Since I am the new kid on the block I would like to take a little survey to see what you feel is the most pressing issue with your profession right now. Wait! Don't post just yet, seriously think about this for a moment and post what "you" feel is important, not what you think the overall class feels is important. (Flamers, trolls need not reply). Please do not link me to another thread, I want it in "your" words.
First of all, I am highly gratified to see a post by a developer on this branch of the forums. I have not read everyone else's replies, but in order to give you what I feel is appropriate feedback, I would rather not read them until I have posted. I would like to tell you about myself for just a quick moment. I have been a CH for a solid year, Master CH since early December '03.
In my mind, I truly do not believe that anyone is belligerent at heart, nor am I going to be in this reply. My intent is to provide you with the information you feel is constructive feedback that will help you ascertain our profession.
I have mastered several combat class professions on other servers, and I know that all combat classes have their quirks. In that sense -- in that regard -- I do realize the developers have to have a lot on their plate at this point. But, as with any MMORPG, I also realize that SWG is always, and will always remain-- a work in progress.
With that, I think what is most important to me forthe profession of Creature Handler overall is that it becomes, as Vertexon put it in one of his most well-known threads to try and help us -- becomes a 'competitive profession' once again.
When I first started playing this game over a year ago, as soon as I saw popular, canon SW creatures like Rancors being tamed, I knew that's what I wanted to do. For me, it was a no brainer. I embraced the profession with a passion.CreatureHandleris and will always be a very dynamic profession where the possibilities of pet ownership is concerned, using your virtual pets in the game as battleground companions, and even growing close to them as friends.Only speaking for myself, they(the pets)create a profound attachment to the profession for me, personally.
My first PvP battle following the revamp (about 2 months after), you might imagine my shock when people in the game were less than nice about getting my pet out of their way, and when I sent the pet into battle, again my shock at a fully grown rancor getting incapped by a Master Heavy Swordsman/Combat Medic in less than 5 seconds, before I could even fire a shot with my rifle.
My pets are far more valuable to me than that, some of them one-of-a-kind, so I no longer risk their safety in PvP, unless they are easily replaceable.
I have seen to this day, special high-level (over level 50) pets people have tamed prior to the December revamp that are now 'extinct'. I do not know what it would take on your end to recode the game for such a change in the future, but some of these rare pets look very appealing to me, and I would love to take on the quest of finding one if they existed yet again as tamable babies (included but not limited to the Frenzied Graul, Merek King Harvester, Merek Queen Harvester, Kliknik Queen, etc). Long before I discovered these forums, or swgcreatures.com, I used to just drive around as a new Master CH, trying to find new pets to tame. I did things the hard way -- tapping lairs and seeing if babies existed. In my searches I found many great mid-to-high levelanimals (particularly on Endor) I would personally love to see tamable.
So, with the MCH revamp of December, I began to notice some serious changes within my own community. Pet stims have become harder to find, as well as pet supplies. Bio-Engineered pets are no longer abundant on vendors, they have to be custom-ordered if you have something special in mind. I could only surmise that people left the profession due to disappointment in the changes. However, I am also aware that today, more and more people who came into the game after the December CH revamp are becoming CH's, so as a veteran of the profession, I feel compelled to help them and educate them.
I don't think that CH isa bad profession, far from it. If it was truly that bad, I would find another profession to master. Why do I keep it? Because I love it that much. There is definitely room for improvement, but it is not a 'bad' profession in the grand scheme of things. Again, I love the profession, and would never give it up for the above-reasons.
There are no promises being made that you will see immediate changes implemented. This is simply to gauge what you feel is important so that I can discuss this further with the team. I am going through a few professions at a time so if you don't see this post in another forum you participate in, do not worry. I will get to the other forums in due time
Thanks in advance for taking the time out to do this.

Hi Tiggs,
1.) Not enough storage, we need either more datapad room or a place to store pets when not in use, we're the only combat profession limited in this way.
2.) Bugs, pets still runaway, teleport, restore all of these issues will get you killed really quick and all have been around for a long time.
3.) Need more variety, at the moment there are very few useful wild pets to tame.

- Broken dances. We have a beautiful profession, but since our most beautiful dances are broken (lyrical and formal), we can never actually use them in performances.
- Lack of inclusion in new content. IE, the FS quests. There are none for entertainers. We were told we wouldn't have to ruin our template in order to participate in the new Jedi experiences. There are also no viable reasons for any entertainer to pursue any FS skills. The only one we have is wound healing, which is completely unnecessary. Battle Fatigue, or, more preferably, better buffing, would have been a much better alternative. Despite what it appears the devs believe, we entertainers are a diverse bunch who like to do things and participate in content that doesn't involve merely "chatting."
- The inability to use our skills on ourselves. We should be able to buff ourselves. This would also have the effect of having more people pick up entertainer, thereby increasing our availability...availability being a big excuse people use for buffbotting.
- Lack of communication from developers. You, Tiggs, are the absolute first red name I have seen in the dancer forum since I resubscribed in February. And, I'm an avid reader/poster to these forums. That makes us feel very forgotten and not cared about.
- No developer statement about what we are supposed to be. Are we healers? Are we not healers? How do we direct our comments and suggestions? Are our comments and suggestions actually being seen?
And, now, for what I consider to be the most pressing issue: AFK, and buffbots. If only one thing can be done to help our profession in the next year, this is what I would want to see fixed. AFK, in general, has ruined our Cantinas, made them miserable places to be. I remember so fondly what it was like at launch and how much fun it was before AFK took over (the hologrind, etc, being catalysts.) The atmosphere is terrible. And, this is supposed to be our "playground," and it's been systematically taken away from us. Buffbots have ruined most entertainers' economic viability. Except for a very small population of ethical gameplayer's and RP'ers, most people make a beeline for a buffbot, no matter how many live entertainers are present. It's virtually impossible to compete. We were given buffing as our bread and butter, as our means to join the economic interdependency within SWG, and that has been ruined by afk and buffbots. We *want* to be included in the overall dynamic, just like every other profession.
Also, the afk mentality has been the driving force behind the disrespect of live entertainers. We no longer have a use or a function, as afk "NPC's" are in abundance. No other profession can be completely afk macro'ed from start to finish. Our elite professions are looked upon as meaningless when any old bot can do them. Many of us have been relegated to entertainer ghettos or guilds because that is the only place where we can find any support or respect. People question why we are entertainers and regularly consider us to be useless when any old bot can do what we do completely afk. This is completely gamebreaking for us. When I talk to former entertainers, the #1 reason I'm given for why they have a) stopped going into Cantinas, b) dropped their professions or c) left the game entirely, it is because of afk and buffbots. The afk is driving out the very people this "experiment in gameplay" is supposed to attract. AFK is causing this "experiment" to fail. For the sake of attracting and retaining the very players to this profession that I believe SOE wants to attract, AFK must be ended as soon as humanly possible. Or we will be left a desolated, unrepairable, failed class. I truly love this game and don't want to see that happen. But, I too, got fed up. I cancelled my account. I resubscribed 3 weeks later *only* because TH announced the recursive macro was ending.
The reality is, you don't have to end the recursive macro. All they need to do is come out and say that afk and buffbotting is against the EULA, and enforce it. Or, they could implement a function where you have to do something that is not afk macro'able in order to buff. Anything. Something. But, it has to be done before it gets any worse.
