Thread: Ideas for giving prefix names to clones

I've been meaning to post this for a while now, people on Ahazi who buy clones from me know that I actually use prefixes for clones which help to describe what they are. It's just a bit of fun but it also helps customers to instantly know what traits the clone is before examining it. So it's functional and for me personally it's fun too

There isn't really any rules as such to naming, sure you wouldn't use something unappropiate but if a name doesn't have that right sound to it then i'll sometimes ignore a feature. First of all there is what I specialist clones, these are ones aimed for specific purposes.

  • Focused on kinetics mainly - HARDENED

  • Focused on kinetics and armor - STONESKIN or ROCKSKIN

  • Focused on being generally hard to hurt, typically a high CL - DEMONIC

  • Focused on potentDOT specials, typically ahigh CL- VIRULENT

Then there's my typical special attack prefixes:

  • Stunning Strike - FIERCE

  • Knockdown - BRUTAL

  • Crippling strike - VICIOUS

  • Any poison attack - TOXIC

  • Any disease attack - DISEASED

  • Blinding strike - DAZZLING

  • Intimidation - HOWLING

  • Dizzy strike - SKILLED or SKILLFUL

Now sometimes you get get potent combinations or prefixes that don't work together. For example naming something a Vicous Fierce Gurrcat or a Brutal Vicous Gnort simply doesn't work. So there are some combinations that lead to special titles that I use:

  • stun + knockdown - FEARSOME

  • stun + posture down - STOMPER (surfix)

  • stun + dizzy - WARRIOR (surfix)

  • knockdown + posture down - PSYCHOTIC

  • knockdown + dizzy - ENRAGED

  • Intimidation + blinding - WRAITH (surfix)

Now i have been using Dazzling Howling a few times but it never totally sat right with me, so the surfix wraith I just thought up this minute since a wriath is basically a ghost that is focussed around fear. Thus it's intimidation and being a ghost it's hard to hit as well. This system means you have some nice combinations, for example as Fierce Toxic Angler. Sounds good and someone knows it has stun and a poison attack. You can even tag the specialist titles so you can have a Fearsome Skilled Stoneskin Woolamander. However while that title is very destriptive and works it's lacking a certain amount of flare. So you might simply say it's a Skilled or Fearsome Stoneskin Woolamander. The special surfixes tag on nicely with the specialist titles, aDemonic Kimogila Wraith sounds like one bad ass pet for example.

I haven't though ahead to when they fix the AoE specials however I thinking along the lines of:

  • Open wounds - FESTERING

  • Force strike - FORCE-WIELDING

  • Plague strike - MUTANT

  • Combo strike - FRENZIED

  • Poison Spray - DEADLY

So does anyone else so this kinda thing or have any ideas to share?

I don't have a vendor, and mostly just make pets to specific orders, but I really like this idea. If I ever got a vendor and started making pets to keep in stock, I would definitely do something like this. Even if the customers don't know what all the sur- and prefixes mean, it definitely sounds interesting. I think it adds something different to our critters than what you see in the wild....and it makes it sound very fun . Wish I could do something like this, and it definitely is a good idea as a way to attract attention to an especially sweet pet!

Well I simply produce pets of all varieties for my showroom, people stop by and generally have a look around. If they want something they send me an email and try to arrange a collection time. Naturally though even though the showroom is a large generic there is no room for some pets although i did stick the CL77 Rancor in the main room and it draws peoples attention nicely.

LOL, yeah, I've been trying to start a showroom, but both my houses are in very out of hte way places, and I don't really wanna relocate. I'm definitely going to have one in my guildtown for all the guildies to check out, so I might use your system for those pets .

CL56 Armored Disease Spitting NarglatchBio Inc <<TTG>>

i usually only put in armor, ranged ,poision and disease in the title just sounds cool to buy a disease spitting animal.

Yeah the Diablo naming system was quite clever, the 'Jade cleaver of tavern wench luring' was a personal fav

That's a pretty good idea, I never thought of that. I've been giving my pets names just because its easier if someone asks me about a showroom creature with a name rather than 'gurreck' since there are multiple. I name the ones on vendors too just for the sake of giving the pet some personality. LOL

But I think I will start doing it your way.

No please don't, it's bad enough when I'm out and about the galaxy finding complete strangers saying hello to me. Seems I'm quite infamous because of these forums lol

I just try and put as much information in the name as possible, I've had a number of mails giving me positive feedback so I stick with it.

Example, a Gurreck made from BMBQ DNA might list like this:

  • [CL62] Gurreck [AR1,60K,50En,80H/El/A,RANGED,S.DISEASE,STUN]

Putting the CL at the beginning helps customers order the vendor listing by CL to easily pick out a creation that they can control.

The naming conventions above are good though in an RP sense, but I gave up on names like that based on customer feedback.

(PS. I'm not in game at the moment so I may have got the resists wrong before anyone corrects me )

Well for a vendor I can understand why adding the details to the name is a good idea, however for showroom presentation its so much easier to hit examine. Also what is more eyecatching?Stoneskin VirulentGraul or [CL58] Graul [AR1,60k,45e,S.DISEASE, S. POISON] Each to their own I guess though.

Whoah, wait, what?

Is AoE specials not sticking to our pets a bug that they're going to fix? Do we have a confirmation on this?
