Thread: So why are you still a BE?
Inspired by thethread where someone said "they couldn't believe people stay in this profession."I thought I'd break up some of the reasons into categories:
1. Really optomistic - "We must have been left out of the mount patch by accident. The devs have said they are working on BE, so surely we will make it into the next one."
2. Reallystubborn - "I hate how the profession has many problems & none are being fixed, but I refuse to drop it"
3. Really patient - "The devs are working on our fixes, I'm sure they'll get around to actually implementing our fixes before I die of old age"
4. Spiteful - "I hate this class, but I won't drop it, just so I can keep complaining about it & annoying the devs"
5. Masochist - "This profession causes me so much pain and stress... give me more"
6. Actually enjoying it- This one's like a honeymoon - short and sweet. And usually you wonder what the hell you were thinking a few weeks later when the glow starts to wear off. If the glow doesn't wear off for you, don't complain - you're one of the lucky ones
.
7.Insane - "Soon mygraul and I shall overthrow the Emperor and take over the world --- What do you mean I can't make a graul? Lies! I have one right here... well, he was here a minute ago. No, really... he must have wandered off somewhere"
8. In denial - "What do you mean you can tame something better? You can't tamemy blurrg? You must be broken"
9. Other?
NOTE: The categories/descriptions are meant to be humerous... although I can't deny that a bit (maybe more) of cynicism/bitternesstrickled in. Sorry, I'm not much of an optomist
.
So, which category/categories do you fall in?
I started out as #6, but eventually slipped closer to #3 & 5. Although I think I'm #7 now, and probably #9-I'm finished.
I lost my entire backpack containing all my inorganic, bone, wood, and medical resources poofed last thursday (and my red sofa and crafting chair, the horror!).
In short, I submitted a CSR request and finally got it yesterday, and they basically told me they have no way to "verify where it went" so therefore they cannot reimburseme or restore my items- read: "You're f*****." Basically, I lost my entire stock of half of the resources needed to make pet stims, vitality packs (A, B, C), most tissues... about all I can still make are clones. Good stuff too - quantities of 50-300k of 900+ OQ/UT tat fiberplast, 900+ OQ/PE unknown radioactive (for vit c), good dant berries, several stacks of 900+ OQ fiberplast, 900+ wood etc. Just listing what was in it makes me feel sick - the contents of that bag would probably sell for more credits than I have in my bank.
If there was a date on those fixes, maybe I'd hang around for them - I have credits, and frankly I wouldn't mind just selling clones alone - but there isn't, and I'm not dying to replace all those resources just so I can continue playing a largely broken class
. I think it's time to try some other aspects of the game - I hope that one of these days BE is a profession worth coming back to (could be December, who knows).
Was #6 (enjoying it) for about 2 months
now it's just simply #2 (too stubborn to drop it).
I started out enjoying BE. I got into BE mainly to enhance my tailoring with bio tissues, and that aspect of it has worked out very well. I found that I also really enjoyed making the low level critters that I was able to make for non-CH (Kahmurras mainly). Lately though, I've gotten pretty disgusted with the fact that the clone line is so bugged, and the fact that after going up the clone tree and finally making it to master I can't really make anything worthwhile at all as far as critters go, and now with the CH nerf coming I'm even less useful.
The only reason why I'm sticking in it now is that I don't grind that much, and it took me *so* long to get to master, that giving that up is kind of a monumental thing for me. Also, since I have a second account with a second character on the same server, I'm able to actually have "fun" with that character (Ranger/Carbineer)while this one sits and rots waiting for fixes that may never come.
Well be seeing alot more #9's in the next couple weeks, all those people who went novice BE or higher to make mounts are starting to smell the coffee.
Me? i played EQ forever, played a rogue, it was the broken class of that game forever, i got fed up and left for AO beta, a while later i found out that after i left they fixed the hell outa rogue and made it fun an usefull.
In AO i played a droid engineer, it was a broken class, wanted to become the combat droid though that is an ability at 170 sumthin level. Was impossible to climb/grind through though, after months and no fixes i gave up, couldnt do it any more. I heard a few months ago they fixed Droid Engineers.
IN SWG!! i spent a long time getting my wifes character that she doesnt play any more up to master BE (jezuss what a grind), mostly to help out my main whos a MCH....i see alot of potential for BE's, wondering if they are going to get fixed before or after i leave, trying to hold out.
