Thread: Followup: Request from a Ranger

It's taken me a while to compile all the data you folks provided me. I'm just asking that people take a look at what I've posted here and tell me if it accurately represents the needs of the Bio - Engineer Community. I'll be placing this in a Ranger Harvesting / Pricing FAQ in the near future.

Items in Yellow will be Removed, items in Green have been Revised

Bio Engineers

In marketing to a Bio-engineer there are a number of things to keep in mind. As the Bio-Engineer is, at least loosely, based out of the medic profession, a number of rules concerning medic requirements continue over in this sense.

For the most part Bio-Engineers are in search of Meats. Wild, Domestic, and Reptilian will be the most versatile, but Carnivore and Herbivore will also help (I.E. Find Meat). In the form of specifics you’ll be looking for Dathomir insect meat to help with Stim Cs, and Fish meat to help with Stim Ds. Domestic Meat is ALWAYS in demand (for tissues and supplements) mostly because of the rarity of those creatures that drop it. In the case of Eggs there seems to be a continuing debate over their usefulness, but what I’ve found mostly is that both Eggs and Scaley Hide are used at least in myoflex, both have different equations for determining their overall value though. As a general rule Carnivore and Herbivore meat are needed in large stacks. Everything else is helpful in smaller amounts. The equations for overall value are as follows.

Most Meats: (OQ + PE + FL) / 3

Domestic / Fish: ((2 x OQ) + PE) / 3

Bone, Avian Bone, and Scaley Hide: OQ

Eggs: (OQ + PE + FL) / 3

Milk: (OQ + PE + FL) / 3

When considering prices for Bio-Engineers you'll want to look at the following chart:

800-999 = Above Average
700-800 = Average Market Price
600-700 = BelowAverage
<600 = Useful but within relatively small applications

SIDE NOTE: (This is explained much earlier in the FAQ)

The result of the above equations are compared against the table below. These averages make up what I'm calling the Ranger Pricing Index.

999-900 = above market average

899-800 = market average

>799 = slightly below market average

>500 = probably a waste of harvesting time...

From a Tailor Tissues pov these are the resources I use the most of...

1. Creature Food (any kind of meat, eggs or milk) Anything that can be harvested in large amounts
2. Bone
3. Hide
4. Insect Meat
5. Wild Meat
6. Carnivore Meat
7. Herbivore Meat
8. Milk
9. Reptillian Meat
10. Scaley Hide
11. Eggs

As for chef tissues they mostly take generic resource so I dont know where the idea comes from that we need a lot of domesticated meat - perhaps I've missed something....

Someone had mentioned that due to its rarety Domestic meat's quality wasn't as imporant as its presence. Does a Bio - Engineer not need Domestic at all? If there's a thread that points to a more specific break down of what Bio-Engineers need and for what I'd love access.

My goal is to create an FAQ that helps rangers understand their market and gives them the ability to better judge who is going to be buying the things they're purchasing. I think ultimately this will help all involved professions as it will give us as suppliers more knowledge as to whom a specific harvest has value.

The only recipies that calls for domesticated meat (unless I missed some that I never use) are the Mass reducing food additives - which I have not found to be particularly popular - mostly people want flavour enhancement in my experience.

I just logged out of game so I dont have my complete recipie list with me - I'll try to post when I get back in game.

Domestic meat is useless for the most part. Don't bother harvesting it specifically. As far as the index goes, for bone and hide when we're talking about a single attribute (OQ) I think your scale is reasonable, but for meat where you have to average 3 attributes, it's very unrealistic. I'd say the scale should be more like:

800-999 = insanely good

700-800 = very good

600-700 = average

500-600 = marginal

<500 = only useful for things like active bio sensors

Oh, and as far as a ranger's selling guide is concerned, it's pretty simple actually:

#1 - avian meat - a bazillion cpu

#2 - wooly hide -half a bazillion cpu

#3 - everything else - complete waste of time

Have to agree with AD on this one...

Depends on the BE. Domestic meat is used for Advanced petstim components.I use a lot of domestic meat myself, but I am a Doc/BE. Most BEs get their componts from doctors, though, because of the huge difference all those medical experimentation points make on the end product.

**edit** doh. feel like a idgit. was thinkin about herbivore meat

I think you are mistaken about that. What petstim components use domestic meat?

I can defintely see this adjustment being made. The numbers I crunched were actually based on Avian Meat for my server, which currently is in HUGE demand... seems everyone's a doctor / Medic these days.

As a follow up... if you were to list the top 10 resources you need (most important being at 1)... how would you list them?

Seems right now that Nancy's list above is the closest to what I should be expecting for demand.

You'd need to qualify what "most important" means. There are two ways to look at it, what resources do we use the most of, and what resources are we willing to pay the most for. I'm assuming, since you are a ranger, all you care about is the latter, lol.

Here's what I would say about that:

1. fish

2. Dath insect meat

3. reptile meat

4. avian bone

5. other insect meat

6. wild meat

7. herbivore meat

8. other bone

9. scaly hide

10. egg

The omission of carnivore meat is intentional, because although it is vital, we are able to buy it cheaply in big quantities from scouts. Same thing for leathery hide. Also note that even for fish and dath insect meat, I wouldn't pay 1/5 of what a doctor pays for avian meat. If I did all my tissues would be 200k/crate and my stims would be 300k/crate.

Arthur you know its all about the Bling.

But seriously, most rangers (and I know we're not alone) struggle for a market purely because of the sheer amount of scouts in business and the need for a more benneficiary harvest bonus... rant aside.

I'm really looking for what's most useful to least, credits are the main goal, but honestly I doubt most rangers are selling high quality Scaley to BEs just because Armorsmiths will kill for it under the right circumstances.

P.S. I realize I'm not a BE so if I'm cluttering your boards let me know and I'll go away.
