Thread: FAQ
I'm going to take a stab at a FAQ thread. The goal is to provide answers to questions that everybody is asking. I'd ask that our correspondant to sticky this at the top if possible. I'm happy to have discussion on these answers. I've tried to cull them from the group but new information is always welcome.
Q: What is the best pet a non-CH can use for combat (as of 9/15/03)?
A: There are 3 pets to honestly be considered 'the best.' Mountain Krevol, Rock Beetle, and the Cowardly Guerrek. If you are generally interested in a pet that can stand up to melee combat for you, then the Montain Krevol is the best - it has light armor (50% reduction in overall damage) and 30% resist to kenetic (which all melee damage is) and 2100HAM. They are found in the mountain areas of Naboo and thus require a little hunting to track down. The Rock Beetle is also a good choice because of its light armor, kenetic resist (25%), 2100HAM and ease of acquisition - they can be found just outside Mos Eisley most of the time. The Cowardly Guerrek is often assumed to be the best pet because of its 4000HAM - however its lack of armor means it is going to take more damage than the other pets. It is often desired because it has a great model of a large cat (rather than the bug models of the krevol and beetle.) It is also the hardest of the good low level pets to find as it comes from the dangerous Endor (8k+ round-trip just in travel costs, plus the cloning fee - so expect to pay well for them.) Oh, and as a non-CH you can have a max of 2 pets in your datapad.
Q: What is the best combat pet I can use as a Novice CH (as of 9/15/03)?
A: Unfortunately the answer is the same as non-CH. Mountain Krevol, Rock Beetle, and Cowardly Guerrek.
Q: Then what advantage do I have as Novice CH over non-CH?
A: You can tame your own pet rather than having to buy it and you can have 4 pets in your datapad. This is helpful - 4 grown pets allow you to keep a fit pet available for longer periods than a non-CH.
Q: When can I use a Graul Mauler?
A: For non-Wookies, you can use one at 3/2/x/x. Wookies can use them at 2/2/x/x. I know the Mauler looks tameable at 2/2 by non-Wookies (CL34 after all), but it isn't as of 9/15/03. The suspicion is that this is due to the vicious nature (he has a Ferocity of 10) and some manner in which the formula for taming vicious creatures is calculated.
Q: What is the highest level tameable pet (as of 9/15/03)?
A: The Rancor and Guerrek at level 50are the highest level tameable pets.
Q: What does 4/3/2/1 mean in people's posts?
A: This is a way to specify what levels of Creature Handler you are talking about. The above example could also be read as having Taming 4, Training 3, Empathy 2, and Management 1.
Q: What is the best combat pet I can use at 1/1/x/x?
A: There are more pets available at this level and this may come down to preference and type of fighting that you normally do. However for fighting creatures in the wild (which almost always do kenetic damage), the two pets most commonly discussed are the Grand Wrix (CL22,Light Armor, 6500HAM, 25% kenetic resistance) and the Greater Sludge Panther (CL23, No armor, 8000HAM, 60% kenetic resistance). Both have nice looking cat models and are widely used. The Grand Wrix has armor and the GSP has more health.
Q: What is the value of armor, and what are these special resists I see listed for ceatures and how do they work?
A: Both are related to how much damage a creature takes. There is a great write-up by the developers at SOE on how this worksin the Advanced Guides section under Manual on the main SWG site.
Please make this a sticky and keep it revised.
If I see one more "Which is better? Grand Wrix or GSP."
I'm gonna kill myself.
Q: What is a pet's vitality, what causes it to drop, and how do I heal it?
A: A pets vitality is the solution implemented to deal with the fact that pets never permadeath. Each time a pet becomes incapacitated, there is a possibility that it will lose a point of vitality. Also, if you store a pet whiel it is incapacitated it will likely lose one or more points of vitality. A reduction in a pet's vitality reduces its effectiveness. The reduction in effectiveness is based on a formula. According to the developer responsible for Creature Handlers, he has stated that it works as follows 'at Vitality of 91-100, your pet has full stats. At Vitality 81-90, your pet will have a 10% reduction in stats, and so on.' The minimum a pet will ever go to is 75% of maximum. Pet vitality can be healed with a Vitality Pack made by Bio-Engineers (the schematics are found in their Tissue branch.) Each time a pet has his vitality healed, there is a chance that the maximum vitality will drop and yes, this will eventually result in a permanent reduction in the pets stats (the equivalent of aging I suppose.)

Answer: You best bet to try at master CH and still tuff. You can find rancors on the planet Dathomir, head to the north outpost and from there head dead west you will run into a ton of rancors. You will also run into Gnarled Rancors which are CL45 and tample at 4 3 x x.
Question : Where do I find grual maulers?
Answer : You find them also on Dathomir. Head to teh south outpost and from there I find them south west 3k or so out in the desert area.
Question: What creatures no longer spawn and I must be forced to buy them from some one to have it?
Answer : To my understanding the Kilnik queen, frenzied graul, Merik queen and king and merik harvester, Gaping spider queen and recluse. Also Archnoid(sp) warrior, webmaster or any of its kind no longer spawn. I may have missed some and misspelled few things but should get the idea across.
A Kliknik Defender is CL24, has light armor, kenetic 25%, Ferocity 0, Aggresive yes. That should mean that no 1/1 can tame it, Wookie or not. If a Wookie can tame it then there is a Wookie bonus to taming vicious creatures (which could explain why a Wookie can tame the Graul Mauler at 2/2.) Can a Wookie tame a vicious creature at Novice?
The only thing I can find on Wookie is that they get'Creature Taming Bonus +10'. I have no idea what this means though - does this impact 'Tame Wild Creatures' or 'Tame Vicious Creatures'?
