I just spoke to a customer of mine who bought a 8.1k 450 dmg pet from me. He tells me his pet ended up with only 9 ability points whereas his wild 69 ended up with 12. He pointed out to me that wild pets already get 3(If they have a L3 ability) abilities built in. Isn't this enough of a punishment for better stats? I tend to agree. WHY should BE pets have 1 less ability ( in actuality if he is correct it has 6 less abilities since his fully trained CL 70 ended up with 9 ability points) WHat's Up with this? Anyway this customer who was going to be a GOOD customer now says he is going to refigure his fighting line up to exclude BE pets. IS this what Devs wanted? I mean CHs really don't need another reason NOT to use BE pets do they? ALl i got to say is Thanks for sneaking the shaft up there... it might've hurt if you'd shoved it like before.

CL 61-70 = 7 - 9Trainable Ability Slots
I talked to him too and we counted up the number of slots for his wild L69 together. We both got to 12 on that pet. This is based on what he had trained it already before it was maxed out. We did NOT count the built-in ability.

CL 1 - 15 = 3 - 5 Trainable Ability SlotsCL 16 - 30 = 4 - 6 Trainable Ability SlotsCL 31 - 45 = 5 - 7 Trainable Ability SlotsCL 46 - 60 = 6 - 8 Trainable Ability Slots
CL 61 - 70 = 7 - 9 Trainable Ability SlotsThis is the same for both BE and Wild pets. The only difference is wild pets can have innate abilities, in effect giving them "extra" ability slots. At CL 70 the difference is "3" if the pet has a L3 ability.Anywho...To me, this just makes wild pets a bit interesting. My main pets will always be BE; more health, better damage, better regen, and they still hit twice as fast as a Wild tame.BE Pets 4 teh win! (BTW, I wish I had a 450 damage pet!)
Those numbers are wrong. A wild pet can have 12 slots PLUS a level 3 ability giving it the equivilant of 15 ability slots.

Grabbed them from the CH FAQ; that is a bit of a problem if they are wrong.
Still think BE pets are better, but a an additional 3 slots on top of an innate ability is a harsh punishment for better stats...
Yes this is quite a pain and while I'm not a fan of the "one less" slot, you can't be surprised or upset by the fact that abilities are only found on wild pets and not BE ones, so you have the "chance" to get extra slots due to the fact the wild may already come with an ability. My thing is that I rarely WANT the pet that I find that has a L3 ability so I don't end up keeping them anyway. It's hard to find a pet that you want to keep due to looks, etc. that have the abilities you want. All the "cool" abilities are on the ugliest pets, lol ... of course that is only my opinion. For my end game pet that I use 90% of the time I want something that I love and don't mind looking at. (Sorry shear mites and any arachnid/bug types... that means you're out.)
Besides, no wild pet (even with an extra "3 slots") compares to the damage and health that can be built into a well-made BE pet, not to mention that BE pets hit twice as fast as wild ones. I think in the end it evens out. I'd still like it if BE pets didn'tautomatically have one less slot, though, but can't complain that a wild pet that already comes with an ability gets an extra slot(s).

I agree. As master of both BE and CH I love having pets that look good and are fun. Where in the wild am I going to find a CL 70 cupa to ride, or my nice little CL65 Jax? They are so cute and deadly as well. So what if they dont have the extra abilities, with the Health and damage the already do it's like having marring storm and what ever the health ad ones are already. Now you can add these if you want for even more damage or pick something else like giveing you tiny little kitty knockdown so it can go for the throat, of eye gouge and claw out your enimes eyes!!!

No - he wasn't bargaining. I know him and he is genuinely upset as is Rachna. The thing is - was the loss of THREE slots or ONE level 3 ability - on the BE pet. I guess we need to know if this is working as intended please Lammie. It is very very not good.
And the thing that gimpy said about the specials not showing up when they were used on the pets - trained ok but didn't 'stick' and wasted slots therefore. Is that intended too?
And finally, as to the CH who had the pet - he said if he'd known that it was gonna be a 9-slot pet and not a 12-slot then he'd totally have trained different abilities to the pet. Here he is with one of the best pets on the server and he now feels like it's ruined after all that time and effort getting it and training it up and working outit's special ability spread. He said he's got a tank that cannot hold aggro now ![]()
Dor ... (waiting for the Lammergeier reply now please)...

True not good and should be fixed but not a deal breaker. We should however warn people buying pets about this little flaw till its fixed. even with lower # of specail slots the increased Health and to hit speed are like haveing a few of the specails build in (even if you couldn't choose them)

Now on this one I have heard from a few CH's that some abilities are taught take the points and dont show but are still working. The abilites I have heard about this with are ones that increase armor, speed, Hit points, and general damage. If you watch the combat screen before and after these are taught you should see the differance even if they dont show (at least thats what I have been told).

No this is very sad
It takes a CH so long to find and learn his specials then level up his new pets to teach them to. Not knowing this can realy mess them up. He may want to as a CSR if that can revert it to no specailsso he can reteach it. Mind you Dont know if the will let alone can do this or not.

That thread, while comprehensive and the result of lots of good work, is not definative.
Those numbers are a best guess from when no one had leveled any high level pets fully. There is disagreement over what the true values are. While there is some anecdotal evidence as to better numbers, not enough study has been done yet to confirm the true numbers.
My observations (and these numbers are as valid as that thread's...):
- CL 10 pets have 4 slots.
- CL 70 pets have 12 slots.
- Wild pets can have a 'free' ability worth 1-3 slots.
- BE pets get -1 slot.
- Pre-21 pets get -1 slot (cumulative).
I am of the opinion that the number of slots are fixed. Drashk believed they were random based on what people told him (last we talked about it, which was a while ago). What it means is we have a rough idea, but none of us can say with certainty what is correct.
