Thread: I want to cry now *sniffles*
it is the grim reality of crafting creatures.
i always have 0 BF, no wounds, a 14.1 tool, 41.1 station, in a city with research bonus and had4 combines on high level templates (MR,BMBq,BMB) result in failure (yes, consecutive).
being a MBE i expect this. it keeps the nasty beasties rare and valuable making this a lucrative profession.
btw, i went on to craft three CL70's in a row.
I too feel your pain, but its what comes with the territory. Been working for the past three days on some triplets and cant get past the first. AR1, 60 Kinetic, energy, elec resists (not 60, just not vuln), the rest don't really matter, with good dam(300s range), ranged attack, kd/dizzy. Manage to get the stats low enough on some 3rd gen creatures that if combined correctly woulda produced it. So.... Sample the first one for specials: fail, fail, AA sample, fail, AA sample.... *poof*. So I think, ok, I still got one more to try for, sample: VHQ, VHQ, VHQ, HQ, *poof*. So go to the combine crafting of the template, all works out, crit fail on the creature combine tho... few hours and a good amount of creds on travel down the drain... Don't be disheartened, these things happen, just empty out your pack, be confident in the fact that you can reproduce your results, head out and begin anew.

Our templates are the analogue to their manfactured sub-assembly components, and there is ample precident for use to get them back on a critical failure.
After critting on a 3rd generation this morning while breeding in resists to fill out a resist profile on an otherwise very good creature, I am nearly ready to drop the profession myself, and I started the new character on Chilastra specificly to become a BE.
The amount of time that we take in collecting the samples and the risk we undergo in experimenting for the stats in the templates should not be lost to a "cr@psh00t" roll of the dice when doing the final pet combine. Resources, perhaps, but the template and all the work that goes into making it should not be subject to a simple random process we have absolutely no input into or control over.

If you have scout skills,a goodstrategy is to bring a chemical/crafting station droid along with you. When your inventory gets full, make a camp, call the droid and make some creatures. This doesn't cut down on the chance to critical fail, but at least if a fail does happen, you'll be right next to the nest and can take some more dna.

I dropped BE because of something like that... I went around collecting dna for 2 or 3 days and making 1st and second gen critters to sample from to make the best non ch I could... I made extra 1st and gen because I expected crit fails... no BF perfect condition with buffs and food no less, best possible tools and stations... out of 7 possible non ch pets I got 1 and failed the experimentation on it.... in two diffrent fields... at that point I said time for a break from BE and I dropped all sampling and tech that I earned so far to let a friend get some APxp off of me...
I will come back to BE when the crafting is a little more stable... right now there are just too many places to fail... Initial DNA combine, experimentation (more then 1 way to fail with each experimentation), final pet combine... add in second and third generation failure rates and woohoo! fun, fun, fun till daddy takes the t-bird away!
