I was trying to sample DNA from rancors for the last hour and 15,, i could not get one sucess on mutants of enraged rancors. they would fail and blow my cover,., i would run,, repeat,, finally after all that a rancor agros me and im a bit slow to run and in one shot im dead. I was fully buffed wearing armor.. and it did 831 points of damage, but obviously that was enough to get through my 2500 ham??? **edit** is up with this crap?? Dna sampling went from hard to impossible for non combat Bio's

That sounds weird.. and calls for a trip to Dath in the morning

I know that it's supposed to be 'impossible' to get samples from Enraged Rancor, but the Muties have always coughed up the goods before.

Well enranged rancors are CL 80 and nobody has ever reported to havegotten a sample from those, conventional wisdom is CL 75 is the cap. So your attempts to sample those are probably wasted.

Also, it is a long standing tradition in this forum for someone, every couple of weeks to claim that "omg, something has changed, mask scent is broken and it is not impossible to sample mutant rancors" and you know what? it's never been true yet. 1 hour and 15min? bah, that's nothin, particularly if part of that time was wasted running back and forth between the clone center and the enraged rancors. When I go mutant rancor sampling I expect to get about 1 sample per hour, although my rate has definitely improved over that lately as I've gotten a little better at it. Oh, and I go unbuffed, and wear no armor

yes sampling is very very difficult when they are in large groups. i try to lure one out of the group and when it tries to make a run for it back to the safety of the pack, i get the needle out and give it a good poke. today i got 4 samples in 2 hours so i was pretty chuffed. another tactic u could try is killing all but about 3 of the pack (sad I know) and then sampling the remaining ones, you will find they prolly dont blow ur cover and u get 1 or 2 samples out of each.

I so agree here. Being a purist BE in my eyes, I don't get buffed either when sampling mutants (okay, i'm drunk off brandy though). On some nights, it seems I have no luck sampling mutants whereas on other nights, I'm filling my backpack. If you average it out, it comes down to aboutone sample per hour. Hell, on some nights my +125 mask scent and prone will draw aggro without even snapping MS and it is nearly impossible to sample. That or a stray jedi will completely ignore me while he comes in and decimates my spawn in a matter of seconds (as if they never did BE on their hologrinding). I'm with Arthur here, I'm sure nothing has changed. I will test it out tonight though, my mutant DNA stores are running lowwwwww. Can't keep my lvl70's in stock for more than an hour.

I've been a MBE for a week, wanted to try it out and like it a lot but I like my Ranger/MCH/MR even better. I've harvested a lot of rancors with a MR/MR setup so I knew where to find mutants and how to move around them without being spotted. As soon as I made MBE I buffed and went to Dathomir to sample Mutants and mess around with their dna. I got 13 samples in 2 hours and reading the general mutant rancor sampling posts around here other people havent been so lucky so I'll post how I done it.

I was wearing +25 mask/camo clothes and gulped down some +14 Jawa beer. (get a shirt and pants with bonus, you can wear the rest of the armor then. Use a macro or the quickbar to quickly put on the last 2 pieces when agroed, chest first). I made a simple sample macro (/sampleDNA;/pause 10;/peace to automatically peace when the sampling agroed it. With 139 mask scent on I crawled towards the Mutant till I got within 15m, then I sampled. When it agroed I had already peaced it and send in my pet to take the agro off me. I would start running (no burstrun) towards the nearest hill while spamming the follow me command to my pet. I noticed a creature will abandon his attack sooner when it's agroed on your pet then on you. The follow me command is used to /peace your creature, spamming it is needed 'cause it will defend its self when it gets the next blow. TheMutant(s) usually gave up after 100 to 200m saving a lot of walking to and from time.

The best tip I can give you, stand up early or stay up late. 4 hours before and after the server shutdown dynamic spawns are present in greater amounts. Turn on the Dathomir Sarlacc POI and search in a 1km cone NW to NE from that POI. It is teeming with all rancors ('cept Bull) at that time of day and when you're fleeing from an agroed Mutant you're already running into the next group. Having tracking or bringing someone with tracking is really a great help here. Nightsisters and other NPC's/creatures are virtually non existant in this region.

If you're not master then you cant sample mutant rancors.

At MBE is hard to get samples, really hard, so below master, no chance. Unfortunately there is no error message to tell you that you're trying to sample something above your level

Mutant Rancor Groups of 6 or more, seem to be bugged, all my sampling problems with MR's has been with these groups. I have never gotten a single sample from such a group. On a side note, for those of you new to MR sampling if you comeacross a group of Youth Rancors, stay about 100M out and circle it, you will find MR's.

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.

And I'll chime in as a n00b, since I got nailed with this myself the other day:

I was finally able to get close to a MR to try 2 samples. I didn't get either of them but at least I got close enough to start the sampling this time. Mask scent was broken by a rancor much further away and I had time to finish failing on the sample before he tagged the mutant to join in.

Ok, but, I'm not sure what the hullabaloo is about getting MR's. Bull rancors are much easier to get and they'll provide a sweet CL70 if that's what you're after.
