the devs have mentioned, on more than a few occasions, that the number of players that read the forums is a minority of the total player population.
logging on to a few Live toons, I was immediately made aware of this... walking into the theed cantina on Bria, most players there knew who ArthurDent was (keep in mind that he hasn't, to my knowledge, been playing as ArthurDent on Bria for several months now), but had no idea what a 'correspondent' was... nor that the NGE changes even existed.
what I'm NOT recommending:
spamming at a starport, etc "NGE is coming! read http://forums.station.sony.com!"
what I AM recommending:
spread the word. to customers, to cantina patrons, to folks you meet along your travels.
considering the uproar that the announcement caused on the forums from Nov 2 until now, I don't relish the outcry when the NGE is pushed Live to an unsuspecting playerbase. letting players who don't use the forums know that changes are coming is something we can all help out with.

No thanks - marketing this product should be SOE's job, not mine...
If you mean spread the word so people can let their opposition be known, then I just have to shake my head in amazement at the number of people who still believe SOE will listen to their playerbase...

Why? I'll be totally honest.
I'd love to see SOE/LA get a punch in their face, when this stuff hits live, to the so called bigger part of the playerbase unaware of the forums....
And, secretly hoping, the account server getting soo many cancellations it melts down....

I sent a letter out to everyone in my city...I'm a politician these days. Mostly because I didn't want them to have heart attacks when they logged on. The older players already knew about it. The younger ones still didn't look at the forums after I told them. -shrug-

I actually agree. I actually will relish the chaos when this goes live. Since they didn't see fit to accomodate their veteran players with this change, I see little reason to help them with the transition. Their stance seems to be that they owe us nothing for our continued loyalty to them, so the reverse of that is also true. They are on their own as far as administering and testing the change, and dealing with the consequences of it. I want nothing to do with it.

I agree with spreading the news but for a different reason. Case in point, a very long time, swg dedicated friend who has been away from the game while in the service came back last night.
I just happened to log in 10min after he did and he had NO CLUE that any of this was going on.
He now wants to cancel his account BUT because he didn't know, he missed the window by 2days and auto-resubscribed. THAT is why i'd like others to be aware. So they have the choice of cancelling or staying and not just waiting out another month or 3 or 6 just because they didn't hit the forums.

I'm re-upped until january because of the billing cycle, myself.
I think dorelli is in a similar boat.
I think that spreading the news is a good thing... for many reasons, whether to save some folks some money, or just to reduce the overall angst in the world.
I certainly don't think it's OUR responsibility, and I'm not trying to be an SOE/LA apologist. I DO think that the 'high road' here (and so far, this profession has been mature and reasonable) is the one that tries to help other players in the coming days.

I agree as well, Lamm. I have followed up nearly every sale I have had in recent days with an email or tell to be sure that the customer realizes that these changes are coming and there is no guarantee that the items will be worth what they paid (could be worthless, or might be a gold-mine). I also offer to buy back any purchases at the original price and have yet to have anyone take me up on that (even the guy who bought one of my 1446 janta/eLS enhanced stims for 500k thinking it was a crate)...

Waiting for people to return, to read your in-game email that things are going to change are a disaster to happen.
If you want to help your friends cancel/change billing cycle earlier: phone, normal e-mail, even snailmail.
Don't wait till they get back in the game.

I'm with you on getting in touch with the ones we can in RL where possible. This poor pal of mine i couldn't contact though.
Mind you, adifferentfriend was around to hear the changes but had just renewed for 3months. If anyone doesn't want the extra time they have already paid for just the way the dates for renewal fell then listen to this: my pal called SOE customer service4 days ago. They refunded his credit card for 2/3 months and his last game day is now tomorrow.
If you are truely unhappy with being hooked into pre-paying for something that isn't our game...CALL....they could refund you the balance and you can move on. That's only if you really want to leave mind you, and i know not everyone does. BUT it sure beats having prepaid for 6mo or a year and holding onto it if you really find you dont like what's become of SWG. Worth looking into if you ask me.
Luckily i started paying month-to-month when the CU hit.
