My personal agenda has nothing to do with my job as correspondent. Let's be clear here, my job is not to report what you personally think either. I have, in fact, relayed the concern of documentation to Keldarin, but... Not everyone agrees with you, as can be clearly seen on this thread, I have also relayed that. I put things in my top 5 report, that I don't personally agree with, but they had the most votes on the top 5 thread so they went in and I try not to color those with my personal opinion. Here, however, I feel I have as much right to state my opinion as any other BE.

Er, what? Not everyone agrees with Sumo, okay, how many actively disagree with Sumo and think that BE should not have adequate experimentation documentation?

Unfortunately the lack of documention gives devs a dodge. If what something is SUPPOSED to do isn't documented - no one can hold it up and say....ummmm, it ain't. That's typically WHY programmers document, it's critcal to the testing and development process as a whole. Given bugcreep from test onto live it's crossed my mind more than once there may not be ANY documention, even internally - thiswould be catastrophic but might well explain some of the end results we've seen.

Anyone remember getting a straight answer when we were asking what tissues were SUPPOSED to do - so we could like test them? We never did - cause they weren't working.

I don't mind a little experimentation and a learning curve, but experience is a great teacher - and my experience in the BE profession so far has been - it no workiee so good.

I'll throw my vote in with the voices crying for clear, concise documention - there are plenty enough variables in the process for a learning curve even with everything spelled out, wehave to be able toverifyit's working as intended.

The unintended concequence of slipshod (or no) documentation from the player's side is 'exploits'. I'll be double fudged dipped if you can accuse any player of 'exploiting' if the system isn't spelled out about what is suppose to happen and the system does indeed allow something to occur. Obviously some 'exploits' are so glaring that any player with two brain cells left to rub together should recognize it as such - but when talking about a system ascomplex as cloning, god only knows where the line is between intended - and OMG - you made WHAT?

Baby DNA anyone?

1) We need documentation, from the developer, giving a general overview of how things are supposed to work. The class is big enough, the resources wide enough, the dna sampling diverse enough, added tothe widely variable results that even a paint-by-number manual wouldn't make this class a cookie cutter profession.

2) Odd results: made two creatures last night, using 5 dna samples from the same creature (Surefoot Brackaset), experimented 2 points in each catagory, placed in the same skin (Bocatt). Ended up with the same resists, but one did 50 pts more damage and had nearly 1k more Ham in each catagory, but was CL33 to the "inferior" creatures CL34.

3) Documentation.

4) Knowing CL, at least on the dna sample, is critical.

5) Mask Scent is problematic, and not just for us.

Anyone else noticing pre-patch clones not having their specials anymore? Two high level rancors that I made for a friend seems to have no specials at all now.

I got enough samples from a mantigrue screecher to make a template but didn't get the plague strike special attack even though all 5 dna samples had it listed.

It's possible this happened because the plauge strike is listed as special attack #2 and special attack #1 listed unknown on every sample.

Bugs -

1.) rancors don't keep the color given to them in the crafting process

2.) using matrigue screecher DNA doesn't give the uber disease to pets

that's all i got

Not so sure about #2. I managed to get Strong Disease from them...though I don't have a proven method of just how yet.

My list:

  1. Unable to sample from pre-patch deeds.

  2. Pre-patch deedslost theirspecial attacks.

  3. CL display on the samples and the DNA template are needed.

  4. Documentation! Please!

  5. Rules about Armor transfer are especially foggy/buggy.

Cant sample from any BE created creatures anymore , but the options still there to do so.

I tested this out last night, and it's both right AND wrong. You CANNOT sample from any pre-patch creatures. It says you're sampling and you wait but you get no success or fail message.

On any creature crafted SINCE the patch you can indeed sample from BE created creatures. I did it myself.

I just took my old pre-patch creatures and tamed and then trained them for CH xp (you CH/BEs do that, right?).

So, in translation: Can't sample from pre-patch creatures, but you CAN from post-patch creatures. This is basically a non-issue once all the pre-patch creatures run out.

