A few little DNA sampling tidbits I discovered in my journey to MBE:

1) Get buffed...If you can't make sure you have armor with high Kinetic resists.

2) Don't use a Speeder or Swoop...Use a pet mount...Group with it and have it follow you. When a big nasty decides your needle wasa little too annoying, it is REALLY nice to have your pet standing right next to you for a quick escape.

3) Here are a couple of critters you can sample for a lot of XP:

Giant Crystal Snake: I think they gave around 300 xp each, and you get some nice DNA to boot (Good for Poison). I had fairly good luck getting these after my first level was completed.

Surefooted Brakaset: This was the gold mine...541 xp each...Once youfinish Sampling II, get buffed and go to Dath. They aren't too hard to find. In fact I usually found several lairs next to each other. They don't aggro too much, and even when they do just hit /peace and run. They won't follow you far. Just watch out for the Rancors and nasty lizzards that you might run into getting away from the Brakasets! They WILL run after you for a while! These guys made that 80k of sampling xp go pretty quickly. It took me only two evenings, working for two hours each night, to get Sampling IV. Just make sure you get buffed BEFORE you get to Dath....There have never been a lot of people there any of the times I went, and you might be a little frustrated after spending a few thousand credits to get there and find that there are no doctors buffing!

yes - surefoot brackasets are great for xp and the dna is very useful in making pets. you can get their missions on the terminals at about 18k each - you need to be grouped with some people so make sure you join a group in coro before flying out. the best thing to do is sample all the spawns around the lair and then hop on ur ride to the next one, sample all of them and ride back - they should have respawned. if you have trouble with them, try looking further down the terminals into craggy bolmas (they have light armour), so if you can make a few bucks there to.

I like the Armor and Buffs idea because I tried to go sample a little bit today and they kept chasing me down and wouldn't ya know I ended up incap lol. I think i'm also going to try the pet mount idea. But in regards to that, what is a good pet mount to make? I'm not even at sampling I so all the samples i'm getting are either from gurrcats, butterplies, or paralopes. Can anyone make suggestions as to what I should make with just these DNA samples? Also, can someone please refer me to a source that I can read up on the Samples themselves, I'm confused as to what all the stats on the samples mean and also which samples go better where(in the prowess, phisique slots, etc) Thanks

all mounts are the same speed - except when sprinting. Carrion spats are the fastest when sprinting followed bythe Kaadu.

If you want some good dna results far as exp goes , try going to dantooine and sample there , endor, andDathomir . The places i listed are kinda risky cause of what might aggro on to you but for most part offers good dna exp . For most of those places i bring along a lvl 61 razor cat with me, and yes im also a master ch. Having the pet on guard gives you a little safer chance in most areas . If your getting some dna and the creature turns on you having the pet ready to attack when needed will allow you to last longer in many areas . Also offers you time to get on a speeder or run into a house etc .

You might try those spots and see how it goes with that.

Ive been doing sampling for the past few days, and have to say sampling 1 and 2 are the hardest to get done.

Once you've got sample 2, head to Dathomir and do normal brackasets. Surefoot brackasetsare too hard to sample at this level, but the normal ones give a good 300-350xp per sample, hardly ever agro, and sometimes give upto 4 samples per creature!

Someone suggested getting Mask Scent(the scout exploration tree skill) to assist with sampling. Does mask scent help a lot? And if so, is it worth it if I only got to exploration II, only because I already had the extra AP planned on going in to Merchant. I could drop some merchant skills to get Mask Scent though if it's worth it, any thoughts?

If you plan on sampling any of the higher level agressive creatures (i.e. Mutant Rancors) then mask scent is a MUST, and I'd say you'd need to have all 4 boxes, *plus* +25 mask scent clothing.

*edit* while getting mask scent will not make it easier to do the actual sampling, it will make it a lot easier to get close to those agro mobs without being noticed.

if possible get master scout, it will help you out greatly. i have trouble getting near mobs of mutant rancors with exp 4, +25 clothing. also jawa beer can add another +10 on top (food is extra) and so that could help too.

Weee on in the beginning of time bio-engineers used to be able to sample people's pets. The pet never died and never attacked you. Needless to say DNA sample was the first tree completed by early pioneers in the BE profession. Unfortunately that caught the eye of the all mighty dev. WACK with the nerf bat. Now sampling DNA is a painful, horrible experience. Sorry

I used to get tons of xp from the goofy elephant looking things on Lok. I got lots of points from those wild monkey men there as well. In fact everything on Lok gives good points. Basically sample anything that is red con to you. The higher level the animal is, obviously, the more points you'll get.Get the highest mask scent you can. If not now, you'll need it later when you go to make those uber animals. Get brandy for the mind and jawa beer for the mask scent boost. They are a must. Muon gold works too if you don't mind the downer. Sampling DNA is a mind buster.

Make gnorts with the DNA you collect. I believe gnorts can be made at low level BE. If not, find the animal that uses the least amount of resources. You'll get crafting points. Resample the animal you made from your inventory. You'll get more sample points and the animal won't attack you. If will most likely poof after one sample but what were you going to do with it anyway?

Good luck from the oldest BE on my server.

The trick to muties is to crawl. Once you're inside15m you can stand up. Typically you'll be able to roam around pretty freely. NEVER run up to a mutie.

If your mask breaks keep still until the timer resets then mask again. If you have a pet out make the pet stay far away from the mutie mob. The AoE will agro your pet every time. Jawa beer and a full set of mask scent clothes are a must of course. Have brandy with you as well. The mind boost comes in handy.

Sampling muties is an art of mind and patience.
