Thread: Rancor Behavior Changes?
Unfortunately, I learned that if you use all MR samples on a creature you can't stay under cl70 even with no experimentation
I think they changed Maskscent to fail more often when on a vehicle. Crawling is the thing that seems to work best. Slow, boring, but you may live and you may get samples. Oh, if you are a good CH and have powerful pets. It seems best to have them stay back out of range too. Mutants like to Aggro your pets.
For those times when they do aggro, take a friend or two with TAUNT orSUPPRESSIONFIRE or WARCRY. Do something to delay the Mutant or force the Mutant to attack the combat guy. On Naritus, I support my BE buddy by doing just those things. I do my best to TAUNT the Mutant Aggro to me to keep him alive. Just make sure the combat guy is buffed and capable of taking a few Mutant hits, or runs really fast. ![]()

I am not sure if Mutant Rancors have gotten faster. The first time we went out sampling them, I would TAUNT them to me and burstrun out to get rid of the aggro. Lately, I just TAUNT them to me and kill them. We typically had to kill most of the group of Mutants because of the AOE Bleed attack. They would start fighting each other. If you kill the "weak one" that is losing the fight, you can often get a chance to sample the victor.
I have not been out with my BE buddy to sample them in the last few days, so I cannot comment on the changes to the AOE attack or speed of Mutants Rancors. Most of my experience was last week, just before Publish 7 when we did 2-3 evenings of sampling Mutants for around 3 hours each time.
My Master BE-Master Ranger friend has always been able to sample mutant rancors rather successfully using her swoop, putting on mask scent, and being sure to wear her capped mask scent/camo clothing.
Until last night. She told me she was trying to samplemutant rancorsfor 2 full hours and successfully obtained only *one* DNA sample!!! She finally gave up, full of frustration. What happened was her mask scent broke every single time she got near them and would have to run for her vehicle and zoom away. She did tell me it was all at one lair, but thateven so, she has never experienced this before. She never crawled either before to sample (which I will tell her about, after having read this thread). Still .. since she never crawled before , why would she have to do so now, unless there was some very recent nerf?
So ... have the rancors been nerfed yet even more? Or do you think it was just because she had REALLY rotten luck with the single lair she kept trying to sample? She's going to try it again .. but I fear her keeping the profession (which normally she derives great pleasure from) if she suffersconstant repeats of what happened last night. She's always sampled solo for these, without a combat professional to assist her, because she's never before needed one.
Please advise. Thanks in advance!
I have just mastered BE a couple days ago and had to go after the big boys =)
I have tried on several occasions to sample them at 4 and failed. I had no problems with there reactions after being stuck a half dozimes with no success. Now as a master i can't get within 64 meters of them without them detecting me. I have +16 on both my shirt and pants, my modifier for mask scent is +102. The few times I have been able to get within distance to sample I either get agro'd by one that i am not sampling or the one i am Agro's whether I have succeeded or not.
The distance they chace you is deffinetly longer, I had three the other night chase me for about 1200 meters until i got fed up with trying to get them to discontinue pursuit and dropped them.
one person noted that they have problems with rancor youth. I have always had this problem. I think i get detected more by them than any other creature in the game. seams they are young and have very keen sences. lol
As for the use of Mutant rancor DNA. I have gotten some samples but not near as many as some who have posted but i have found that with just one DNA sample you can greatly improve your creatures ham without going into the danger zone of CL. The best creature i have made with the mutant rancor was a Razor cat that is a CL of 56, 13k ham, 460 max damage, randed attack, 2 specials, Armor and has 56 kinetic resists. Like i said this is with one MR DNA sample, the rest were merek and Bark Mite.
I did start a thread on how i now seem to have more dificulty in sampling now than i did at DNA 1, please add your comments to that post if you have experienced similar problems.