Had a veryhard time with sampling last night (I haveSampling 4). Had a LOT of failed attempts, and pretty much every successful attempt resulted in aggro.

I agree, there needs to be CL ratings on the DNA samples and the final generic template for the great reasons already given.

I would also like to see a little documentation on the system. I certainly don't want a guided tour, but I'd at least like a point to start from.

And a new bit of fun relating to sampling and vehicles... I was trying to sample an aggro mob when a vehicle roared past and sparked the aggro. It ran a few metres after the vehicle, then turned right around and killed me. I hope that's not going to be a common occurance.

Otherwise, had fun with playing with the new system and got a few interesting results.

one issue/bug I haven't seen mentioned yet is that there is a chance that a clone will poof on a failed sample attempt. I had this happen both in my inventory and while the clone was sitting on display at the house.

some questions I have that maybe others can answer

  • Does experimentation increase the CL of the pet beyond what the HAM and resists should make it (complexity of the generic DNA templet)? I have had a CL 15 clone with low resists and 800 for a ham and a CL 8 clone with the same resists and a 1.5k ham. The CL 15 was experimented on but the CL8 was not experimented on

  • Does the Fierceness value controll the CL of the pet or is it the actuall damage that contributes to the CL? Would a clone that had a fierceness of 38 and a power of 300 be a higher CL than a clone with a fiercness of 300 and a power of 38?

  • Has anyone nailed down exactly how to get specials to pass to the DNA templet?

  • Has there been any word if the creatures with "unknown attack" for special attack 1 are being looked into

thankyou

Hiya All!

Volkmar Starlight, 3-2-3-2 Bio eng reporting in.

Here are my personal Experiences after the patch:

-Gone are the indications on schematics about what attribute of the resource is good for the item. This , however, IS NOT A BIO ENGINEER ISSUE. And probably a bug. My scout friend had those same information suddenly vanish from the traps he make.

-Each creature has different variables and you do not know what is best for what until you sample them. I suggest to all of you to start taking notes because they are complex. Crazed durni for example are excellet for psychological (if that does something) with a dependability of 950+. Bolle bols are good for aggressiveness.. much better than snorbals or bols that are CL higher.

-I tried to get 5 Above Average DNA from a bolle bol and make a bolle bol out of it... Granted i am not a master but what i created was not even near half a real bolle bol. (got 4k of ham and 150-160 damage). Either they changed Bolle bols or then you DO NOT get a copy of the creature using all same DNA (yes.. specials and armor is same tough). One could say "you used not so good dna and you not a master" true... still Above average should give me something.. above average! not below half of a normal Bolle bol. Yes me not a master.. so only masters can make good creatures? i do not think so. I managed to get a 6k Kima and a 5K jax ehehehe

-Are there ANY variation using skins of carious type? or all depends on the DNA? I mean... if i use rancor DNA to make a jax i obtain jax with same HAM, same damage, same Specials and same armor as a rancor? only that looks and souns like a jax??

-Colors: what is the deal with colors? yes i can color my creatures but when you tame them, they return to the default color! is this intended? I really hope not! (would be the first Furniture item that can be colored.. ehehehe poor architects)

-About DNA sampling; i read someone got 1 success and then 15 failures: answer: was your backpack full? because, seemingly, you get a failure message if you sample DNA and your pack is full. Happened to me at least. Beside that... i had no problem with sampling. i did it fine all night with no problems (but get killed for success-aggro.. but that is not a bug).

-CLs on DNA would be nice.. especially as i can sample from my own creation that then can get mixed with wild varieties. (by the way... now it opens ways to some interesting second and third generation sampling.. i could get a whoopy 1004 on dependability on a bolle bol created with crazed durni DNA in psychology)

This is all.

Thanks for the attention.

Sampling Rancors seems to suck big time now. Haven't been able to get one sample post patch.

Mask Scent, not a BE issue but breaks way too easy now.

VHQ Samples have the worse results on them.

Other than that, life is good.
