Thread: Bio-Engineer is the best class Ive played... and I dropping it like a brick
Im not staking my reputation on the whim of the developers... Todays patch has shown us that they have no respect for the players at all.
I never used bugged DNA... Ever pet Ive made has been my own template and my own design, but now Im worried that one of my customers will get screwed because of this change. I cant be sure because frankly I dont know what isnt right and what is and SOE has never told us.
If we know how the system worked and we knew what was acceptable then it would one thing, but to blind side us leaving us in the void of not knowing what is what... that doesnt work for me. Im done with Bio-Engineer... In fact Im done crafting all together... and unless I find a combat class that is as fun as BE in the next few days, Im just plain done.
AE,
You know what, most people who bought a normal pet kowning there are uber pets out there are reasonable peopl who are trying to play a fair game.
I bought a pet from a master BE, and told him I do not want any bugged DNA in it. Just do your best and I will live with that. I ended up with a cu-pa 5100/4100/3200 no armor basically no resist. I am happy with it and hope he is not invalid.
Now if i get home and see that I can't call him, what will I do? send the guy a tell and ask him to try and make me a new pet. I will not be asking for a refund becuase frankly it is not his fault. I payed 8500c for it and he tried to work with the system. If my pet turns out to be outside of the system ranges then so be it.
The people who will be mad are not the ones who paid a few k for a lower end pet, but the guys who paid a feww 100k for an uber pet.
Look at it this way, you already have a leg up on those guys who just followed bugged recipies and never actually tried to learn the system. You have a better understanding of how the system works now.
so you get one or two idiots who want to complain, that will not ruin your reputation, especially if everyone else knows you were a stand up guy to begin with.
Good luck to you

Your reputation has nothing to do with the devs, but how you handle the current situation. I can tell you for a start that emailing out to previous customers to make sure there aren't any problems, then offering reasonable solutions if there is one (unlikely if you did actually avoid the troublesome DNA types, as you said). Solutions don't have to be free pets, just reasonable - offer to replace for ticket costs for getting new dna samples for example.
Saying that "todays patch has shown us they have no respect for the players at all" is melodramatic, self-inflated and, basically, a bit pathetic. If you don't see that the overpowered low level pet issue needed to be fixed and fixed hard, then you are part of that problem and I am glad you are leaving BE.

Perhaps if you are going to float your egocentric opinion of what I said, you should first take a bit of time to do some research on the person you are trying to insult. I do not know of any bugged DNA except for Nocous Kam, which I avoided like the plague. I never made any uber powerful level 10 pets either.
I used the profession as it was designed. I made each of my own creatures via my own template and my own ideas. The only time I took advice from the boards what on what NOT to use that was bugged...
Today I cant call 3/4 of my pets. That is NOT my fault. I didnt do something wrong. I used the system as it was designed, steering clear of known issues. Instead of SOE coming up with a fix that works, they instead do what they always do... shoot from the hip with a half-assed attempt at a fix.
When they do that they damage legitimate players... and a lot of them. Sure they capture the bad ones as well but isnt the saying "Id rather let 50 guilty people go then imprision 1 innocent one..." I cant remember if that was Washington or Lincoln that said that.
They just recently banned 50 people for exploiting a bug where you could slice weapons or armor over and over again... Yet, was there a patch that went out and found all the weapons that where too good and made them unusable? Is there a patch where armor that is just a bit too high of quality be un-equippable? No they didnt. They decided not to because they dont want to.
They do not respect us as a player base. They have pushed out "fixes" time and time again that do more harm then good. They half-assed exploits and damage people in the process.
Personally Im glad that people making the crazy under level 10 pets are done. I dont think that was ever right. But I am not spending hours on end making reperations to my customers because of a dumb ass developer choice. So either my customers are out thousands of credits they worked for, or Im out hours and hours on end of work for nothing because of SOE... either way someone lost a ton of game time on the whim of a developer... now explain to me how that is respect.
This time, know who you are responding to before you spout off like a fool and look like a chump.
/sigh, it wasnt the dna.. it was the calculation of CL that was the problem. A small amount of common sense (small very small, almost miniscule) would show that certain creatures were unbalanced and unintended regardless of the method used to create them.
I refused to make these pets, even to a very good friend in my guild. He and I have gone back for years, long before SWG and still, I wouldnt hook him up with one, because I KNEW those uber non-ch pets were wrong.
Since the patch today, I have had people actually thank me for not giving them one of these clones. That was enough for me to know I did the right thing by not simply jumping on the current 'uber' band wagon and sticking to my principles.
It's called ethics, and 90% of the people alive today dont live up to that.

Again... for at least the 3rd time in this thread alone... the non-ch ubers are NOT what I have a problem with. I never made those. My problem is with legitimate level 20 to 35 pets (I dont make ones under 20).
The same common sense could be used to determine if a pet is somewhat valid no matter what CL they are. If your clone has the stats of a wild creature vastly higher CL, then it just makes sense that something isnt right here.
The only thing that we SHOULD get from the developers is rough guidelines as to what is acceptable .. i.e. for clones cl 11-20 resistances shouldnt get above 25%, no armor and total ham 3k-15k.. something along those lines. Room for us to play around with, but guidelines to know how far to push.
