Thread: Getting to know you and your profession!

Tiggs,

I've been a DE for a long time. It was the class I wanted to be as soon as I logged on. However its about a year later and I'm still one box away from mastering the profession. The reason: I never felt needed. I sell more droid chassi for decoration than I do full droids. Heck, I even mastered Architech in a month because I needed the money and there was a market.

Short form, people think droids are cool but no one I know really needs them.

Personally I wish they could be more like the new starship system. You buy a chassis and then buy modules to be put into it. Heck go one step further. Use those new skill chips from JTL as a requirement for making/using the appropriate modules.

ie Got a Droid with a module for skinning animals. Before he can do it you need to get a scout or ranger to burn a chip with that skill. Then if you are a scout you get a cool bonus. If you are not a scout you can use your droid to harvest at some level about par with a novice scout.
BTW Dont restrict the modules, everyone wants to blow up their own mouse droid, just make it not very effective for those that are not trained at it.

The last major droid revamp helped a lot and JTL looks like it will help some too but I'd really like to be a bit more useful.

Personally, I would much rather see this change and have the macro system untouched. I like macros, I just don't like that we are set up to be 100% macroable and the position it puts us in. A ban policy on botting and then a follow up to handle the core problems that are causing the Ent botting in both the Combat thingy and the Dancer revamp would be the best plan for Ents and the game as a whole.

First ban botting, then fix Ent healing and our leveling. *shrug* It just needs to happen.

But see leaving the macro system untouched. Leaves AFK looting, and all sorts of other afk actions that go on currently. Which they need to fix. A ban on afking not only increases reporting from us on bots and the like. But there will be a lot from others that run into people afking spawns and stuff. They still NEED to fix the macro system so that you can't afk with it forever.

But yes a statement about afking and a ban so that CS could do something about it would be good.(although I'm not sure the CSRs would do anything)

That's ok, I wasn't hungry anyway.

So, are you saying that as far as you are concerned everything is fine with CH? Hmmm, interesting. You know it says alot that you have to ask friends in game about CH. Yeah, I know. TKM is much more fun with a crafting profession. Try playing CH sometime. It might just change your attitude. Oh, you do not want to grind another profession? Ok. It is not like you are being paid for it or anything. Do I sound like a digruntled Troll? Yeah. Funny, I only troll the CH forums. I wonder why that is?

Nope, that is not what I am saying. Please don't twist my words around. Thanks!

I was just making a statement about how odd I thought it was they never complained. Perhaps I should have added these people are the first to complain about anything *shrugs*. Anyway, I am here to gather what this communityfeels iswrong with their game play. I am nothere tosay your feelings aren't valid about your game play just collecting information to help myself better understand your profession.

I think the lack of complaints may also stem from the type of player that gets master CH and keeps it. Most are fun loving people and easy to get along with. Most of the complaints they have with CH can and are worked around easily. Most goals one sets for themselves as a master CH are short term and can be gained within a acceptible amount of time. I myself was CH for a very long time and enjoyed it but I try professions to make sure I know what is involved with them and if I like them so it was dropped for another at the time. CH is a fun and challenging profession in itself but I beleive if I ever had a suggestion for it, it would be to allow its participation as a profession more in the GCW to foster more interaction between CH and other players. CH was one of the most personally rewarding professions I have played in game, I just wish I was able to keep it and also be a effective support player for groups (we always seem to lack that extra 20SP to keep what we like).

Entertainer Specific....

The ID line of Entertainer I use very very rarely. Master Entertainer has no boosts to the ID line.

The Dances at Master Entertainer really aren't worth the extra sp to get to it. (what with the dances looking really really bad to everyone but you.)

And of course..

There are 2 top issues for me and they are very very connected.

1. The Ability to macro all the game mechanics involved in dancing. To get to Master Entertainer having only copy/pasted a macro and hit a button once a day.(Except for that ID line)

2. Respect from Players and Devs. #1 removes pretty much any and all respect for Entertainers.

We have no idea what the Devs view our role in SWG. So we can't tailor our suggestions to help them. Our suggestions go ignored. Our Feedback threads get no replies. Our bugs get no answers. Our Corrs aren't allowed to tell us anything (and most of the time they don't know the answers any ways). We were forgotten for the new FS quests until we made a fuss and then they gave us freakin Wound healing in the FS skills ??? Our XP can be turned into FSxp but there are no quests we can do once there with out picking up some other class. Our new content that we have waited forever for is the ONLY content with a XP cost to it... We have got NO word on the fabled Hutt Casino... No word on the promised macro changes. And this just from the Devs....

The players think we are all AFK spammers and bots or Alts. A lot resent having to come to the afk spam filled cantinas. Many out right despise and hate us.

What is our role in SWG ? And why as a new outlet for a "social" style of play, as a exciting and unique new addition to MMORPGs.... Why are we completely ignored ?

Tiggs

On this I didnt take offense, only because I know how I behave ingame and I assumed many are like myself.

also keep in mind that the ch have been in acryogenic chamberfor a very long time lol most people have just shrugged it off ingame by now. last dec/jan I was upset at what happenned and only discussed it with 2 friends ingame, both have left the game :-(

Also after the combat revamp news and all the jedi and FS character changes that has been the focus of many complaints ingame by the majority of people.

