Thread: Had yet another Chef telling me that 25K is 'a fair price' for crated BSNs...

Chef: Why won't you make BSNs - I pay 25K

Me: 25K is a joke for a crate of BSNs unless you want them below +82

Chef: I pay 25K per crate of +85 BSNs, they don't use much resources. That is a fair price.

Me: They use 20 meat. The best meat can cost me up to 40cpu, that's up to 800 credits per BSN before I add flora.

Chef: You can get someone to get meat cheaper than that. BEs are just being greedy.

Me: Do take a look at the resource costs of your Brandy next time you do a run. Goodbye.; /addignore Chef.

Is it just me this happens to, or are more and more Chefs just complete idiots??? *sighs*

Hmm 20k for 87 BSN is why I stopped making additives for Chefs.

i was pimping my vendor on the trade forums, full runs of BSN at 50k a crate, and someone called me "criminal" at those prices...said he has someone that sells him regularly for 30k, and his friend who just quit sold it to him for 25k. Some other BE got my back on the issue, but it seems there are just too many BEs providing frebies for their guildies or just crapping out the market in general. I've had 2 full fac runs on my vendor for a week now and the only thing I've sold is BE pets. I'm really close to a major starport too so its not just a location issue.

Who are these BEs that are trashing the market for the rest of us? 2000 credits for an additive is not too much when I pay 50 cpu for my meat, and use up days of factory run time producing them all. We need to find a few of these spoiler BEs and "re-educate" them......right in the face =)

Seriously, though, how many of you BEs provide freebies to your guildies? It seems every master chef has connections with their guild, if thats the case then there really isnt a "market" for large-scale tissue purchases at all. At least on Lowca.

And the good news.

After the schematic thing,

After the paying bugger all for addatives thing.

In the last day I've had some interesting chats witha number ofchefs.

It seems, on Chilstra at least, there aren't manyBE's making addatives anymore.

I stopped making them because it was not much fun trying to buy all that meat for quite a small return relative to the work I was putting in (and how much I could make just flogging resources).

I slung any old rubbish together in a last run to use up the remaining meat.

They just bought a bunch of 75 power BSN's at 25K a case and seemed glad to get hold of ANY (I warned them that 'good' BSNs would cost 35K a case........)

They are now also quite keen to buy schematics at 250K a pop (when 2 weeks ago that was "twenty times the going rate").

Wonder how that happened?

There are 2 breeds of chef:

The guilded, who get thier supplies of thier guild mates at cost price and are probably the ones making a fuss about the price of addatives.

The unguilded, who are having a really hard time getting addatives and seem grateful for anything they can get. (All the chefs I talked to in my previous post had no guild BE to supply them obviously).

Dont worry about it! Personally I wouldnt go under 32.5k a case. That price gives you enough profit over the long run and cheap enough for most chefs not to complain. If they dont like your prices post this formula.

4x60,000= 240,000 30x20,000= 600,000 240,000+600,000= 840,000

1,300,000 - 840,000 = 460,000 credits profit for a full run of BSNs

Now Please post your argument why your run of Brandy costs 6m credits at 150k a case????

I dont get many chefs complaining after that. They dont like to argue on the boards why they are being so cheap

Plus I already sell to the two biggest chefs on Eclipse so really the rest can go bugger off and I wouldnt notice.

I got an email from a chef the other day asking if I made food additives. I replied saying that they were basically not cost-effective and so I didn't usually make them. I'm charging 20 credits per bonus point. A crate of +87 BSNs comes out as 43500 credits. These do occasionally sell but not without the customer first asking for a discount and complaining at the price. Yet I barely make any money from these. Factor in the cost of buying tickets to go and load up my factory and I probably even make a loss. Clothing tissues are much better business for me.

Anyhow the next day the same chef /telled me. "I read your email where you said you don't sell additives," he said, "but I really need light, medium and heavies soon and I'm prepared to pay big money."

Big money eh? Ears **edit** up.

"I'll pay 750 credits per additive."

Seven hundred and fifty?! That's 18k a crate. Insane.

I /replied "I would usually sell +87 BSNs at 1740 credits each ... and not make much profit."

"1740 jeez that's expensive."

"It's 43k a crate. How much would you sell a crate of brandy for?"

"I usually sell them for 125k."

Now this guy was perfectly polite and he thanked me for my time. But he demonstrates why I don't bother selling additives. I can make real money selling crates of high quality tailor tissues for over 80k quite easily. In fact so few tailors complain about the price that good business sense dictates I actually charge more, and maybe I will. Forget about additives though until and unless there's an outbreak of sensible pricing.

You are paying too much for your materials if you cant make a profit

Quite possibly. So my choice is to spend more time shopping around for cheaper stuff or to use the same materials and make better money selling clothing enhancements. I choose the latter and to concentrate on pets.

Great thread here. For the past three months I have been running my vendor "BE Tissues by Isscossk". All I sell are chef and tailor tissues. I only pay 15 cpu for meat, with the requirement that PE+FL+OQ>1500. I pay 2 cpu for my flora, but I do the surveying myself. Obviously, I rely on the flora for high tissue bonuses.Someone else plants the harvesters and delivers to my vendor. My 'base price' for+50/+80/+110 chef tissuesis 70% above cost. My 'base price' for +13 tailor tissues is 100% above cost. Each additional +1adds 10%to the base price. I am definitely not happy about the profits that chefs make compared to us. I thought BE tissues would be a great niche market with low competition. I just can't compete with guildies who provide freebies or BE's who sell schematics for 30k. That frustrates me. The word 'union' has actually crossed my mind a few times. My profits are still good, so I can't complain too much. I always use 8 13BER harvesters on a 70% yields selling for 2 cpu as a profit guide, and I'm making more than that. I've heard of meat selling for 40 and 50 cpu. What other professions are willing to pay that much? I certainly can't. I tell my suppliers that if they can earn 50 cpu, go for it, and I'll see them when the spawn ends.
