Thread: Fishing
Fishing unfortunately is the ONLY way to get fish (well - may an occassional rare drop - like that's gonna do you any good).
Here is how you fish.
First - get a GOOD pole. Quality makes a HUGE difference in success fishing. One over 90% would be my recommendation. I stock 90%+ poles on my tools vendor - and bait, if you happen to be on Radiant.
Next - find a 4 or 5 star spot to fish at - preferably in shallow water so if you walk into it you aren't swimming - that will be important in a step or two here. Also - there is a vegetation indicator when you fish as well - you want that no stars if possible.
Bait your good quality pole, cast. On a nibble - select an action, don't really matter which one. In a good spot - with a good pole, you'll probably get a bite next tick. Repeat, do an action on a bite. With a good pole in a good spot, chances are you'll get CAUGHT SOMETHING!.
At this point, wait about 5 seconds - until you see the first reaction, and run up to your bait (why shallow water is important). The more distance you close between your bobber and you - the fewer rolls you have at loosing the fish and it's also quicker. If you start swimming this is no good - you end your fishing session.
It's still very inefficient and time consuming - and you may still only get 1 - 3 fish fillets, but it beats standing there not catching anything all day. They need to drastically increase the yield on fillets.
Hope this helps.
i began fishing when my bio engineer friend said he needed molluscs for a tissue that was going into my clothes..
fishing is fun ![]()
I have a 97% pole, and i catch fish almost every time.. i just repeat the same action.. pull right or left or up and voila! catch.
i dont know how or where or if fishing can get you molluscs.. i have my backpacks stuffed with fish and im starting to smell. ![]()
I had went to a cave once to check it out after the POI's were introduced into the datapad, and we killed all the creatures till we got to the end of the cave. When we got all the way down there, I did find Mollusks on corpses (static), but was unable to loot them.
As for fishing, I get my guild to go with me, 20+ people and we all fish, laugh and have a good time, and everyone hooks me up afterwards. This works out pretty good, being that most of the fish caught are usually the same, and the stack gets larger.

This is probably voodoo but I keep the center screen on the floater at all times. It seems to help not lose the target. Kind of like keeping your eyes on target.
Was about to post the link that Tarot did. Was doing most of what the guide said except running along the bank instead of walking out to the water. Tried to do some fishing yesterday for survival xp...still can't get myself to sit there and waste time like that.
How to catch fish 80%+ of the time.
Get a pole with a rating of 95+
Find a place with 5 star fishing.
Spam Tug Right.
Filet fish - never ending bait.
I tried a bunch of combos of actions and just hitting the same one over and over , didnt make much difference.
Coming from a former profession grinder, trust me this works.
cast...tug right...tug right....tug right....filet...cast...tug right..
lol
The REAL KEY to fishing is in how you stand in the water. Take it from a master ranger who has spent a lotta time doing it (anyone on Corbantis need fish meat?). Get into the water up to your knees and stand facing 90 degrees to the shoreline, allowing you to run in the water alongnext to the shorewithout entering swim mode. This way when you do the "small reel in" you can run right up to and stand next to your bobber. You'll catch the fish right away instead of having to fight with him for 20 minutes. Don't start running until you get the little message that you "begin to reel in" or what have you, or else you'll just lose the fish.
Forage for it or find a scout/ranger to forage it for you.