So if I may give a poor analogy lol

Imagine your discussing the current conflict in Iraq with your friends and one of them says "Oh yea how do you think I feel" "I just had my gallbladder removed and im pissed"

as you can see there is a time and place for everything and in this point of time venting ingame about ch has passed, its time was 11 months ago lol

Maybe they don't complain because their spirits have been crushed. Once you learn how to make yourself dead inside, things don't bother you so much.

The lambda shuttle skimmed low over the horizon. All was silent save for the quiet whine of the ship's engines and the occasional blip from the pilot's range finder. Despite the impending danger, the Mon Calamari commandos in the shuttle remained calm as the automated electronics in their launcher pistols cycled through systems checks. Each of the shuttle's occupants knew that this was likely to be their last mission. The odds of their survival was low given the expected opposition.

"We'll have visual in a bit, and then be landing in a nearby clearing," intoned the pilot. "Keep the comms clear. Surprise is your biggest asset. Don't forget that the Princess is counting on you. May the Force be with you."

The shuttle's wings folded gracefully to its sides and the shuttle slowly descended into a small clearing. The commandos quickly filed out of the ship and spread out to various locations in the clearing crouching behind whatever cover the forest provided. The shuttle then gently lifted off and gracefully unfolded its wings. As the shuttle cleared the treetops, the commandos were rocked by a loud explosion as the shuttle burst into flames.

There at the edge of the clearing, an Imperial rifleman stood holding his T21 rifle. Flanking the rifleman were several unarmed individuals wearing composite armor. Behind them, a couple troopers carried stun batons. The commandos quickly readied their flamethrowers, but they knew there was little chance of surviving. The Imperials had brought Teras Kasi Masters and Fencers to the fight. Flamethrowers and launcher pistols would do little good against these foes.

Actually, I already posted, but I did want to say this as well.

Current bugs, and "good" Deed information are badly needed as well. Our biggest "bug" right now was the removal of our named resources from our level 6 Droid Data Modules.

I didn't want this to be missed in our larger posts about Droid Decay.

Tiggs:

Almost every PvE mobis easily solo'ed in this gamedue to...

  • High armor resists

  • Large HAM buffs from a doctor

  • Defense stacking templates

  • High damage from our weapons

Since PvE is a joke (andsolo groups are everywhere) then the Creature Handler profession is also not worthanything in PvP.

If the combat revampever balances all of the above so that PvE is a challenging again on the high-level planets, then the Creature Handlers will probably be much happier (ie. won't be the laughing stock of PvP).

So don't just ban the buff bots, ban the afk looters too, crack down on ALL unattended play, bots of ALL sorts. Its not a problem with the macro system, its a problem with them not enforcing thier own rules.

Welcome, Tiggs

First off, I love playing a fencer toon -

My issues have all been voiced (very well) by others in this thread - but I'd like to throw in my .02 as well, just to help the petition.

1. with current composite resists, and psg's, we need a reasonable AP1 weapon - either the gaffi, the stun baton, or preferably a new BLADED weapon with similar stats to the gaffi stick, but with AP1. "VIbroSword" comes to mind.

2. If we could change the redundant spin attack to apply the STUNstate as opposed to blind, that would be fantastic.

3. loot dots suck - shouldn't be a requirement to do dmg in pvp.

4. it's annoying not to be able to move during long (but cool) animations.

bonus issue number 5. I would REALLY REALLY REALLY like to see a reason to become a Fencer instead of a TKM. I'm a fencer instead of Swordsman because I already have Rifleman to do serious dmg and AOE attacks, and my rifleman toon wanted more defense to be able to survive both PVE and PVP, fencer has more defense, speed, and accuracy than a swordsman. I'm a fencer instead of a Pikeman for the same reasons, and because i didn't want to be scrambling for loot all the time (to get decent weapons). I constantly ask myself, "WHY AM I FENCER, AND NOT A TKM???" and here's some reasons why i ask that question:

Right now our claim to fame is dodge,AP0 stun dmg, higher state defenses, and some super-fly animations

TKM gets decent state defenses + melee/ranged defense (highly stackable), KD,more toughness, AP1, more accuracy, more speed, attacks that specificallytarget MIND, all of our states with the addition of "stunned", and the meditation line for healing and powerboost. where is the incentive to use fencer as your main melee profession unless you're stacking defenses with pistoleer? might as wellgo TKM and stack defense with pistol/fencer and always use TKM offense. if you really need more defense vs KD or Dizzy, there's food for that and you'll be an even better tank than a fencer + [whatever profession]

if we're meant to be all defense and no offense ('cause that's what we are right now) - then why is there another class (TKM) that is arguably just as good as us at tanking, but has significantly more benefits? +30 more defense to most states and AP0 stun dmg is not really a good enough reason to choose fencer overTKM,as i see it. sorry if this looks like a nerf call, i'm just trying to paint a picture of how some of us are feeling. I've got a case of 'Profession Envy'.

I want to see fencer become something more than a 'dabble for defense' profession...

this has combat revamp written all over it...
