Thread: Why do you BE?

If CH is as broken as it is, what makes you guys tick? I realize there's some economics involved...advanced tissues for food/clothing, but I read these stories about DNA sampling adventures. They sound fun and interesting, but it just doesn't sound like BE's have all that many customers for the pets they make.


Please elaborate on why you love your prof. so much.

I actually still get 4-5 custom pet orders per week and that is 6 months after I dropped BE I had to make an alt just for that.Plus to be honest its fun playing mad scientist and more challenging to sneak up on a mutant rancor without it detecting you then just going up and beating the crud out of it

Zad's BE Life History (abridged)


I did it for the pet making and DNA adventures. I used the additives for a business and then used the money to pay for expadations and trips all over the galaxy. The pets I made I sold cheaply on my vendor (single gens, further gens added extra price). I formed friendships with CHs who told me the sort of thing they liked, so i would spend a day or two making pets that the CH would like. Then I might speak to another who might like one thing so I would spend a day or so helping them out.


It sounded good until the whole additives thing took over. I was speading 3-6 hours every day collecting meat, while doing factories, deliveries, harvester management and I had no time for pet making. In the end I gave up additives and went straight back into pets. I only dropped it because PvP was so appealing and MBE/Rifles means you get owned by a lot of things.


So I did a blow out gig of all my DNA. Made about 20 Light Armour/CL15/60% kin pets, 15 CL5 / 60% Kin pets, 5 or so CL60-70s and few final combines of DNA. about 50 or so pets in total. Was fun... had to go out in style

For me, Pet making is what keeps me here really, and i've made some good chef friends supplying them with addatives. Luckily, i've been able to get a bunch of meat, and i dont' work strictly with a chef, so i'm not pressured to make tons and tons of addatives. This brings in a nice cashflow and allows me to make money withougt having to grind tons and tons of missions or hoping for the best loot to drop for me. The pets are tons of fun for me though, and being able to make monsterous things is what keeps me going. That and i have a couple of "chalenges" from CH's for super-high level pets that are tons of fun to work with. really the versatility of the BE pet crafting makes for a profession that doesn't just rely on hoarding resources and hoping to get good combinations and run factories, which is very nice.

BE is the only crafting profession where everymaster has an equal chance of making a truly unique and exceptional pet, through solely their skill with the system and patience and perserverance in DNA sampling. With all Artisan-tree crafters, all you need is +20 experiment +20 assembly in skill tapes and the best resources available, and everyone has access to the exact same resources, and the process is predictable and identical for everyone using the same material. DNA samples are unique every time you sample them, and the process has so much ambiguity that, once you get a gut feel for what you can and can't do, you can really make an outstanding piece of worksmanship if you apply yourself.


That said, tissues are still where the money's at

I haven't been doing BE long enough to have explored every facet but I have to agree that I like making pets. It's a complicated process that takes a lot of doing and observing. I have some broad goals with this class, like getting to understand the higher level CH pet creation process, as well as a few goals with level 10 pet creation. Those are what's keeping me going, seeing what can be done and pushing the boundaries. Additives hold no interest for me. I make them to help my chef friend out but pet making comes first.

For me, it is the "adventuring" aspect of being a BE. I really LOVE exploring. And being a BE/CH is perfect for wandering the various planets looking for that special DNA or pet (baby). Plus the unique nature of pet crafting is always fun for me. As far as customers, I am constantly turning away customers. I cannot keep up with all the orders for pets and stims and still find time to play. Maybe because I use the "master BE" tag, I dont know. I get several tells per day for orders. I really enjoy being a BE.

For me, it's the fun and socialization aspects.

I don't make many pets anymore, mostly I supply tailor tissues to my alt (who then tours the galaxy doing custom work for folks). Low-end pets make great decorations tho, and those I make fairly frequently (reindeer sets, easter bunnies, PA hall 'guards' and so on).

I first did BE as a Holo grind profession. Then I went back to it because I liked it. Mostly I make tissues for tailors and chefs. My guild has a tailor and a chef who keep me busy crafting for them.


I have also met many good people....even if the chefs are cheapskates...lol.


It wasn't for the credits...I make just enough to keep me comfortable. pay for resources, maintenance and a few extra items.

Yep CH is broken, and all our best stuff needs to have a CH. Even if CH wasn't broken, a CH doesn't need to buy many pets. They tend not to wear out very fast. So, to make tons of money in the pet business probably isn't going to happen. If it did you'd probably have to make more non-ch pets than ch pets.

I stay with it just to see what can be done, and how. I've been making pets for over a year now, and I'd have to say that I have not completely mastered the profession. As Droid said in an earlier post, BE is the only crafting profession in which the skill of the player has the most significant effect on the final product. This means if other people aren’t around to interact with, I can still have fun just trying out different pet combos, or just trying to see what stats I can get on DNA. Even after a year it’s still interesting.

for me its the pet crafting, i make taylor tissues wnhe i cna get resources(rare) chef tissues id make if there was actualyl a profit instead of a loss in them (how can someone object too prices that are 10% marup on cost when they charge over 100% markup? at tihs point i make scheamtics(and get paid a godo price for them) for chef tissues for the chef alt of the merhcant who runs my vendor and thats it chef tissue wise) i also make pet stims (agina if i cna get the resources) and will shortly start making pet vit packs (tracking down resources atm).

only downside is soem of th dna harvesting, my best sellers are non-ch pets but ive bene selling so many im starting to dread the regular and overly repetitive dna harvesting trips for these(still enjoy going after new dna types to experiment with tohugh)
