Thread: Getting to know you and your profession!
And the entertainer hate begins... took a lot longer than usual for someone to troll on in though. I guess that's a good sign...

Well if that means fixing our Ent Healing, great. Bring it on. No complaints from us really. I don't like people having a reason to hate us and I don't like Dancers hating our Ent Healing: the buffing bugs, lack of interface, lack of control, lack of reward. *shrug* We are really in a lose/lose situation and the bots are just a symptom. I'd love to see us being able to provide a fun and reliable service for the non-Ent community that people would like to have and would pay us for... so if Crisby wants to give us support on defining our role in this game and fixing Ent Healing, great! We'll take support any where we can get it.

Welcome Tiggs,
Its extremely nice to see you post here in our forum. I'll get right to it...
1- We got nerfed hardcore almost a year ago in preperation for the 3 stage revamp and nothing else was done with said revamp. This left us severely gimped on a grand scale. We need to be UN-nerfed until the combat revamp is "actually" going to happen. It's the only fair thing to do. This single situation is the root cause for MUCH of the pent up frustration/anger expressed on these boards. For starters...let MCH's have 120 cl out at a time.
2- Our profession needs clarity. Either we are a combat class or a support class, not both. If we are both then we lose out on both ends and thats not fair (as has been quite evident these past 11 months). We take more skillpoints then most other elite combat profs but we arent even a fraction as useful in battle as they are. Why is that? this needs to be fixed badly.
3- Creature development. This is a very important one to me personaly. I want my creature to advance with me in skills and fighting ability, even if its slowly. When i pull out my gurreck that ive had fighting by my side for well over a year now i want him to be tougher then a brand new gurreck that just spawned. Even if its only a marginal difference. These advancements could be kinda random even so each pet was different over time.
4- Pet Appearance. Let Image Designers have the ability to permenantly modify our pets appearance in cool ways. Let armorsmiths make degradable battle armor that can be equiped to help my pets fight (not to mention look really cool). Release some rare creature textures so that there are special pets that can be found in the wild that actually look different. Let tailors make pet wearables for pets so my bantha can store items or act as a vendor to a merchant, etc. Not to mention all the cool potential for purely cosmetic pet wearables. leashes, spiked collars, bracers, different saddles, etc.
5- Mounts. Fantastic idea that was an amazing addition to SWG... until they were rendered completely useless like a month later when the vehicles were released. I think that mounts could stay as they are for non-ch's and instead give CH's some new skills as we climb thru the CH tree to transform our lunking obsolete mounts into speedy battle companions. These skills would allow CH's to travel much faster & fight much better on mounts. At the very least MCH's should be able to use any attack they wish while mounted.
6- Pet Storage. We desperately need the ability to drop our pets in either our house, bank, a droid, or a new creature farm type structure. We need more storage! All other combat profs can carry or store any amount of their "weapons" in any way they see fit. especially via lot swaps and such. CH's on the other hand are VERY restricted in storage, which is very odd considering our creatures arent anywhere near as powerful as the majority of weapons in game at the moment. And completely reemove the delay in calling and storing pets. It's simply not needed.
4- Creature Handler Vs. Bio-Engineer. Very frustrating this one. We cant even hope to compete with the frankenstein creations that the BE's are making, which is very sad. A wild pet should always be considerably tougher then a BE pet. Why? because its HARD getting a real wild pet and it takes time. BE pets can be snapped together in a few minutes with very little work involved. This is an insult to all CH's.
Dang!!! You were on a roll until you got to #4!!!! You show a real lack of understanding about the BE process--but hey, don't worry--you don't need to understand the process, all you need to do is go out and support your local BE by buying their pets and products!!!!...thank you, please come again!!!
Phew! Okay ill stop now. But thank you for starting the thread tiggs. Its really appeciated.

I'm very sad to hear after JTL though.
What I'm worried about is this -- we can't deny that when AFK goes there will be a void us live people will have to fill. We will be depending on either bringing back old entertainers and retaining them this time, or recruiting completely new ones.
I played EQ through several expansion releases -- I know how people who've quit get curious and come back to check things out (did it myself once), and how the advertising for a new expansion makes people come to check out a game they hadn't before.
We're gonna need those people who are about to come in for JTL to rebuild. Not just to rebuild the ranks of entertainers, but to be the next generation of players that doesn't resent the absence of buffbots simply because they never experienced them in game, and to rebuild the *respect* that is what we're lacking.
I know dev time is valuable. I know CSR time is short. But if it's at all possible to help us now, when we need it most.. even if it's just policy statements and CSRs to answer our reports of buffbots and **back up the statements with warnings/bannings/suspensions** to go along with the promise to clear up the rest of AFK with the macro change...
That would be invaluable to us. Doing this before the return/new char influx from JTL would save us, even now. Waiting...at the best would be more painful for everyone involved when it does happen. At the worst... /shrug
- Drift. Many of the dances have you wandering all over the dance floor as flourishes are performed. From what I have been able to figure out the reason for this is that when the flourish is initiated, it stops the base dance, does the flourish and then resumes the base dance from the beginning at your new starting position. Musicians don't have this problem. When a flourish is initiated, the base song continues to its normal loop point and then the flourish is performed.
- Related to the above, Musicians can "stack" thier flourishes. I'm not sure how deep, but if they go /flo1 ; /flo2 ; /flo 3, then all three flourishes execut in turn. If a Dancer does this though, the action is reduced for 3 flourishes, but only the first flourish is displayed. It can make it difficult to choreograph out a complex routine, especially when drift is involved.
- Again, related to the first bullet point, some of the advanced dances (exoctic primarily), the flourish animation overlays the base dance but the base dance is not interupped, so when the flourish comes to an end, the hapless dancer is whiped around to where the base dance currently is. This does not contradict bullet point one, but does show an inconsistancy in how the dance flourishes are implemented I think.
- Entertainment delay timer. We know that the delay was to destroy an exploit in the buffing routines. However a more elegent way has already been put into place in that there is now a minimum listen and watch timer. Several very patient, dedicated, and talented people have worked the math out for the minimum time needed to apply a buff by following rules. Why not just extend the minimum time to watch timer to agree with that number ( it's not much longer than what's in place) and remove the entertainment start delay timer. Many of us are very dedicated to the entertainment profession in creating visually and auditorily pleasing if not stunning routines, and to have to stand around for 15 seconds to change an instrument, or to stopdancing to correct for a drift puts a huge monkey wrench in the routines and general entertainment immersion. Granted this last is a picky, but it's something to be put on the table to be looked at.
I think that about covers my contribution. Thank you Tiggs for taking the time to ask and to read our volumenous replies. ![]()
