Seems to me the #1 reason as to why most BE's enjoy being a BE is because it's complex and not spelled out for them. I would very much prefer to be a scientist (or artist even) playing with stats than like every other crafting class, personally.

Experimentation makes absolutely zero sense now on clones, and is very, very chancy on items in the tissue line. On clones, successes on experimentation can yield results of nothing, or negatives applying to the areas being experimented. Failures yield results across the board, from understandable decreases to nothing to increases.

Experimenting on pet stims is far, far less successful now. I fail more, using the same resources and equipment, than I did previously. If my expected failure rate is 0%, why am I failing closer to 25% of the time? It doesn't matter if I do it one point at a time, or max out how many points I can experiment with.

I have said before and will reiterate -- I do not find blind roulette entertaining. I enjoy knowing what the clearly defined limits are, and seeing how high within those limits I can acheive. I think it unreasonable to expect only the Bio-Engineering profession to have to rely on guesstimates on how hours of resource gathering and work is going to turn out, most especially considering how risky that resource gathering is.

Maybe one of you can answer some of my questions?

1. When I use 5 templates with 5 different special attacks on it, which specials will my final creature get? I think it's the psychology template...

2. I made a graul with 5 fierce piket protector templates which aren't bad. The graul was lvl 25 and hat 2.5k HAM, so reeeealy crappy! how's that?

3. Made a kimo with 4k Ham with bad templates (lvl 40) what is the highest you made? Are prenerved kimos (15k, 1200 dmg) tamable with "milk" clothing?

That's all, plz answer

You need to divorce your personal agenda from the job of Correspondent. That isn't what your job is supposed to be.

My personal agenda has nothing to do with my job as correspondent. Let's be clear here, my job is not to report what you personally think either. I have, in fact, relayed the concern of documentation to Keldarin, but... Not everyone agrees with you, as can be clearly seen on this thread, I have also relayed that. I put things in my top 5 report, that I don't personally agree with, but they had the most votes on the top 5 thread so they went in and I try not to color those with my personal opinion. Here, however, I feel I have as much right to state my opinion as any other BE.

My wife was busy and I was too excited to wait so I logged in with her char and started tinkering.

  • I agree with Sumo, I'd like some form of documentation. It doesn't necessarily need to be the end-all, be-all documentation, but just some general explanations would suffice.

  • Creature level needs to be on the DNA sample. There is NO reason for it not to be.

  • I created 4 creatures last night. Something tells me armor is bugged. No matter how much I experiment, I never get it:

    • Shear Mite w/ 5 Arachne Webmaster DNA samples. No armor.

    • Shear Mite w/ 5 Bark Mite Burrower DNA samples. No armor.

    • Kimogila w/ 5 Arachne Webmaster DNA samples. No armor.

    • Woolymander w/ 5 Bark Mite Burrower DNA samples. No armor.

  • I wish I would have known that the stats on Creature Food and Flora Food no longer mattered. I wouldn't have used the uber-ish stuff my wife had to make those creatures.

  • Was DNA sampling improved? I got 9 samples off of one Arachne Webmaster last night, and 8 twice off of 2 different Bark Mite Burrowers. I never got less than 3 samples before a creature died, and I was only agro'd off a "spook" twice.

  • Despite the great DNA I used in making that Kimo, it was still CL40 with 11k HAM and 400 damage.

I agree with Sumo, Tarot, and Vamir - I too would like some documentation. It doesn't have to all the way paint-by-numbers but a higher lvl of information, something with more depth, would make this profession 10x as enjoyable.

Talth, thats mostly what i wanted to hear from you, that you have forwarded the concern over documentation to his desk. Thank you. There is a rather large group of us that think the current in-game information is insufficent and I hope that you press this point home with Kel. We're seeing some odd results on CL15ish creatures with 5k+ HAMs that scream "bug" to me, but we don't have the means of figuring out if they are or aren't.

On the paint-by-numbers fear, because it was brought up by another person, I want to reiterate their point that the system has a large enough complexity and broadness that we aren't, in my opinion, in danger of becoming a class of cookie cutters. I've yet to get a DNA template experimented to full bars so there isn't the danger of same-old-same-old that happens with our tissues line. Then the DNA samples themselves insure a very wide range of possibilities. Resists / Specials mean a spectrum of possibilites, and knowing HOW this is done won't detract from the... well lets call it an artform... the art of seeing combinations to put together for something unique and interesting.

