Thread: Rancor Behavior Changes?

All,

Has anyone noticed behavior changes with rancors? I attempted sampled MRs last night and noticed two things:

1) Maskscent, while always tricky with MRs, now breaks every time (I've got 98 maskscent--it should work once in a while for MRs)

2) All rancor pursuit ranges seem to have greatly increased (the distance they will chase you)

3) Rancors no longer damage each other or attack each other when using their area attacks

I'm fine with altering things in-game, but it seems to make sense that if something that impacts gameplay/strategy/tactics is altered, the devs should communicate those changes to the players who pay their salaries.

That stinks, I just got master yesterday, and was ready to go after them. I tried a couple weeks ago and though my DNA skill was too low to get a sample, my mask scent (100) was enough to get close once in a while. Even if they lowered the effectivness of mask scent a small amount, the fact that the area is usually full of high level hostiles would have a dramatic overall effect on success. For example, if the chance to escape detection was .8(80%) approaching 4 rancors would be .8 * .8 * .8 * .8 = .40(40%) If they lowered it to .7, than it would be .24(24%). You have to admit though, the addition of vehicles made DNA sampling a heck of alot easier and less risky.

That does sound like something the devs would do in a rush. They decide it's too easy, so they tweak it to what seems reasonable without really looking at the full consequences. They need to realize that DNA sampling simply can not occur unless we can sneak up on an animal, as fighting animals cannot be sampled. If we end up with a 10% chance to get close to a rancor, and 10% chance to get a sample, that comes up to a %1 chance of success, which is not really worth the trouble for something that may well end in a critical failure.

Get some +mask scent clothing and drink jawa beer I got 20 samples of Mutant Rancor DNA yesterday. My mask scent is 116 with clothing and beer. The best wayI found to get close is to not follow and go really slow.

This is how I get my Mutant Rancor DNA

Go prone and highlight the rancor you want to get the dna from. Keep clicking your mouse and move just a little at a time, I can get within 15 meters ever 3rd or 4th try. I think the rancor logic does some kind of check for moving objects ever couple of sec's so go slow. Another good point is if your mask scent breaks "STOP" and apply again before moving, butI would suggest that you run.

But don't skill modifiers cap at +25? That would mean that the highest mask scent a 4/x/x/x scout could ever have is 95. So wouldn't anything else be a waste?

While we're on the topic of those beloved rancors - Does having a master ranger with a conceal kit help when sampling mutant rancors? Or they still notice you and come crashing down on ya regardless?

Ok, so I'm asking as a semi-holo grinder, that has found that making critters is fun. With that said, I'm sensing a serious change in Rancor behavior. With mask scent clothing, and some Jawa Beer, my scent bonus is +127. Now, I've not had much luck getting close to even Rancor Youths, let alone a Mutant Rancor.

What I want to ask all you true BE's is this. What can I do to be able to sample something, so that I can re-find the enjoyment of this class, and stick with it. I know that the first line kinda is a strike against me, but I don't want to defame your class, I just want to have some fun.

Would it help to get a Master Ranger to use the Dathomir camoflauge on me? And also, can you sample an Enraged Rancor? I tried on a few, but I only got agroed.

I probably should have made a new topic for this, but it seemed to be inline with what you all were discussing. Also, I am MBE, so I have all the bonuses for DNA Sampling. Thanks.

Food can stackwith clothing ;-)

Or at least it seems like it can, ask any doc out there whos buffing with +25 clothing on and eating Boliva. If it works for them it better work for my class.

Another thing I forgot to mention is get buffed before you go, and keep your vehcile out. WhenI stand up to sample the rancorI turn around andhover my mouse over my bike. Also have a f key setup for /mount. So as soon asyou get aggroed click onyour bike run and hit the mount key.

As a retired Master Ranger, I cansay that the Dathomir Camo Kits (combined with the mask scent mod at master)are so effective that I was able to run circles around ANY mob on Dath without detection. Sometimes I think of dropping my secondary skill and master Ranger again just for the camo kits.

I would ace more squadrons if they'd just fix the remaster bug.

1) Did some MR sampling tonight, dozen samples in under 2 hours. Crawling up to them seemed to worked best for me. I have 100 Mask Scent, Master Scout with some Ranger skills.

2)I didn't notice this.

3)Did notice they don't set each other off with AEs. Probably beyond just rancors though.

Well not attaching each other due to AE's is a very good thing IMHO.

Mutants always gaveme trouble when I tried sampling them...so I just settled for bulls. And isn't it hard tocraft a tamable pet from mutants since they are level 70?! But yeah, I have noticed that stuff except for the 'non-attacking each other' thing.
