Thread: New Trend: The BE dabbler??

Ok, so we've all read about the CH nerf (or is it a BE nerf? you decide). They want to run all the combat folks out of the CH-dabbling business and it sounds like the changes are very likely to do that. So now the qestion becomes... is BE the next "dabbling" profession?

Consider that now a noob with only the novice BE box can make:

1) mounts
2) 2 of the only craftable non-CH pets

That right there is likely to be a huge part of even a master BE's business, and you can get that with no boxes of skill invenstment beyond the "novice" box of BE.

1) i agree - this sucks. one solution would be to severely limit the coloring capabilities of novice BE vs master to leave the master a good demand for his product - master should have a vary wide range of colors.

2) this im nottoo worriedabout...

a) they are "more than doubling" our amt of creatures (so 66+)

b) they are giving us a lot of flexibility woth our creatures stats/CL (some will have a minimum CL)

based on these facts, i'd say probably a good 50 pets will be non-CH (-able).

Ok, fair enough. The fact is though that if someone wants a mount which is as good a they get it has to come from a master. Plus considering how theres around 8 non-ch pets with very little seperating them then the dabblers are more than welcome to them. My main concern is that in reguards to masters we have nothing at all for the non-ch market now.

Are you sure about that Tal? Is there going to be any distinction (e.g. speed?) between a "good mount" and a "bad mount"? Afterall we're not talking combat here, HAM and damage may make no difference at all to a mount's desirability. For all we know a Kadu might be a better mount then a Spat, and the fact that a master BE can probably crank an extra 100pts of HAM out of a Kadu is probably insignificant anyway.

I agree that this is a major problem. Sure, the master mounts will have 10% more HAM, but when people buy mounts, do they want to pay 5x's the price just for another 1k HAM? Doesn't make too much sense to me for it to be a general trend. Sure some will do it but not most.

Funny you guys brought this up because there may actually be a distincion. Like Psychological
Dependablity... who knows.. like if the mount runs away and doesn't listen to your controls.. that would be neat.. haha

oh, I personally am not worried at all about the nonCH business. It will be hurt but I don't think that will hurt me much.

I'd forget about the creature part of the profession completely. A BE "dabbler" could be 0-4-0-4 and still provide tissues to Tailors. CH is too much in question to invest any time into the Clone tree.

too late for me .

im gonna wait and see how things play out.. its gonna be a very different market but im still not convinced that the DEV's made these CH change descisions without considering BE.

Actually a master can raise a CL10 critter by anything up to 300-500 points for the HAM plus the damage and other stats will be significantly higher as well, Thunderheart also told us that enemies will can target both your mount and yourself seperately so in the case of mobs a Master mount and a dabbler mount can mean as much as 2 or 3 hits for your typical CL30 critter hitting someones mount.

Also as you said we dunno if speed will be a factor in their creation.

I have to disagree. Perhaps those dabblers will be able to make their own crappy mounts (statistically) but to think they will be stealing a chunk of the BE market from us hardcore BE's is silly.

Look at how players think. Everyone wants the VERY best. Some half-assed creation from a half-assed BE will simply not fly. They will not have the DNA Sampling skill, or the crafting and experimentation skills to compete with those of us who are dedicated to our craft. The same can be said of non-CH pets. People are obsessed with getting the best.

Second, the creature market in itself is (and tell me if you think otherwise) a relatively small piece of the BE pie. From a monetary standpoint creature sales only make up about 20% of my overall profits. The big money is in Tissue Components and Pet Stimpacks.

I don't think we need to worry about a few dabblers. The CH dabblers were a different story since they could essentially "master" their profession by completing only 2 of the 4 skill trees. Not so with BE.

Actually, my creature profits are double my other sales.....

Maybe it's because my price guide is "outrageous" ahhahahaha
