As droid says, the crafting side might just be doable in 12 hours. The DNA sampling part may take the same again, probably more.

and of course this all costs you a crap load of cash

but if ur a chef / tailor then you should have no probs in that department... i hear they're rolling in dough (no pun intended but nonetheless appreciated if you laugh).

I have done both tailor and chef, whch I doubt even combined = 12 hours. Is this right? 12 hours of grinding? or has this changed because my friends said BE is not all that bad.
Thx

If you can grind BE in 12 hours I salute you. I did not grind any part of this profession as it was my chosen one and i wanted to learn it all and get the experience. I suppose if you had all the materials and knew what you were doing you could get BE that fast. But I give you credit for clicking away while you grow roots on your chair.

You can grind up to 4404 if you have a metric buttload of flora and meat fairly quickly using micronutrient supplement and broad-spectrum nutrients (low meat cost, can use any meat resource) but the sampling tree you're gonna have to put in the time out in the field. Each sampling event takes about 10 seconds (and a good deal of mind), and you'll have to do hundreds and hundreds of samples to get each box, so do the math =)

or you can plan ahead and grind combat professions on quenkers thats a **edit** load of wild meat, and flora is well... easy to get. So its all free if you plan it out

LoL, no way it takes 12 hours of solid grinding! Check the FAQ Sticky thread, it has an extremely good macro. using this macro you can make whatever you want in 7 seconds (if you have the needed resources in your inventory...)!

Taken from FAQ: From Novice BE, grind Constrictor Cloths until you get Tissues I. In practice mode they will offer you 110xp per cloth. Then, grind Micronutrient Supplements up to Tissues 3 (same XP, but less meat required); requires a food & chemical crafting tool. Finally, grind Broad Spectrum Nutrients or Scent Camouflage from there until Master; requires sitting in front of a crafting droid or personal crafting station (not a public one).

Assuming you grind Constrictor Clothes to Tissues 3 (don't bother doing the other **edit**...lol), to get Tissues 3 you need 90k Crafting XP. Now, 90.000/110=818. So you have to make 818 of these. As each one take 6-7 seconds to make (we assume 7 seconds just to be sure), you have to spend 818*7=5726 seconds. WHich is 5726/3600=2 hours approximately.

Now you should have Tissues 3. You get 176 XP per Broad Spectrum Nutrients in practice mode (we are using practice in the macro). You can only get 4-4-0-4 by crafting, the other one is DNA sampling. So from here on you need 420k crafting XP. How many you need to make: 420.000/176=2387. How many seconds it takes: 2387*7=16709. How many hours that is: 16709/3600=4,641 approximately. So in total you need to spend 6,461 hours of solid crafting.

I have changed the macro so you can spend 4 seconds of loading resources. It's not hard to to that as you only need to click on 3 things. Let's say it takes 1 second to load up the schematic in a lag free environment. So it takes 5 seconds in total to make one. Now let's see how much time it takes. According to my calculations, it would take approximately 4,45 hours to get 4-4-0-4.

Now we have DNA sampling left. For this I use this really good macro:

/ui action targetSelf;
/ui action cycleTargetOutward;
/follow;
/pause 15;
/sampledna;
/pause 10;
/stopfollow;
/pause 55;
/ui action toolbarSlot11;

Clean your inventory so you have 0/60. Place your important things in your backpack so you won't use inventory space. Go to Theed and place your character in a "trash" dense area. Go to options and maximize field of view. Scroll out and press ctrl+shift+s so you will automatically rotate. Now, place this macro on F12 (NOTE: Don't place it on shift+F12). Activate it and let the XP roll in. Go and eat something, watch something or television or feed the dog or... you get it ; ). Come back within 2 hours. Type /dump so the macro stops. Clear your inventory space. Don't bother saving the DNA, it sucks. Activate the macro again. You can leave the computer on over the night and come back to find yourself with at least 5520 DNA sampling XP. And you don't have to do anything, good huh!? When you get DNA sampling 3. Go to Dantooine and sample from picket longhorns. And after this, your Master Bio-Engineer and can make UBER PETS. Hope you have found this usefull, cheers!

