Thread: Be Issues Round 2 Revision
Can you add documentation for cloning to the list please?
It's all well and good that people like to find stuff out for them selves, but at least some basics, maybe even a walkthrough on building a low level critter with newbie resists and say Intimidation.
Other trades get to see what is effected by what ingredient (and we do with tissues), why don't we get to see what effect DNA has?
Yeah, this always seemed backwards to me - and I know folks that took up low levels of sampling specifically for this purpose.

I have DNA Sampling IV. I've done tons of it in the past month, and presumably I'm pretty good at it. I go out solo (too boring for groups, usually) and spice up myself on Muon Gold, guarded by two pets, and I sample and hope I don't get attacked. You know what's weird though? At DNA Sampling III (and below) I killed the creature I was sampling from FAR more often than getting the result of having them attack me. Anyone who remembers DNA Sampling one will remember the "one shot kill" that often happens....however, I don't prefer the behavior of DNA Sampling at DNA Sampling IV.
You see...I'd rather successfully receive a DNA Sample and KILL creatures than sample and have them attack me. Given the choice, I'd prefer to miss out on one or two samples rather than having every third creature go aggro on me...and with the new AI changes there is NO WAY to pull them off of you once they start attacking you. Since I was able to 'stealth kill' previous creatures with DNA Sampling I, is it possible for BEs to get the option to kill instead of aggro?
I mean...I'm supposedly pretty good at sampling. I'm a Field Scientist. This suggests I have greater control over my DNA Sampling process....and as someone who values my health, I would CHOOSE to have a creature die rather than attack me--call me crazy. Unfortunately, though I am successful more often and pull more DNA Samples per creature, I have to prepare to get jumped on every creature--it is more likely than killing the creature. Always.
Lazar -- same here. I get aggroed more often since becoming master than I did while working my way up. I spend most of my time sampling with my finger hovering over the burstrun hotkey.
I *think* I like the changes so far, such as they are. Doesn't bother me too much that cloning should become more difficult (in terms of having to sample higher CL critters to get decent DNA, though I do miss the ability to sample my own clones), because I'd rather see dedicated BEs than holo-BEs able to make the nicest stuff. For any profession, dedication and hard work should be rewarded with better results. Call me elitist.
However -- we still can't control the final Difficulty Level at all, as far as I can see, short of using low-level DNA in order to ensure a lower-quality creature. That's silly. Let's hope this get implemented fairly soon. The novelty value of being able to make Killer White Durnis is soon going to fade.
I second the request for some sort of dedicated DNA-sample container. I'll admit I'm a packrat -- even so, my medium house is full of BE-required products as it is (I have 8 items of furniture total, because it's either pretty furnishings or decent materials), my pack contains more in the process of collection (eggs, meats, hides, blah), and even when I drop what I can there's no way to conduct a decent sampling session without having to hit a crafting station and make some templates *just* to use up some of the samples I'm getting and create more pack space. Let's cut down on the tedium and increase the interest a little? Creating clones is fun (I'm sad that way) -- running back and forth because I can't store more than 30-40 samples isn't.
I also second the request for more varied -- and more *useful* tissues. I'd love to make tissues for my chef buddy, but there's little point, as has been mentioned by others. Chef foods are ridiculously overlooked as it is -- they need the overhaul as badly as we do. Most people I know use three kinds of food tops, and whatever else they can find to feed their pets. I'd also love to be able to comply with requests for a greater variety of tissues -- currently my response to most requests is "Sorry, I can't enhance that skill. Here's the very short list of what I *can* do. Oh, you're a wookiee? Ah, too bad, I can't do much for you. Sorry."
Resources -- add my voice to the dozens of others. Milk and mollusc are rarer than holos -- especially considering the free holo-giveaway. Maybe us BEs could be given 200 units of milk and mollusc for LifeDay instead? ![]()
Great list and nice work; I'm hoping the recent changes were just the start, but I shan't hold my breath.