I like most people started out at number 6. I made an eopie named Pinky so I could be The Brain. The good ol' days. After finding out the number of problems involved but hearing all the nice talk from our correspondent (before he went on walkabout)I went to number 3. We were put on the back burner after being told clones would be fixed so I went to number 2. Now we've been slapped again (whether intentional or not) and I'm at number 4 quickly slipping to number 9. That being I rarely play anymore. I come to these boards hoping to see a ray oflight but only getting the same old "please be patient" b.s.
Jedi holds no interest for me. If I wanted to play Jedi I'd buy Jedi Knights. I love the concept of BE but its a concept only us players seem to recognize. I've come to the point when I need to ask myself why I pay to play a game I'm not playing anymore.
I hope SOE puts more forethought into the content of their next game instead of just a snazzy title.
2. Reallystubborn - "I hate how the profession has many problems & none are being fixed, but I refuse to drop it"
3. Really patient - "The devs are working on our fixes, I'm sure they'll get around to actually implementing our fixes before I die of old age"
Im somewhere inbetween those two.
I started out as an Artisan shortly after launch. After my first real look at some of the wild life i was sold. I love the animal models in the game, the fact that they often seem quite lifelike in thier behaviour.
I read up on the diffrent classes. Bio Eng sounded like a really interesting class. The ability to work with creatures, make and modify them seemed like a really cool class, on top of that it was diffrent from the combat classes i'd played in my previous games.
From there its really just been a big disapointment. I can make cash, and i can supply my alternate CH char with pet stims. I've yet to see anything that resembles what made the profession sound so fun and interesting and currently im pretty much trying to decide if i should 1) drop BE 2) drop SWG 3) just sit down, be bored and fustrated and hope the devs actually comes through at some point in the future before the fustration gets to a point where ill just cancel
There are many problems that I hate.
But I should also add that there are many things still gratifying.
I still like giving people a free pet when they never had one before.
And with my CH skills I can train it up and give it away.
I was #6 (Actually enjoying it) when I was X/4/X/4 and could make some interesting stuff, looking forward to Mastery and making cooler stuff. Trying out all the things I possibly could make and seeing how they turned out.
Now I'm #2 (Just stubborn) and #5 (Masochist). I worked really hard to get to Master BE. I tend to nod off while grinding, my computer room is nice and warm and I have a comfy chair.
So it was a hard, long haul for me. I'm not in a guild, I did it all on my own, it took all my money to buy the meat and support my harvesters to get the stuff to practice making all those food supplements that no one ever uses. So making Master felt like an acheivement to me. Now it looks like a wasted effort. ![]()
Maybe if I ever find half a dozen Holocrons lying about they'll consider my having Mastered Entertainement and Bio-Engineering as having been two qualifications, because I sure as hell don't ever want to go through becoming a Master Bio-Engineer again.
I worked my butt off to make it to Master and now I'm not going to give it up. I'm just going to wait, hope we get fixed, but in the meantime, I like to help my sister, a MCH, out with pets and stims. I do have another character (a BH) if I actually feel like killing stuff, but otherwise I stick with it and get the most out of it I can.
#9: other.
No, I didn't get a holocron that told me to come here. But I've decided I don't like this class because it doesn't work and no one cares. But wouldn't it suck to unlearn this, go learn something fun (like CH/smuggler combo - you can master both thus avoiding being cursed as a "dabbler") only to go get a holocron and have it tell you to master BE?
I've made it to 2,2,4,4 BE and 2,4,4,3 pikeman. Both classes are broken, development doesn't care about either one. But if I master both and then unlearn them in favor of something viable, at least I'll have an insurance policy that a holocron won't send me back to either one. At least being a pikeman means I can get a lot of meat from womp rats on tatooine (or bigger stuff on Dantooine with a friend). And if a piket aggros me while sampling, I just kill it (unless it's got a friend, then I just run).
And besides, I can makecredits as a BE selling pet-stims.I'm not keeping the credits, though -it's silly to hang ontomoney in a hyper-inflated economy. I'm turningthe credits into resources and harvestors and factories and weapons from other classes I mightlike to try someday, andSTUFF in general.
So maybe add to your list:
#10: because the only thing worse than grinding to master BE would be grinding to master BE twice.
--Insomnia
Started out as #3, but definately #9 now (Apathetic). Since there's no telling when we'll be fixed, I picked up FFXI last night to give me something entertaining to do during the long wait.
Somebody wake me up whenwe're fixed, eh?
