I like the blood samples idea. There are lots of good ideas in this thread for long-term storage ofitems. The main problem, I think, is how quickly our backpacks fill up with DNA while we are out sampling. This solution seems to have a good Cost/Benefit ratio. It shouldn't cost a lot, from the database and programming side. And thebig benefit is that our backpacks would not fill up so quickly when we are out sampling.

Well, I don't know if it's susoped to count or not, I just put about 25 of my good additive resources inthe hopper and they no longer count towards my house

I just picked up several new crafting stations and will post what I find with them.

One of my guildmates just found out an interesting fact.
I hardly ever do any crafting away from the station...very seldom use the droid at all. I've seen the hopper option show up, but never used it. It's always just been a pain when the window is too high and insted of selecting crafting you get the hopper window.
Well, it seems that anything put in the hopper (up to 100 items) does NOT count towards the items in the house.
I haven't tried it yet, but this will help a LOT with storage issues...now to find a lot of different crafting stations and tools

According to a friend of mine, items in a Personal Crafting station are "supposed" to count towards items in your house but theres a bug that (and this may only apply to old pre-patch 1 crafting stations) items in the hopper don't count towards the item limit in your house. Can anyone else confirm/deny this?

The last time I tried this, items in my station hopper count against items in my house. When I get home I'll try puting items in the hopper and see what happens.

My humble opinion -
It would seem that this idea:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=bio-engineer&message.id=15611&highlight=storage#M15611
looks to be the easier to implement using existing code, and could meet BE storage needs -
1) Sample target - use 'sampling' code to determine BE sampling level and probability of success
2) If successful - use 'harvest' code to creat container icon in user's inventory: unlike regular organic 'containers' this one only displays how many items are stored (1-5?) and a discription of the item. Stats are not displayed. This container icon is a just a counter and object identifier.
3) When the BE is ready to get the DNA from the 'container', he/she uses the radial menu option "Get item" - in this part the BE is actually using the portion of the 'sampling' code that produces the DNA, stats and all, in the BE's inventory. In essence the BE is sampling the container but with 100% success everytime.
I guess one could argue about how can there be different DNA qualities from the same container but the discussion is about DNA storage.

A problem for me with this method is that I need to know the DNA stats before I use it. Such as trying to make a high HAM high level pet is not possible if you just mix random types of DNA; I'd have to unpack all of them anyway and would be back at square one.

Here is my solution. Ever see the movie Jurrassic park? That shaving cream can gave me this idea. We currently have cargo pockets and such that store items up to 20 of them. However, the contents of those pockets and satchels go against our total inventory storage. In a "Dna Storage Device" make them the same way, ONLY dont let the capacity go against our total inventory space. Make them re useable and re nameable. Have them hold perhaps 20 dna samples each, so we may better organize which samples are from what, however they display.
Make them craftable by artisans and the like, so it has a positive effect on the economy.
Thank you.

I personally like the full BE lab approach. It would have to be placed by aMBE and used only by said MBE and his buddies. Inside it would be a special DNA storage freezer/locker/whatever that would list all samples with sorting enabled.

On top of that, I would also enjoy having an option to change the label of the samples to list the type of creature it came from (like you can have OQ or another stat displayed on organics).
