Holy smokes! they really meant it when they said super bunnies!
Awesome info on your site Talth!
Anyway, does anyone know if you were able to use DNA samples taken before the patch in the TC?
I just have a stockpile of decent Rancor DNA that I want to save until the patch goes like on all servers.
Also apologize in advance if this topic has been covered before.
Heh I shouldn't have read this thread.... all it did was make my head hurt.
*hands you 5 wooden objects*
You: What is this?
Me: Test this to see if its working *walks out the door*
You: Hmmmmmm
Isn't that just about the state of things with this cloning system? I like a little complexity. I like a little challenge. I have zero faith this system works fully because of the unnecessarily vague instructions. Stop and think of how long it took us to figure out the previous cloning system. For those of you that weren't around when everything was just getting played with.... we spent weeks, bordering on months, debating how the old system worked. TO THIS DAY WE DO *NOT* KNOW HOW THE OLD SYSTEM WORKS. A weaponsmith can take his resources and tell you exactly what will pop out the other end. We can only hazard a guess and know that this will be better doing it this way as opposed to this way.
To prove my point, I'll give 1 million credits (on the intrepid server) to anyone who can give me a mathematical algorithm for how the DNA samples combine to form the DNA template *AND* how the DNA template + resources generate the clone's stats. Thats going from 5 DNA samples with 10 listed statistics (and at least 1 hidden statistic.. the CL of donor) to 1 DNA template (tell me what the stats on it will be), then 1 DNA template + 2 resources (with 4 stats each) to 1 completed clone. Time limit is Sunday at midnight eastern.
I'm not talking about high stat pairs put into the correct slots. I'm talking how the Hardiness 957 number influences the end product because as I stated earlier, we know how to make a good item, just not HOW it works, yet every other profession can plug numbers into a formula and know what is going to pop out (feel pretty safe in saying that, I've seen weaponsmiths take resource stats and state a final outcome).
Unless something changed very recently, this system on Test suffers the same problem. You've been given 5 wood objects and told to test it. Test what?
Re-read my post, and it sounds more combative than I wanted. And I also don't mean to belittle the time you guys are spending on Test to do your experimenting... I'd be there if the devs would get a **edit**ing clue and allow character copies to Test.
I just think it is silly that the "testing" isn't really testing... its guessing... and I fear despite all of your great experimenting we're going to get a buggy system on Live by the very design of how the devs are expecting things to be tested.
Thanks for the testing y'all on TC. Glad someone is doing something and making the information public.
I have to agree that it feels like being given a DIY kit from your local hardware store but the box has no instructions and no image of what the piece of furniture is supposed to be. So you sit down and scatter the peices of hard wood and screws ect.. across the floor as you always do and try to figure out what the hell your making plus how it all fits together. We know that the wood peices are put together with the screws but no idea how to do it.
One person comes out with a pair of cupboards while another person ends up with a few sets of shelves.

Yeah but you can have white cupa so we can basically make taun tauns. Too bad they can't be mounted yet cause I'd love to have one rather than my kaadu.
**edit**, that just about made my day (yeah, sad life I know

I prefer this system... It makes the veterans of this profession that much more skilled at their job. Someone once asked me to write a guide to Creature Handler and I just groaned at them... I guess thats when I knew I had accumulated a lot of knowledge about that profession.
The same can be said here. When someone asks you to build them a Rancor with XYZ resists and123 specials withABC HAM.... and you've been doing this long enough, you can respond... "Yeah, that's gonna take 12 hours to gather the necessary DNA from 4 different planets".
How impressive is that?
Not much to report today. I spent the entire day making one each of the 69 clones to get screenshots of the colors, find low level limits and test for taming bugs. There's four clones with no owner for player bugs keeping me from making a couple of the clones,a couple with the old too many stored pets, and a few with odd behavior (under cl 10 not tamable by novice or high cl tamable at too low skill.) However, almost all of the clones were tamable at some level and onlythree of the ones I could makewere not tamable at all. I've reported all of these to Kaldarin. Otherwise, the crafting of the dna templates themselves seems to be working well. I've not seen any odd behaviors in the stats since that was fixed the other day. All-in-all it looks very encouraging.
Tomorrow I'll get the low level limits and colors posted on my website and I plan to make a trip to Dath or Endor to try and push the upper limits of the cloning system.
I am so excited about all these new changes! Thank you so much for all your hard work!

It's not that I don't like the system, i think it's going to be great. However while im not asking for the step by step guide for putting the DIY kit together it would have been nice to at least have a photo of what it's supposed to be on the box itself so I have an idea of what goes where.
Talthazar I have 2 questions.
1: Is the CL of the final creature you create dynamically created from its stats? Or is it purely figured from the CL of the dna? (caps and minimums aside)
i.e. if it is dynamic, you should be able to take all CL25 dna, make a pet, dont experiment, then take similar CL25 dna, make the pet and experiment it up and get 2 diff results for end creature CL.
If it's based purely on the dna it would seem like you could take all CL25 dna, crit fail all over the place, and get really cruddy ham and still be stuck with a CL25 pet in the end.
2: While they're doing these changes why aren't they giving us the information about the weight of the stats on the dna for each final bar? Every single other crafting class gets this info. They need to put it in something like this (numbers are estimates):
Mental Capacity:
Mental DNA Slot:
