Thread: Do many people sell their pets for prices based on Bio-eng. Calculator?

I'm just curious, according to that BECal program my pets are being sold too low. I'm just wondering if fellow bio engineers sell based on the prices that thing gives

Some of the prices i get from it seem really high, see if you think they are fair

I started to .. but after using it and one other (the spreadsheet one .. not sure who made it) you kinda get a feel for what should cost what. If I make something really crazy that tops what I made last I check it but I usually just make an educated guess.

I haven't sold any pets (usually resample them or sell/give them to noob CHs to grind with) pricing with that but I've look at all three versions. The latest one allows you to change the algorithm yourself so that you can price them how you want.

A sweet little bit of coding if you ask me!

Oh god no. That program was made for someone who really needs cash bad, is the only BE on their server, or is on a server with a really high priced economy.

I base my prices on what I gathered from being a noob. (target market for me) I wanted a non-ch pet, and didn't have a lot of dough. I expected to pay 5 to 10k without feeling ripped off and knowing that I didn't get an Ub3R pet. Since my BE character has loads of dough and is not hurting for cash, I charge 5-6k per pet on the bazaar. that way I don't need a vendor, I sell lots of pets that I grind instead of destroying them. For upper end pets, I'll just ask more for them. But remember, only CH's can use those, and they can tame their own very nice ones that are hard to beat and won't put a high value on your pets, so 50-100k is out of the question.

BE pets need to be unique to tamable wild pets. Not in resists, armor or HAM, but to have different abilities or skins.

hehe. 5k for a pet? Any pet I make worth selling is worth more than the reward from 1 mission. I haven't tried this calculator though. I might, but typically I think its best to price out your market on your server and price according to how you value your time. If it takes you an hour to get 5 good samples and make a pet, well, you could have made a lot more than 5K in that hour, either doing missions or making food enhancements or BE clothes. Maybe you would sell them that low if you want something to do with all the starport trash if you are grinding the DNA line, but if you grind it, I think you miss out on a lot of "DNA exploring" you could be doing to test how different things mix togther while you climb it instead.

Anyway, my 2 cents is that 2 cents is not enough.

I used to keep my nose to the grindstone in hopes of succeeding through hard work and persistance. Unfortunately I have been grinding so long, the stone has burned through most of my face and into the back of my skull.

I'm still a little concerned that the default prices are a tad too high (for Ahazi at least).

The veryhigh end pets will be priced under 200k (with most falling around the 100k mark), andafter seeing so many BE's post on these forums that they were selling 13k AR1 pets with 60 resists for 500k-1m, I figured it was ok as a starting point and people could adjust it, up or down, to suit themselves and their pricing.

BE Calc wasn't meant to be a pricing guide, but it is meant to be a fair way to calculate/factor all the stats of a critter into the price of a pet. If you think it's too high, let me know what changes you made in the "Options" (or "cut & paste" the INI contents) and if enough people feel that pricing isfair, I'll update the INI with those changes. If I get a "six of one, half dozen of the other" on it, I'll leave it as is and let each individual work their own price system out.

Edit: Thanks for the feedback!

5k for a pet I would sell something made out of yard trash for that much that's about it. I have no problems selling a 60+ lvl creature for 200k+ and don't feel it is over charge in the least. If I can pay 500k for a gun that wears out faster than my pet ever will I don't have any problems selling pets for this much.

After putting one of my pets in to the calculator I think it's a little low actaully so consider this the other side of the coin.

I ran my last creation thru that one - and also thru the one of my own I've been using at www.swgbio.com/petpricing.xls - came out about 10k higher on the one from warcry - but the principle is the same - think the warcry one charges a tad more for some specials and ranged attack - I know it charges a LOT more for armor. It is a very slick little proggie, very nice work - especially if you don't have excel installed.

I still run mine thru the original spreadsheet and my customers don't seem all that unhappy with my pricing - but YMMV. The one advantage of using a standard system like either of these is consistancy (or any other system for that matter). I don't take into consideration damage or speed or level (except a bonus for premium 10's and under), the one from warcry does.