"The level of the creature is based on the creature stats" This is pretty straightforward. If you make a bunch of pets with DNA sampled from the lowest creatures you can find, then slowly move to using higher level DNA you will see how the stats in the tissues effect the outcome of the pet. The CL of the creature the DNA is taken from is not directly related to the level of the clone the DNA will help make, but because a DNA sample taken from a higher level creature will have better stats it will contribute to the overall level of the clone.
If you are confused just try hitting the newby field nearest whatever city you favor. Take DNA from lots and lots of butterflies/durni/gnorts/etc., make generic templates with them and then make a creature. Make the same creature type too. You will see how the CL comes out. Do it with no experimentation and with experimentation. Also try to use the same quality of DNA, in eachtemplate...the stat total in DNA of the same quality vary very little from one to another.
I have been able to make CL8 pets with almost 1k ham and special attacks. Decent for Non-CH, up around CL 10 pets I have not gotten good results though. Either the health, action, or mind is 400pts lower then the other two pools. To solve this I just need to find some DNA offof animals that are low level but with a high attribute in what I need. They kind of fit together like a puzzle.

I realise this. Finer control than a repeated guessing game, however, is what I was talking about. I'm quite familiar with the newbie-BE areas and sampling, having spent quite some time there as a novice.
I might really love these new changes...who knows...they could be really awesome...if I could figure out what in heaven's name is going on. I mean...I don't have the ability to take higher level samples at all with just DNA 2...yet I have every other box maxed to 4. Now if I want to make a decent animal I've got to go out and start sampling from the biggest creature I can find...goodie...so now I have to go to Lok or Endor if I want DNA, because all of the creatures I find on Corellia suck pretty much and even if I do see a big creature it's not like I'll be able to sample from it, because my DNA skills suck...and suck bad. So basically I can't even fill an easy order.
another thing that riles me...Every creature may as well be a shell and we are stuffing them right now. I made a Brackaset at 1k of HAM, 110-130DMG...then I made a Durni at 1k of HAM, 110-130 DMG AND special attacks...but of course, no resists and no armor for either because my DNA sucks. Why no resists? Why start from GROUND up? You can make a Durni with 100% Heat resists and 8k of HAM?!? The heck? Give us some kind of normal shell for the animals to fall into. Say with Druni's you start out with low DMG and its max isn't all that higher...same with HAM. Then with Rancors you start them out with say 5-8k of HAM and have experiments bring it up or something...there should be a REAL base type of each animal instead of EVER SINGLE ANIMAL being the exact same thing.
I enjoy changing colors and adding special abilities...but you know, I'd like to know how in the world that special ability got there in the first place...same with those resist attributes...and DMG...etc. How in the world am I getting these bizzare results? Give me some basic info instead of giving a thumbs up sign and saying "go have fun." I'm so freaking confused with BE right now that my head hurts...well...at least I make statues yeah...statues...good times...![]()
Yeah, those are basically "shells". You are a genetic engineer after all, why can'tyou make a durni that can open a 32oz sized can of whoopass? Forget what you knew, things are different now. And as for making low-level critters that suck, why not head to Naboo and sample crystal snakes for thier special ability of strong poison?
Remember that level is not paramount, you can make a usefull creature still, just notthe highest level ones. Most folks are NOT Master CH, they can't use level 65 pets. So they want one with good ham and special attacks. Resists can be found in lots of places, Tatooine has some cool bugs that have great kinetic resists. You have to think of the whole **edit** world of possibilities out there now, you almost litteraly can make anything.
I remember one of the devs saying that you can master the branch of Cloning and have level 1 Sampling, so you will be able to make any pet type but with low level stats. Or master the Sampling branch and have Cloning at level 1 and be able to make high level stuff, but only with only a few skins to choose from. Kinda like a crafter that has to choose schematics or experimentation to max the stats of the schematics that he/she does have.
Don't get mad because you are limited in some way, because of the diversity of animals out there we have a lot of things we can use to make the best animals and any level. A friend of minewanted a level 30 pet for a for a companion to work withanother animal the she tamed herself. I made her one with like 8K ham, strong poison, knockdown, kinetic resist was around 30...not great but very decent. She wanted this in the Durni body bacause she liked the animations it has when it does it's tricks.
There is something for everybody man, we have one of the best(and misunderstood) crafting professions Period, in my opinion. We just have to explore to find critters with stats and abilities we want our pets to have.

