I've been having some problems with it lately on yavin. It's not kreetle-caliber aggravating or anything, but you'd think a master ranger with a BE camo/maskscent shirt wouldn't have to reapply every two minutes.
I only go to tat if I absolutely gotta. All those kreetles... it's a horrible, horrible exercise in paranoia. I have nightmares about my toon having nightmares while I'm logged off. Say, maybe it's time I went to bed.

Does anyone know how long mask scent lasts? Im trying to make a macro that keeps activating it, but I need to know how long it lasts for. Thanks in advance.

It depends on how much scout you have. At Master I can run a looping macro for 200 seconds.

I name it Constantmaskscent
/maskscent;
/maskscent;
/pause 200;
/macro constantmaskscent
That removes and reapplies it every 3 minutes ish.
I have to say tho I have been roaming about Dath here lately using Camo kits and they have been working nicely. Only had it break once. Might have to get them a new try for my hunting pleasure.

I can second this. Recent patches to camo seems to have made it much more valuable than it has been for the year prior to pre-CU. Camo now seems to last a very very long time, thirty minutes is not unusual to see, also it does not, asa rule, break when you go into combat. If you have access to camo use it instead of Maskscent.
Good hunting and clear skies.

My template is MC/MBH/Pistols 0404. So, as part of that template I have 4000 in scout.
I've found that if I DO NOT use mask scent, I rarely ever get aggro from mobs below level 72... it still happens but it isn't common.
If I do use mask scent, I almost always get it broken almost immediately and get aggro'd by whatever level the mob is... and often his buddies. The same holds true for camo kits it seems.
So, it doesn't seem right that my odds of getting aggro should be less when I use mask scent vs when I don't. I could understand making mask scent basically useless against mobs over a certain CL, but why make it counter-productive?
So, mobs are less likely to attack a player who's CL is high relative to the mob's... or so it seems. At the same time, they are highly likely to aggro upon breaking a mask scent or camo, and they are very likely to do that for a non ranger player. Which ends up meaning that this scout skill iscounter-productive to a player in the wilderness as I see it. This makes no sense to me.
It is not likely to work when you'd need it, and is likely to fail and cause aggro when you wouldn't otherwise need it... what's the upside to mask scent today?
I guess it can be useful to wrack up scout XP for FS grinders... I've seen that utilization quite a bit lately.

Its in the bug thread. basically grey con creatures (who will never atack normally) can still break mask scent which causes them to instantly attack.
So it is a two-fold problem.
1. Grey-cons should not break maskscent.
2. Animals should not instantly attack once mask scent is broken. You should get a chance that they instantly attack, but you should also get a chance to stand still and re-mask.
Edit:
However, you may want to consider that at 4000 scout your maskscent mod may not be high enough to stay up against anything near your level anyway, and the new gray-con addition takes care of the rest. Since maskscent is part of a basic profession it really should not be effective against high level creatures unless you have the advanced version (Ranger mods).
