3 trys and to crit fails. /weeps


What is up with that.


Anyway I need a bit of help.

Makloc Plainswalker gives big HAM what slot

Mutant Rancor what slots

and Horned Voritor what slots, I want the poison of these.



....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

man that sucks mate.

I'd say get armour, but you look like you're a wookie, so um, hows that going for you guys anyway?

TBH I've only ever died sampling in the nightsister cave getting the Reclusive Cavern Spider Queen DNA, and mostly that was triple incaps (all part of the plan I assure you )

This is an *always*: stay in peace mode (press peace twice and you get a triangular icon next to your name) this stops you auto attacking, if you dont fight back the creatures dont chase as far and they dont DB (most of the time anyway)

Keep your stims handy and if you have a problem with taking a lot of damage, get buffs if at all possible

Sorry to disagree with you NancyJ but this simply isnt true...I went out to dath the other day, was in constant peace mode. I was aggroed many many times by the mutants, and every single time one of two things happened....a) I got chased over 400 meters on foot before I decided to stopwasting stims and just take the hits; deathblow 100%. b) stood my ground, peaced, and let it beat on me...deathblow 100% Went out again today, same scenario, aggro = dead. I dont remember exactly how many times this scenario repeated itself, but the one crafting tool I had out in my inventory went from pristine to 6% condition, this with insurance purchased after every death...so I guess I do know how many, doing the math; over 90 deathblows (I'm persistant ) Hate to blow your theory to pieces, and if it works for you, great...dont for me.

They did increase the chance to DB but I've still only ever been DB once when sampling /shurg, maybe I'm just lucky.

I wondered about this. I was on dath today sampling mutant rancors and I got a ton of critical failures trying to sample the buggers and managed to get maybe 2 samples. Is there a certain HAM ratio I should gage to make sure I can sample them? I know I sampled one that probably had 14k health action or mind and near 13k health action and mind for the other two slots.

i tend to get chased for long distance also and db abit to. im useing +25 mask clothing and have up to exploration 4 also started to use jawa beer. i get maybe on average 1 dna sample for every 7 to 8 tries some times i get 3 to 4 in a row other times i have to try 20 times before getting anything. but i have never been just incap by a MR . ever single time it been a DB.


personal i hope you blood sample thing get the go ahead make it alot easier to craft the lvl 65-70 critter them ch been bugging me for

as master scout, novice ranger, master BE wearing +25 mask scent clothing Im lucky if i get 1 sample per 2 deaths

From what i've been reading on the boards it seems most of you /dismount and /walk up to the rancors. Why not just ride up? I know that apparently /maskscent is less likley to drop when you are walking or prone but for me the risk of running 70m back to my bike with a MR on my tail just isn't worth it. I ride up(usually maskscent doesn't break too often. Dismount, sample, if i get aggroed(i've already peaced, thanks Nancy :} ) i just jump back on my bike and ride off. No incap, no db. For me it's worth the time spent riding away when maskscent drops then getting incaped/db'd and having to ride all the way back from the clone center.

But maybe i'm missing something, i am new to the sampling/BE bit.

OK - 9 samples in an hour (and just a few minor dints), so I guess it's worth me writing a guide..........

Sheesh, that sure does stink.


I've it a bit easier I guess, Ranger 0/0/4/0 so


I speederbike out, then track, then speederbike to within 70-100 meters.

Dismount

walk, sometimes crawl in.

I've failed getting a sample 19 times in a row on occasion though.


I use Scent shirt and pants +25 total and +15 jawa beer and Brandy


Last time i went i got buffs for the first time, that was cool=)

Interesting - I must try sampling MR's again (haven't for a couple of months).


Has it got harder over the last publish or something?


I've not died to a Rancor yet - old stoney trousers just run far too slowly!


Having one chase you is really just an opportunity to split one off for sampling............


Seriously - I find Mereks far more dangerous than MR's because the buggers move so fast and have ranged attacks.


I'll have a session tonight and if nothing's changed, write a short guide (or re-iteration, since all the tips are on this board in various places).

I noticed the other day that the 14k heath HAM ones are more prone to fail...

Things I do to get consistent MR DNA:

I changed my macro for sampling to /stand;/pause 5;/sampledna... with this, I crawl up hit sample and it stands and samples, if I fail I wait a few seconds then sample again. I always go for MR DNA buffed, with +25 maskscent clothing, +11 Jawa Beer, and of course the BRANDY. I have had much luck with these lately, few agros, I just run for the nearest spawn let the rancor kill them and then circle around after his friends.

Also watch for alertness, if they throw up the ? or ! wait longer to sample, this seems to diminish my agros.

On a side note I had a pet I don't use attack a Male Great Plains Stalker, and then lead it through a pack of Gnarled Rancors, it took no damadge and made short work of the Rancors, Man would I like to get a peice of that!

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.

Can't aggro you if you don't give them the chance[1].

[1] They can still aggro you after a sample; I'm talking about just randomly deciding they don't like the looks of the needle-bearing chap loitering in the vicinity.