Uhm. Was Droid Engineer taken into consideration?
If this is definitely true, then it seems that SOE might have done this purposely to keep "pet" HAM down.
There's been several mentions of creature decay and the need for more useful items to create.
Assuming they introduce decay we could;
1) Affect the longevity of the creature genetically, perhaps extending their lifespan beyond that of their wild counterparts.
2) Produce chemicals that would prolong the life of the creature, this would be a unique line to the BE and I suspect would could be a genuine earner.
On a similar note concerning growth rates to maturity, mine seem to take 10 days;
1) Some kind of facility (cloning chamber?) or chemical that would accelerate the process. If a cloning chamber type structure then it could double as storage and vendor perhaps. Seems resonable that this process would increase the tissue stress and thus reduce longevity though.
2) A chemical to retard growth, perhaps used in conjunction with the cloning chamber. Dunno if this is true across the board but my creatures are starting at a low level, it would be handy to be able to restrict the final CL on the creature and thereby tailor creatures to the customers IE Non CH level limits.
Cloning chambers; As a BE I feel we should have some benefits there, not sure what? Perhaps a reduction in fee from the usual 1k? The abililty to build and run our own, perhaps changing some of the parameters?
I'll crawl back under my rock now....
"This is currently our biggest issue. The clones we can make for CH's are not desirable compared to other pets at any given cert level, compared to what's available in the wild. For non-CH's, our best pets under cl 15 can't compare to rock beetles, mountain krevol, or cowardly gurreck. Now with mounts being added, we will be missing out on the full potential of the mount market. There are reported to be non-ch versions of all the mounts spawning in the wild. BE's can only make two for non-CH's. We feel getting the cloning changes completed and pushed live should be the top priority for BE fixes. "
That is actually debatable.
No, I haven't much participated on board discussions. I'm a simple bio engineer on Dantooine who basically keeps to herself with the class because no one (even other BEs) seem to understand the process I use to craft a creature.
Currently, I am working on finding a good formula for level 8 - 15 creatures with decent HAM, resists and damage. Each creature takes me about 2 hours to craft due to the balancing process I use vs. how many DNA samples I have.
Right now, I use piket, piket plains walker, and piket longhorn female DNA samples, at DNA Sampling I (though I've been doing this the whole time). Most of my samples are Below Average to Average, about fifty fifty of each. Pikets are my creature of choice because they are non-agressive, do not death blow, and have pretty nice DNA for the amount of danger I've put myself in.
Currently, most of my pets are between 12 and 14, with at least 5k HAM (but i'm currently averaging closer to 6k HAM), 15 - 20 to at least have the resists, one or two special attacks, 2.2 average attack speed (some have been higher), with about 150 average damage, though I have had up to 210. Occassionally, if I kill the agression profile just right, I get a level 9 or 10 with these stats. Granted, typically this only works on the novice bio engineer level creatures, but I'm working on perfecting it for other creature types such as Kwi (successful 6K ham 16 creature so far) and Cu Pa for those who want a more intimidating looking creature. I'm waiting for a few of these creatures to mature to see if non-ch can use them.
The kind of pets that beat rock beetles and cowardly gurreks are possible right now, you just really need to take a lot of time balancing your Generic DNA templates to get it to work. Sometimes I do have to put in a really low agression profile to get it, but I've gotten it down to at least level 12, and I am working on making below level 10s like this as well.
Just my $0.02 credits on that issue.

Hi,
I like your list - in additon to that list i would like to see:
Added info to the DNA sample: Creature level, Ferocity, Creature Size, attack speed, damage.
i want to be able to:
Make creatures that are better quality than what can be found in the wild.
Make Creatures that are both desireable on the open market and Unique to my profession.
Make Creatures that are unique in coloring and markings to my profession.
Have crafting experementation that is reliable and is somewhat on par with other professions crafting experementation benefits.
Be able to make everything that i have a draft schematic for (milk is non existant, dont say rare cause it is impossible to obtain) therefore i cannot make some of my items. there are other examples of impossible to find ingredients that BE's need.
Have fun with this class, I dont want it to be easy, but it needs to be fun and rewarding, in fact i enjoy a good challenge. Currently the BE class is not too fun, a huge grind (didnt devs say they wanted to avoid xp grinds like in other online games) and the finished products are not too marketable due to costs, impossible to find ingredients and the fact that there is competition with natural versions of creatures.
For one thing, milk does exist. Im on Tempest and a vendor in Eden sells some.
Second, if we could make creatures that were all stronger than in the wild, every one would be a be because we make the best creatures. The creatures should be different from other creatures that can be tamed, and the creatures that we can makeshould havethe opportunity to be good depending on the DNA samples that you use.