/chuckle and despite this complexity, I'm having very interesting results with picking at the interior mathematics of this system.

Here are my top 5 issues.

#1 Documentation please.

#2 CL needs to be listed on DNA samples and Generic Templates. CL should be updated during experimentation as well. As others have mention, we must be able to determine CL in order tobest serve our customers.

#3 Color not sticking after clone is tamed.

#4 Mind cost on DNA sampling is still too high IMO.

#5 Documentation pretty please.

Aside from these I think the new system is AWSOME!!! and would like to say"THANKS" to Talth and the Devs.

Hmm. no need to add a "top 5" for me. This is perfect, although if I were going to list one point twice, it'd be #2

Been said before but just to throw in my /vote on the issue (I heard during beta devs ignore any complaint that they haven't heard 10 times)...

HQ and VHQ DNA samples have EXCEPTIONALLY poor stats, or rather, of the 5 stat pairs, one pair will be use-able, and the other 4 pair will be garbage.

Suggestion: If current dna rating system is to remain unchanged, make dna sample items size 0. Adding major resource management requirements to an already VERY complicated class is just overkill.

I'd also suggest the Dev post some sort of guidelines regarding how the new clone system is supposed to work... I mean come on, he appologised for being "needlessly vague" but to date has supplied no further information!

I am a Master BE on Valcyn server, and this is what I noticed last night:

First of all, its extremely difficult (next to impossible) to get close enough to a mutant rancor to take a sample. Once close enough I have yet to get a successfull DNA sample.

Second, even very high DNA samples from Rancor, Rancor Youth, and Gnarled Rancor have HORRIBLE I have had only ONE sample with a 700+ characteristic (only 1 characteristic that high), most were from 300-500 with 1-2 characteristics of 600).

Third, I have to agree with the doccumentation. Any other crafting class knows in advance exactly what their end result will be based on the characteristics of the materials they use in the construction process. I think it is highly unfair for the BE profession to be such a guessing game.

Fourth, I made some Kimogillas last night using DNA samples from Rancor, Rancor Youth, and Gnarled Rancor. The highest result I was able to come up with was a 45CL (most were only 40 CL). None of these creatures was anywhere close to being desireable from a CH perspective. Tamed wild rancor are better than the results I was able to achieve, so are tamed wild graul and considering the CL vs abilities I would rather have a small pack of Greater Sludge Panthers.

This has come as a serious nerf to BE's with reguards of the creatures we can make compared to the wild counterparts.

I agree with Sumo as well, we need documentation.

Resist are inconsistent, when experimenting physique I was able to push Kinetic to 50 made one more attempt with an amazing success and ended up with 0 in Kinetic.

This has been confirmed as being intentional. Experimentation is gone on the final clone combine and the resources do not make a difference. Clone quality is completely based ont eh quality of the dna now.

If there is no experimentation and the quality of Meat/Flora don’t matter in the final combine then remove Critical Fails from the equation.

ugh, i got a few problems with this new system. let me list them in the order of their importance, 1 being really really needs to be fixed and 10 i can live with

1. the first problem with this new system is no CH customers anymore, i have a alternate account character that is a 2,2,1,1 CH and he cant even use a greater sludge panther....so a CH with 2,2,1,1 cant use a low level creature :/ greater sludge panthers arent that powerful guys why they such a high level? so everyones quitting ch and all the pets i make are junk anyways because they messed up ch so the best i can do is make furry bunnies for furniture

2. dna templates, i dont know why they had to go and change these but its messed up now, they probably got too lazy to make more since BE can now make a ton more pets.

3. experimenting, this is something that has an effect on crafters everywhere. the experimention is suppost to reflect your skill as a crafter, i dont understand why a master armorsmith has critical failures or low increases on his experiments because of that new meter, or why a BE does teh same, or why EVERYTHING does the same. the new crafting system basically made it so being a master doesnt help you with experimenting it only helps you with giving you one or 2 more schematics. that new experiment meter has to go it makes no sence!