Actually that's incorrect. After all that you're be a Master Bio-Engineer andyou probably won'thave any idea how to make 'UBER PETS' or anything else. So make sure you read all the stickied threads at the top of the forum. At least that will give you some idea of what you're supposed to know.

Wow Lunden found an amazingly bad way to grind BE lol....you want to grind sampling FIRST. He's right in essence, grind on yard trash to sampling II, then head to Dant and do Piket mission lairs. Assuming you have maskscent (if you dont, go get maskscent, you cant be BE without maskscent...) you can milk pikets while you sample them (and even after you sampekill them too lol, eww) and get a buttload of milk, which if its HQ you can sell to buy more grinding meator if its LQ you can use to grindwith. PPWs give about 100 milk each, so it quickly adds up to several K.

If you could mentally stand doing8 hours of solid sampling, I still doubt you'd have enough to make sampling IV and spend the other 4, as the guide implied, solidly crafting to round out 4404 in under 12h - we'll assume the guide'sessentially correct though I know its not, BSN yield 168xpinpractice mode and you can make them by a public FnCstation, or at least I could by the Coronet station, though I suppose that may just be because there's so many FnC droids always called near it. You have to factor a lot of time grinding sampling intotransit time between lairs, mind bar downtime, failed samplings which net no XP, and aggroing which cost you a minute or so of incap time (its better to sample /peacedand let them incap you for 60s then get up and try again than to try and run away and lose the aggro).

The guide's auto-sampling macro is not very efficenteither, as you're likely to just chase mobs out of the spawn area and idle when theres no targets in your view area. You can quickly collect 60 samples from yard trash anyway, which will net you a whole 6000 exp assuming about 100 per sample, then you'll just keep failing and triggering aggros the rest of the night.

So basically, in conclusion, you can grind4404 as fast as any other pure crafter profession, but its the sampling tree thats the sticker andwill be your major time sink mastering BE.

I just finished master bio-engineer last night. I started from novice medic. I had a macro crafting Stimpack A's. Once I got to novice BE I macro crafted constrictor cloth all the way to 4-4-0-4. I would normally get a full column done in 24 hrs. Then I spent roughly 3 days( a few hours a day ) grinding away at dna-sampling.

All in all it took I think 5 or 6 days.

I was also working on merchant and only had pistol 4 in marksman. So if something turned on me while sampling I would have to run, or just die. Don't do what I did

I did however have 426 m/f/w drinks that I would stack. I could sample non stop with the use ofa stimpack B every 6 or so samples. DNA-Sampling 4 went faster than the rest

If you're really trying to grind this out quickly, don't bother with sampling macros or yard trash. While the trash is plentiful, you can do better by going after stuff that's a little higher up the food chain. Consider kaadu and gualamas, for starters. Much higher xp per creature, and your failure rate won't be much different. Do yard trash until you know how it works, but move up as soon as possible. You just have to figure out where the xp / fail rates balance out best.

The best way to clear out the dna in your inventory is not to just heave stuff out, but to knock out DNA templates with it. You won't get a lot of xp for it, but you will get some. It's worth noting that the xp per template rises as you get better dna, so doing this during the course of the whole sampling line will get you a box or two, essentially for free. It's probably faster than deleting it all, too =)

As was noted, running a macro for two hours to get 5k xp is wasting your time. Do it yourself and you'll find it's actually pretty fun, and moves along pretty well. While pickets are fine for xp, you'll find a lot of stuff on Tatooine that's a step lower in fighting ability, and plentiful. You're better off doing stuff you can sample multiple times for good xp rather than stuff that'll jump on you in one poke, or that dies on you after one sample, regardless of the xp gained.

Sampling is the part that makes this profession worthwhile and different - enjoy the grind!

But then again, you have to also decide if you need the money or not. Getting more samples from a critter on Tat is not a bad idea, but if you need the cash (as in you are not holo grinding, or you have been holo grinding for a long time and it has broken your bank) then pikets are still the way to go. Each mission = 6-18 successful samples (at low level) and 9k in cash..
