Thread: Getting to know you and your profession!
Hi Tiggs,
I feel that AFK (non)play is my personal biggest gripe. I don't mind when people go off for 10-15 minutes to do something that comes up while they are playing, however those that spend the majority of their time AFK are rather annoying. If I go into a Cantina and there is a sea of AFK tags I tend not to stay for very long as it just makes the experience plain dull.
When a Cantina is flooded with AFKers, especially the ones who beg for tips, healing or people to watch them, it kills the atmosphere. People can not always see a live person in the sea as they are drowned out by the spam generated.
Just as bad is when the AFKers stand in the foyer and not many people get past them into the main cantina where the live Entertainers are, this can cause the people who are actually trying to play the game to not get the XP they need to advance. It also makes their game experience much less enjoyable as no-one gets through to them that they can talk to. If they decide to compete with the bots in the foyer then they get drowned out by the spam.
I have followed the thread corresponding to this one in the Dancer forums so I know you are seeing if something can be done about this scourge. I thank you for your efforts on our behalf.
I think it is the only possible hopefor savingthe entertainerprofessions.

Certainly a good start.
Yep, it would be a start.

Oh! To the trolls that posted, sorry I am all out of troll food today. Guess we will have to buck heads another day.
That's ok, I wasn't hungry anyway.
So, are you saying that as far as you are concerned everything is fine with CH? Hmmm, interesting. You know it says alot that you have to ask friends in game about CH. Yeah, I know. TKM is much more fun with a crafting profession. Try playing CH sometime. It might just change your attitude. Oh, you do not want to grind another profession? Ok. It is not like you are being paid for it or anything. Do I sound like a digruntled Troll? Yeah. Funny, I only troll the CH forums. I wonder why that is?
Nope, that is not what I am saying. Please don't twist my words around. Thanks!
I was just making a statement about how odd I thought it was they never complained. Perhaps I should have added these people are the first to complain about anything *shrugs*. Anyway, I am here to gather what this communityfeels iswrong with their game play. I am nothere tosay your feelings aren't valid about your game play just collecting information to help myself better understand your profession.
I also have MCH friends in game, no im not a CH but it is my dream profession, and im probably going to go for it soon.
My MCH friends in game never complain about it, IN game also. But yesterday i made the comment of dropping one of my professions and going 'MCH', My friends responce was (and mind you HE IS a MCH)
"Why? dont you know it's a broken profession? but if you really want to, i have some awesome pets you can have, but they are useless too"
I dont think he complains about it in game because he has come to understand his profession is broken, but he plays it because he likes collecting the 'useless' pets. Pets are supposed to be tanks, but you have to constantly heal them to keep them alive, weather they are fighting PLAYERS or MOBS, it doesnt make a difference they seem to be fairly under powered.
just a Dr's 2 cents on a profession I want to see fixed

It's not that you need to be more "professional" around us. It's that you have to be careful about how you say things. And I'm sorry, but just telling us out of the blue that your CH friends don't complain...how do you expect someone to take that?
After the hate CH's had to endure last year, with the intential or unintential insults from Thunderheart, to being revamped for the sake of the whining and not for the sake of a combat revamp. You tend to be a bit defensive...
Seems like you will be typing this often...

No it is not what I am saying but your decision is made about it and even hearing it from the person that typed it out won't change your mind. I have no problem agreeing on disagreeing. I do however have a problem with my words being twisted around =) As far as being biased, you picked the wrong person. I think what is being forgotten here is my job is to relay information from you to the Dev team and vice versa.
"If you jump all over the negative factors you are just making a fool of yourself."
You just jumped all over Aahk's "negative factors". Love pointing these types of statements out. See words are a funny thing. You just said that person who points out negative is a fool. I mean really you just flamed yourself.
"if you consider all the factors she has presented, and become a slightly more optomistic student of human behavior, you may find you can clearly see how to take such a comment."
You ever seen an abused dog? One that has been beaten within an inch of its life routinely? It flinches a lot. CH will too. If you are a CH then you know how that comment could have been taken very very very very wrong.
Many of the more vocal CH (including myself) have already said that it is delightful to see Tiggs try to communicate past that one set of words. She has already posted back on the subject itself twice. It is more than we got for any other miscommunication in the past. I for one, am taking it as a mis-speak.
We have instructed her that many CH just do not bother complaining to friends in game. It is useless.
We cannot even agree to organize any kind of protest or what to protest about. Boycotting BE penalizes a profession that mostly is working as is. Except their monster non-CH pets do make being CH useless. Rallies have been outlawed in the new TOS policies. We cannot agree to whether PvP, PvE, or Taming is a priority. God forbid I try to get support for the Faction Grind penalty of CH.
We cannot even complain here without other sunshiny CH simply blowing us off as whiners. What motivation they have for being even more dismissive is an unknown. Jobs positions with SOE can be my only guess.
I can see me constantly complaining to the 2-3 friends I have left in the game. I would quickly be friendless. The only thing to do for anyone is say its a JTL day and hope that the Combat Docs come Friday.

By "negative factors" I was referring not to negative attributes of a person, but rather an issue--therefore my point was not to avoid pointing out problems, but rather to avoid focusing too much when tiggs mentions one data point of a problem. I did not mean to flame anyone--but the single point I will concede is that I should have used a different phrase than "make a fool of yourself". for this, I apologize.

I have been master CH since I started this game in January, and I certainly see how it could have been taken very wrong--that is what my post is about. I am not one of the sunshiny folks you mention below--I see reason to complain, but usually my complaints are voiced by others to a sufficient degree.

This is what Aakhperkare could have said. I agree 100%

I could have said a lot of things, not necessarily things you think I should have said. Because I don't particularly care for your arrogance on the matter, plus the fact that this hardly hadanything to do withbeing an "optomisticstudent of human behavior."
It's not being negative, it's reading something for what is was, which was a poorly formulated statement. It's not like I was the only one that reacted in the same way, because it didread as beingcondensending. It doesn't take a negative person, or a sunshine person to realize that...
